On the honda civic sport, i just got. It has electronic lumbar support as standard(which i deffo need) and the head rests tilt forward which is awesome.
The missus don’t like them but she ain’t the one with the bad back and neck problems and they really helps me.
Would i pay extra for seats over the standard Ap I’d have to say no, i do have a plug in one but it’s to hard to sit on and drive. so i just use it when at home.
July 2, 2020 at 4:50 pm in reply to: why does advance payment change so much when car prices don't change #117442True same at southhampton, i rememeber seeing a huge ship arrive and a good few got dropped off most where french cars then others got loaded. Mainly range rovers and minis if i rememeber. Was a while ago.
Some will be hire cars as well as fleet cars. Is a place off the m180 at sunny scunny where they dropped to be picked up as well by car transporters .. The car industry is huge and was a documentry about ships i saw and one was a new mega car ship more like a new car taxi around the world.. Off it will go to amercica then mexico for a pickup..drop off.. crazy really.. shows us the global world we live in..
By Mb agreeing to your application any extras opted for will be covered as they own the car.. With the agreement Mb has with rsa not us the actual leaser.
If you damage the interior it will not be covered or ones own possessions left in the car are not covered either. any addons after signing the pin that not authorised by MB and recoreded with rsa will not be covered..
it’s a 3 party agreement not just between us and rsa or mb and we not privy to all the agreement MB has with rsa.. thats my understanding of the contract and the law..
My last 2 cars have been from vertu vw and now vertu honda had no problems with the service at all from them and i’d deffo recomend them.. It’s always best to ring or just pop in to make an appointment that way they can help you fully, when looking a your next car.
Covids changed alot the way they work though so no coffee’s offered. 🙁
I have just popped in when the keys needed new batterys or the wipers was damaged just before xmas and they been great. Clean the car inside and out everytime. what more do you need..
Glad to here you had a great experience and won’t be long till you in the Q2 black edition.
July 2, 2020 at 4:09 pm in reply to: why does advance payment change so much when car prices don't change #117415Had a chat with the manager at honda only a little bit ago about the scheme as the car had risen £600 in Ap and he was for the same money you would not get such a great deal considering all things that are included..
Even honda’s own deals would cost more and they was offering 0% at that time as well..
I looked around and i could not get anywhere near on the same car..
What i never see, i do not miss and i will never spend no more than £25 a month towards the ap and i can find a car that’s suitable, no car is perfect and yes sometimes i don’t get all the options i’d like. but still I’m very happy user and appreicate the scheme.
Ap’s are rising but also honda did raise the price of the car i got recently as well when they did the refresh my20
The scheme might not be for everyone, especilly if you under 25 or work away from home and your partner is claimant or you want a car over the cap set to stop the scheme being abused. But there is no point complaining about what it offers. complain to the dwp that the allowance is not keeping up with prices of new cars and thus the choice gets more and more limited every year..
I never add any extras only whats included in the Ap as standard and if a car don’t have what i need as standard then it’s off the list.
Usually my final list is down to 2 for test drives, as for me there is no point test driving a Bmw for example when I know adaptive cruise control is part of a driving pack at a grand. Regardless of if i like the car or not as unless you plan to buy the car after 3 years it’s a waste of my limited funds and you will never see anything back for it.. Unless you plan to buy it at the end of the 3 years that is. Same can be said for very high Ap on cars, but then thats your choice to do that if you can and want to thats totally up to you, but for me the most i will pay is £25 a month towards the Ap. It’s realistically how much i can afford and justify.
I have had a few cars that where contenders rise to much over my time on the scheme and i could not justify them anymore so they was off the list come time to order.
The last car i got last week I ordered in jan after deducting the gcb of £600 and £200 DC & a free tank of juice it was slighty under my max Ap over the 3 year term figures at £799 on a £1599 ap at the time of ordering. but it still was the most AP i have paid overall over the 3 other cars i had on the scheme.
If it was not for the gcb rise that car would be unaffordable for me, under my limitaions. Which is all i judge the situation on not others needs and desires. This is my logial view point and not intended to upset anyone.
Since test driving the lastest car, it had risen £600 in Ap and if i didn’t get the £200 DC i would of had to choose a different car as i cannot afford anymore out of my pockect and i really did want that specfic car.
When you lease a car the terms on extras are a bit different but with MB thats not the case. The terms are pretty clear and the increase in GCB from £250 to £600 is a great help.
Is the scheme perfect no not for everyone but it is what it is and the terms are clearly setout. we could mention that also the actual benefit is not rising at the same rate as the price of new cars are and that also limits choice off whats actually available in exchange for your allowance from hmrc.
