I've just bought a PHEV

Having had a long time to prepare for this day I had a couple of options ready. I really wanted an X1 again but only if they offered the PHEV on Motability which they haven’t.

So I’ve gone for a Skoda Superb iV. I’ve already had test drives so was really happy with the drive. I had also checked Auto Trader over the last week or so to see what was available and in stock right now. I knew if I could get a stock car I couldn’t get any options but as it’s a very high specced car to begin with, any options I did get would be mainly some more extravagant toys to play with I also knew I would be limited in colour choice.

So a quick call to Vindis in Cambridge this morning and I effectively bought the car over the phone and it should have it next week, unfortunately it’s silver which would not be my choice but the way things are at the moment I can put up with that.

It might sound like I’ve rushed into this but this decision has been planned for over three years, ever since the DWP took my award away in 2017. I can now Voluntarily Terminate my PCP, stop my insurance, stop my extended warranty payments and stop worrying about new tyres, brakes, servicing and every other thing that Motability covers us for.

This couldn’t have come at a better time for me. I haven’t mentioned on the forum that our house burnt down back in April, we have been waiting over two months for the insurance company to accept liability and allow us to start rebuilding our lovely house. They finally gave us the go ahead on Monday. For the past 9 weeks or so I have been wracked with the thought that I would have to use the money, I have saved up for my new car, to be used for  rebuilding the house. The relief I felt on Monday was huge and it was a very emotional evening that we could only share with the rest of the family from a distance.

Anyway, that’s all behind us now and I can now look forward to sub 8s acceleration again and adaptive cruise taking me all over Europe when everything opens up again.

Nice…Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do and make tthe descions that at the time are the best for you.. Very sorry to hear about your House and the stress it must of caused.

Soon you’ll be in the new car and hopefully Driving over Europe again. Hopefully we still going on our re-arranged disney trip that was booked for easter in august but still don’t know. where’s you planning to go first or do you find a deal somewhere nice and then go..

We’ll probably head for the Netherlands @rox then into Germany for a few days. There’s an unrestricted stretch of autobahn just across the border, close to where we used to live. It’s usually quiet so a good place to see what the car can do. We’re hoping to go in September but will have to see what the rules are by then. Hopefully next year we can head for somewhere further afield. We don’t bother with deals as such because we tend to go to places that most people haven’t heard of, normally Airbnb or Hotels.com come up with something.

          Hope you get to Disney.

Good choice I had a look at the superb estate such a comfortable ride and masses of room.
It was the seat hight that I could t live.

what a shocker about the house, was anybody home at the time.
glad it’s finally being re built.
so have they been renting you a place until it’s finished.

We were staying with my son initially but we’ve very kindly been given a lovely cottage by someone I only know as I buy screws and other bits from, who just happened to be walking his dog past the house at the same time as I was rescuing some possessions. Now the insurance has kicked in we can find a bigger place.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>I thought the seats would be a problem but it’s got an electric drivers seat with memory. I can raise it up quite high and slide it back to get in and out, then select another memory position for driving. Hopefully I’ll have this for three years, I’ve not had much luck with the DWP whenever I’ve had a five seat car, both times before I’ve lost my award due to Capita idiots, thankfully got it renewed with no problems last month and for four years.</p>

I like Breda, Such alovely place, Used to go there alot mainly camping before i had kids, Went back last summer for a sort of stag weekend, a blast from the past with my 3 younger bro’s. I really do like the dutch ppl and life over there.. Thats my one regret in life. That i didn’t move over there.

Yeah the autobahn sounds good, My new cars more suited to the country roads due to the cvt and only does 117 mph i think and many years ago i drove with a friend to martin in slovakia all the way threw germany and back in a 1.3 escort estate, scary stuff..

Sorry to hear about your house, but glad you’re all okay. We had a small house fire when I was a child, could have been worse but my sister, brother and me had turn the dog into a Swiss cow, tied cowbells to his collar and he woke my parents with his barking and bell ringing, but it leaves you feeling vulnerable! I’m the one who checks the escape routes on the back of doors immediately, and have escape routes in the house, sixty years later and it’s still with me, so take care.

Ah, the autobahn, lovely memories there too, BMW’s loved it! Had a 135 and on the open road made it to 125 mph, bottled it at that, that was in my driving days, now I’m Miss Daisy but not in the back seat lol!

At my age @vinnie I should be driving miss daisy too, but I can’t help putting my foot down. I had my X1 at 125 near München when I was overtaken by an AMG something or other and I mean overtaken like I was standing still.

Ha @Saintsman I had that too, but a big 7 series, gone in 2 seconds!

Sorry meant I don’t drive anymore, would love to get behind the wheel again but it’s not possible, as they say you can take the girl out of racing but not racing out of the girl, come from a line of racing and rally drivers! So hubby drives now.
