You could buy an all in one hifi unit with or without speakers, but IMO you can’t beat seperates and a good set of speakers.

Depends what you want and what level/range your Nad setup was, but this got what hifi award for 2024 and can buy without speakers for £269 RS, if you wanted better speakers or spend more money overall.
Whils’t your in RS pick up a TV🤣

October 3, 2025 at 2:10 pm #314920I used to work for NEAL/Ferrograph (tape recorders, HiFi etc.) back in the mid-late 70’s/early 80’s.
Spent a lot of time around some very nice HiFi in my time, lost count of the number of systems I’ve had!.
Then in 1979 I spent £500 on a Rotel RA-1312 amp and a pair of Kef 104AB speakers, my mum went mad, I was only on £40 a week!. Sound quality is excellent, no need to adjust bass/treble, still got them and in use today 🙂
In fact I was just looking on Ebay and found an RA-1312 up for sale ….. £1035!!!!I subsequently bought another 2 pairs of the 104AB’s to keep and use are spares if needed and a Rotel RC/RB 980BX pre and power amp pair, those I use in my living room with a second set of the Kef’s.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

October 4, 2025 at 6:45 pm #314968I’m not sure I’d be buying from Richer Sounds, not because their stuff is particularly bad but because I’ve had much better experience buying locally used. Ebay and the HI FI forums are much better sources than buying new. I had a Yamaha surround system with some amazing old KEF speakers that sounded quite decent and, a good few years ago, decided it was upgrade time. I managed to get hold of some Bowers & Wilkins floor standers which are an improvement on the KEFs but costs over twice as much. I then got hold of a Lynn Kolektor Pre amp which takes the TV feed through a little box I got for taking optical output and converting it, that box also has bluetooth ability. Then I found quite a meaty AMC 4 channel that could be bridged to a 2 channel with enough go to properly power the B&Ws, now everything sings and the stage is huge, even with everything in a corner. Once we get around to moving the front room around, it’ll have some proper space to it and I imagine the stage will be even wider. It’s already hysterical watching the dog react to animals from the speakers.
Have a look at this amp:
Speakers
These are lovely speakers. There’s plenty to find local to just about everyone, you just need to be careful when buying. If you can, listen to them and listen for odd responses anywhere in the sound.
Bluetooth, amplifier, speakers and change from £400.

October 5, 2025 at 5:51 am #314976Many thanks indeed I look at eBay every day my lounge is 12 feet by 12 feet so I think floor standers abit big I’m looking at bookshelf on stands ie Kef Q1 etc and maybe Denon mini system or separates in corner ? Your system must sound lovely it’s nice to listen to music to unwind and relax
October 5, 2025 at 12:10 pm #314978I bought a small ifi hi-fi set up for headphones. All from eBay of course. It is small and discrete, but very pleasing through the headphones, I suspect it could drive speakers with the right combo.

Whils’t I agree to a point, seperates will always be better, Mike is looking for a mini/micro hifi system with bookshelf speakers, he also likes shop guarantees 🙂
Then comes budget and how much of a auiophile Mike is or maybe a casual listener, even so there are some excellent mini/micro systems available at a price point.

Selection will be limited to a certain extent due to media streamers being the in thing, where as CD players are considered old fashioned these days. As @MFillingham suggests, you will likely find a bargain in your area on ebay, that performance wise were better than those today, but whilst it may be the bargain of the century, there will be no manufacturers guarantee, you like to have.
October 5, 2025 at 8:02 pm #314998I have a couple of boxes of CD’s in the loft and they must be worth, 99p in total! CD players certainly are old skool @kezo!