I get the rises I do and i did kinda saw this coming. as increased tech cost more so prices go up, 2 engines cost more than one, more range costs more also. But also due to the pandemic there’s a change of view towards the enviroment and cars that imo is going to make us get to 2035 quicker and thus making projected car values fall off a cliff sooner than most thought. Point is there is so many factors to consider and what will be the case in 3 years.. if i told you in 2017 that you’d be on lockdown in your own home most would laugh at say thats craxy but it happened, everyone can agree on that.. So the future is unknown and is a risk. same with car prices.. Most of us order when we can in the quarter we can and in that there gonna be winners and losers, but there are options you could ask for help to get an automatic etc or keep you current car for longer or make compromises on the things you can do without.. for me that within my limitations of no more than £25 per month toward the ap and no added extras ever..
The people on the phones at MB don’t know what the people up stairs are doing until it filters down to them. How would they know what prices are before they told, so it’s not there fault imo. I have always found them helpful and even with the lastest car i got, the hack on honda caused major issues and another delay in picking it up but it was sorted and got a call from Mb to say it had been and I’m Glad for that.
Could i afford to drive or buy the car i do not being on the scheme, i highly doubt it.. Plus the security it gives me and that piece of mind are a big part as well.. Choice will get less and less but as i said thats alot to do with other factors as well. the main one being the actual allowance amount dwp give towards a car the more and more we will have to pay the difference..
It is what it is and we all under a cap for bhp in some way.. It is just the way insurance is you may have 3 years NCD but insurance until you 25 is higher and some companies won’t employ you driving until you over 25. simply for cheaper insurance costs, which increases there margins..
It’s been that way since i started driving back in 1990, 30 years now and i don’t see it changing. My first car was worth zero really and insurance was over a grand a year, third party only not even fire and theft..
It was a 1.6l honda accord less than 100 bhp but was pretty quick for the day..
They Mb would then need to have that work checked and verified to then inform the insurance that a mod had been done and had been done legally to cover themselves for the liabilty against them as they own the car and thus will not give permission..
One couuld have remapping done to get more bhp than standard. A lounder exhaust etc etc..
Point is it’s a lease car and it’s under their terms not ours.. if i agree with you or don’t matter 1 bit.
The important thing is it’s those terms that matter and i have heard of car ppl who bought cars on hp who modded them did youtube vids on them, having the finance agreement terminated and having to pay for the car outright or it will be repo’d. why because they don’t own it till it’s all paid off..
I do get what you say i do, in you case it’s only speakers and they not gonna effect the driving of the car one bit but if they agree to one thing then they discriminate.. So they blanket say no to mods..
I guess because you could get darker tints that are not legal and if the car comes from the factory with the privacy glass like mein did then they know they legal and your fully roadworthy and covered as for the insurance it will deffo cause problems if any accident was to happen as the car has been modified and if you tint the fronts you’ll find you might get stopped by the police alot to check the light level and there legal.
So i’m not surprised at all..
here’s my car came as standard and my daughter love’s being in the back now as she has privacy and feels like celeb.
July 1, 2020 at 7:53 pm in reply to: why does advance payment change so much when car prices don't change #117138It’s many things, The projected final value after 3 years is what determines the Ap. I’m sure there is a body that sets car values on the used market there always gonna be winners and losers due to new models coming out and trends etc.
Also the allowance we get rises behind the actual rate of inflation and we starting to see that take effect more and more as cars get more and more tech and rise in price and some now have 2 engines or expensive batteries, it’s gonna bite more and more and less and less cars will be on the scheme that are bigger and more expensive. which means higher AP’s as the difference between the two grows. The value of the car at the start and the amount paid off from the full allowance over the 3 years. deducting the 3 year value. The deficit grows year on year..
Would i say it’s a rip off i dunno…
But i will say most of us don’t use the full 20k a year that they value the ap on so they making a bit there. my recent car got handed back last week, had done just under 40k in the 3 years and therefore is worth more than if it had just under 60k but is that really the case when it comes to buying it, whoever does they MB have a lot of cars to sell after the lease and you never know as we head toward more zero emissions certain cars value will drop off a cliff sooner rather than later imo as maybe you cannot drive into any town or city in one unless you pay an extortionate amount..
like in london the congesttion charge is a joke and it been increased to £15 a day but what is intresting is that the resident exemption from 1st of august will not apply to discourage car ownership in london.
were as in Paris you pay just over 3 euros p+p to get a sticker that last for however long it’s legible for.. So the car is seen as a cash cow in the uk and we part of that and i don’t see it getting any better for us anytime soon..
