Be very interesting to at How’s many people leave scheme in next 12-18 months…I suspect enough to be issue especially as motability account for 20% of new car sales in UK

That’s one thing that surprise me in all this, that there seems to have been no pushback from the motor industry either at the government regarding the imposition of VAT and insurance or at Motability following their changes to the scheme which can only have a detrimental effect on sales going forward
April 18, 2026 at 8:58 pm #353659There will be quite a few but there are too many for whom the Scheme is the only way to a suitable car.
The more that walk away, profits for MO will reduce significantly, that reduces the donations to the Foundation which then impacts those needing grants. I wouldn’t be surprised if at some stage the grants will only be available for WAVs. Without Grants for disabled customers who can’t afford the APs that would then reduce customer numbers further.
With no further changes I can see Motability becoming a fraction of what it is now within 5 years. That said, there’s an Election due in 3 years, if the Conservatives win then PIP will become a focus of excessive cost cutting. If Reform win they’re talking about significant changes to the scheme and PIP. That will mean that by 2031 both PIP and Motability will look very different from 2027.

April 19, 2026 at 6:16 am #353670I thought Labour when they got in were going to be on the side of us registered disabled
April 19, 2026 at 6:49 am #353671No they are all looking for votes the disabled are an easy target. One of the biggest problem is the rise of these influencer encouraging and showing non disabled people to claim disability, it is us who will suffer.

April 21, 2026 at 8:14 pm #353855I left and handed my car back 2 weeks ago
Never had a cancellation before ( have had them cancel 2 on me for being mechanical lemons ) which they said went against me so charged me £250 to cancel my lease.
Told them I was happy to pay it as they can stick it where their new rules don’t shine. As they also informed me they was going to call me to put a box on my car due to having a named driver despite them living in my house.
I'm blunt and straight to the point and I make no apologies for it!
Bipolar, OCD and a multitude of other MH issues and physical disabilitiesApril 21, 2026 at 8:33 pm #353856Ive decided that unless there is a loosening of these restrictions then I will leave at end of lease so I can get the good condition bonus. If I can find the car after it goes through auction, I will buy it- otherwise I have access to storage a salary sacrifice scheme so will take that route. Motability is no longer for the masses- the government have won!!