I have one i use at home that heats and massages and it has hard points, where the massage bits are.
i deffo could’nt use that for driving, not with my back pain.. Plus i dunno If my new car has 12v socket it has pletty of usb and a hdmi port.. but deffo an option thats for sure..
We’ll probably head for the Netherlands @rox then into Germany for a few days. There’s an unrestricted stretch of autobahn just across the border, close to where we used to live. It’s usually quiet so a good place to see what the car can do. We’re hoping to go in September but will have to see what the rules are by then. Hopefully next year we can head for somewhere further afield. We don’t bother with deals as such because we tend to go to places that most people haven’t heard of, normally Airbnb or Hotels.com come up with something. Hope you get to Disney.
I like Breda, Such alovely place, Used to go there alot mainly camping before i had kids, Went back last summer for a sort of stag weekend, a blast from the past with my 3 younger bro’s. I really do like the dutch ppl and life over there.. Thats my one regret in life. That i didn’t move over there.
Yeah the autobahn sounds good, My new cars more suited to the country roads due to the cvt and only does 117 mph i think and many years ago i drove with a friend to martin in slovakia all the way threw germany and back in a 1.3 escort estate, scary stuff..
They don’t include adaptive cruise either, I had a golf till last week, it came with the winter packas it was a match edition but the seats are hard and become more and more unbarable the longer you sit in them after 30 mins all you thinking is how hard the seat is. I have a bad back as well, but to get different seats you need to get the highest model or pay for them and on some i guess the winter packs not included it’s extra..
This time i decided heated seats was not so important, i can buy a heated plugin cover i guess if it really is a problem.. For the extra money they want.. Or i’ll just have to wear my body warmer more.. More important to me is the adaptaive cruise and the comfort of the seat than it having to be heated i guess. least the car i did get has dual climate control where on the golf in was single, so i can jack up the heat my side..
If it is heated seats you want then maybe the corrolla i’m sure in some trims it has them and in the rear seats as well. i cannot rememebr which..
If you really set on a certain car then maybe you can come to aggrement with the dealer for it to be added at a reduced rate or you not intrested and find something else in is included in as standard.
sometimes hard choices have to be make and i have kicked loads of cars off the list as acc is not included and they want a way to much for it as part of some pack..
July 1, 2020 at 2:03 pm in reply to: Base model high end or top of the range regular car, which would you choose? #117010@Tharg it’s one of the reasons i went for the Civic sport as it has everything i really need as standard and you cannot add anything except for a few things which mainly done at the dealers.
Seats are the same so I have seen from my many searches, adaptive cruise is available on the xcellence /& lux range. i think the new leon fr does have it now.
Bmw, mercedes, volvo, those brands have only acc for example as part of a driving pack. at a grand and over.
with Vw it’s included but other stuff especially on the t-roc and golf is added extras which is crazy imo.. but hey ho I had a vw golf 7 and mirror link / andriod auto etc you gotta pay, it’s on the car but you need a dealer code which is annoying. least everthing thats on the honda is useable and no messages pops up this is not available contact your dealer.. So happy with the civic so far how it drives handles and sounds..
Some good news but not for me he he… As i picked up my new car last week that was ordered back in Jan.
It’s gone down £300
Honda Civic 1.5 VTEC Turbo Sport 5dr CVT Petrol Hatchback
Advance payment now £1349 was £1649 Q2 / £1599 Q1Luckily i managed to get £200 off and a tank of fuel so i’m Only £50 down on this Quarters price. When I did the test drive It was £999 Ap and had risen £600 when i could actually order it.
Nice…Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do and make tthe descions that at the time are the best for you.. Very sorry to hear about your House and the stress it must of caused.
Soon you’ll be in the new car and hopefully Driving over Europe again. Hopefully we still going on our re-arranged disney trip that was booked for easter in august but still don’t know. where’s you planning to go first or do you find a deal somewhere nice and then go..
The R has real pipes not those fake leaf collectors and won’t be on the scheme. So sad.. In 3 years i may get one, i just got the civic sport last week. Luving it i must say..
I used to go that way on the A1 alot when i lived in north lincolnshire. Now i’ve moved more central i use the M1 alot more. My mum and 3 brothers live in central london still and a friend used to live in Thetford. he in Preston now. So used all of them at some point but not for a while though..
@zoe You can apply and they will judge you on your case and your needs etc and your cash situation you’ll have to summit all the info they want / need to them but they might say some other car is more valid for your needs at a much lower AP. I dunno if some features like an auto tailgate counts as necessary or not but more things like needing an automatic or help with adaptions or for you special curcumstances. like needing a wav.
I have never applied myself for the grant but if you planning to put it on a credit card get a 0% one if you can.
Also i just got my new car last week a honda the Ap i had to pay was £1399 but they would only accept £1000 on a card. so i had to make a bank transfer on the day of collection. I dunno if bmw are the same but best to check. hope it all works out for you
June 30, 2020 at 9:45 pm in reply to: Base model high end or top of the range regular car, which would you choose? #116788The one that suits my needs at the time best, that i can justify the AP on and to the missus.
After 3 years I’ve got no intentions of buying it. So really the less i can pay the better. With the gcb now at £600 that helps alot but prices are rising and the allowance ain’t keeping up with inflation so high spec trims in the more expensive cars are not available or certain engines are not with certain trims.
Some cars are kinda getting pretty crazy for what they are ap wise. Overall my last car cost me £750 from my pocket that’s about my limit. I see it as dead money you not gonna get back and it can be used in other places, sod paying 2 or 3 k Thats just my view not that of people who do, we all differ, I just cannot justify it.
I need adaptive cruise control, a comfortable seat and an automatic transmission and a big enough boot for 4/5 people for holidays etc
Other stuff i can compromise on, This time i went for a car again over a higher suv and power over mpg and i must say after driving down some B roads i’m pretty impressed with the ride comfort over the golf match edition i did have of the civic sport..
Those match seats are not comfortable after a little while and once i gave myself a friction burn on them trying to move a few crumb with the back of my hand of the rear seat. The missus don’t like leather or heated seats though so gotta please her as well as the kids as you do when you a parent.
I’m not sure but i think they can put it on the system before it’s removed or the manufacturer stops making a certain trim level you want. If Mb agree.. As thats what honda dealer suggested if i wanted a sport plus not just the sport version.
Also the vw guy as had a golf had put a tiguain sel on the system even though i hadn’t agreed to order one but was considering it as an option.
June 30, 2020 at 7:50 pm in reply to: Why might A/P's increase in july if we'v not be able to order #116761Great news richard happy for you, well worth the drive twice for the offer. Is nice when you can take advantage of the new Quarter coming often most cannot and you got to wait till you see the price for the Quarter you can actually order In.
I ordered my honda back in jan and picked it up last monday and it had risen £600 since i had a test drive and was able to order the car and could only get £200 off and a free tank of fuel but very happy still, is what it is..
As for the main question it varies but the dealers do not set the ap any reduction they pay to MB on your behalf who are buying the car outright for us to lease. so it really depends on the 3 year projected value and for many reason i only see values of most ice cars decreasing in residual value as we get pushed more towards zero emissions. The Low emmision offerings are poor imo so it is where we are and covid has not helped and the green solution to the future has brought forward the agenda qucker than alot thought.
also technology more of it cost more so prices go up. like the cost of smart phones now compared to before for example all has an effect on the ap. Mein while the allowance only goes up less than the real rate of inflation and this also is causing an effect plus the cap MB set.
Goodnews though you get £600 gcb instead of the £250 i got 3 years ago. So in richards case thats £1100 towards the AP. In my case £800 plus a full tank of juice.. but we are getting less and less high end cars and trim levels on the scheme or higher AP with for me makes some cars just not viable.
Went yesterday to our morrisons, Was the first time I’ve put petrol in my own car for over 9 years.
Was strange picking that green handle up was £1.057 / ltr
I forget what the diesel was.
I went to the local ford dealer once and they wanted me to drive 40miles to another dealer for a test drive.
But you wouldn’t want to fill up ya tank there? No mention of that? sometimes i wonder if independant is independant or funded by the industry to only say good things really about the industry.
Persoanlly i find the problem with most services is that the toilets are way at the back of the building and you gotta go past everything to get to them. To temp you into buying something. This is ok for the able bodied but not for us with motability issues imo.
So often i stop at silverstone on my way to & from london as it’s about halfway and just go to the bp garage as there’s a wild bean cafe there as well a toilet.
Last week I had to pop into one services for the loo and what a joke it is because of covid and in fact the measures they put in place are useless imo.
You have ppl walking towards you closer than 1m never mind 2m as the central walkway they zoned everything off with is not wide enough and it wasn’t even busy then.
Plus you need to walk into the same narrow entrance in and out of the toilets and you cannot see in always a bend for obvious reason’s.
if someones coming the other way and then you end up doing the pavement shuffle face to face with a potential spreader of the virus.
They are a vital hub though if you travelling about and need a short rest. or to kill a bit of time before you turn up way to early at dover etc for a ferry. So sometimes you gotta use them and they do vary alot.
