I guess there are many ways to look at it, They have a big pot of money stashed away so if market conditions change the scheme is still viable and i guess they buy however many cars and wavs etc upfront for hundreds of thousands of ppl every 3 years..  i’ll soon be in my 4th car on the scheme and manafacturer prices keep rising, although the pip or dla (before it) hasn’t really kept pace with that.. So who’s fault is it, that less and less high end cars are on the scheme..

Ap’s are getting higher as that gap increases and is only going to get worse imo… the Gcb has gone up to £600 from £250 a £350 increase, so it’s not all bad from MB. Cheaper than leasing and i could not afford to buy the car i get on the scheme new.. As for the goverment well, i’d say no. simply because they see the car as a cash cow and want to end us owning private cars and driving into city centres, it would only be worse.

There’s a few cars i liked, but the dealers are not local. So for me they just not viable at all.

It’s servicing etc not buying it from a distance thats the problem for me. It just don’t fit in with my life and commitments and i know that it would add to my stress levels.. As every service or problem i’d have to travel there and back or like recently when i just popped in to change wipers before xmas or get them to put more oil in, as they put longerlife in but it don’t ever last the 20k till the service.

My golf is due it’s mot before i give it back in april and needs a software update as well. (A recall which is going to take 3 hours to update) so i’m getting a loan car. I decided not to get another vw  but i was considering buying one from further afield as deals was better and i got no issues getting it serviced at the local vw dealer at all or any other dealer if a problem happens when away etc. As it’s what best for me..

Guess it really depends, if i’m doing a long journey, i’ll fill it up, so i know i have enough to get back home as locally the fuel is cheaper than most other places i goto on a regular basis. so makes sence right.

Then the rest of the time i’ll run it till its empty sometimes till it says 0 miles then put £20 in, basically becoz around town / stop start you carrying extra fuel and my car is just faster away from a stop when it’s just me in it not the whole family. Same with a full tank.  guess thats why hot lap times get set with less fuel..

I also think modern cars having fuel injection,  a full tank of juice for pressure is not needed like i think it was with older cars seemed to get better mpg with over half a tank and never had any problems with anything fuel related or ran out of fuel.

So far on the scheme every vehicle has been a diesel, This time i going petrol, just placed my order last week.  That’ll be better around town but worse on a long journey than a diesel but again it’s driving style as well as other factors as to what works best for you and need to be taken into account.

So no way is wrong imo.

Sometimes we limited in our choices as to the engine in certain trims etc that meet your overall needs. it’s a trade off.

Absolutely first class Rox thanks, looks like i will look at the R-Line diesel. I dont need, or ever had, AWD. Unfortunately my nearest VW is smallish si i will have a look at the nearest larger salesroom so i can compare everything in one go.

No prob it was one car i was looking at of not many actually.. so had the info at hand but i decided on the honda 1.5 sport. just  this time i’d rather drive a car again than an suv and i do find the seats very comfortable in the honda but it has everything else i really require. suvs are great till it’s windy on the motorway and i do a lot of that driving as well.

Its a tough decsion so worth abit of travelling if needed but most importantly… it’s gotta meet your needs With the tig I ideally want the sel seats coz i have problems that getting worse and hard seats are not good for me any more.. The seats in my golf after 30 mins the pain starts and i don’t think i could own a match again for 3 years.

I’m not rich 1k is like a family holiday or no family hol this upcoming summer for my kids and for some like me it’s a trade off, my other 3 cars on the scheme the most ap i’ve paid is £750 and used to get £250 gcb back. This time to get what i need / want, I need to double that ap as also got to put on a private plate or i’ll lose it.. but i’ll get £600 hopefully gcb back and getting £200 off from honda helps, sometimes we gotta play the game. at £1399 ap I happy, I may grow to h8 the cvt but look a dsg has issues as well…but it didn’t bother me on the test drive (60 mph roads as well), like i thought it would and no auto car is perfect or they’d all be the same and drive the same. I cannot do manuals any more so thats always an added cost for us who need one,

Is ok if your not the drive, but if you are well it is what it is and whats right for me ain’t always for others. only you know everything all we can do is offer advice and an honest opinon

I  need to know what im getting is worth that extra cash and 2k plus is a lot for me to justify unless it was the only car that ticked my boxes and i like the drive, prob next time as ap keep going up and up for decent trims / cars.

I didn’t even test drive anything else as having the tig 4wd for a week before didn’t need to and i was actully very impressed with it.

I could of got £200 off any vw and the r-line is the one i’d have to go for over the sel coz of the looks and all the extras for not much more is crazy.

Right so we’re looking at the fwd r-line, quite liked the fabric seats now just need Mrs Brydo to be well enough to take her to the showroom and do a slide test on the sports seats. I think they will be good for her when driving as they will hold her in place but getting her out could be a problem. She is still talking about the xc40, and it will be her choice, even after the metallic paint nonsense. She isn’t interested in how much it costs as it’s me who will be paying the AP ? The motability guy is in the vw dealer tomorrow but there’s to be a bit of bad weather here tomorrow so might wait to Wednesday to have a chat with him. I phoned my local Volvo dealer and had a rant about the metallic paint additional cost and he said it was a mystery to them why this has happened but “nobody has complained about it” aye right.

Right guys the Match (stupid name sounds cheap) or the r line, the AWD or FWD ie is the extra spend worth it?

I guess it comes down how much you wanna pay.. the match is ok i guess I have a golf match right now and was looking into a tig but versions are limited in the higher spec.

says it all really sel gonna spend more on fuel depends on your mileage as well is it worth extra to get the diesel match £450 , i’d say go to vw and look at the trims as very different seats, you can see specs for them all on the vw site, might not be able to td them all but usually can sit in them even if its a used one.

I was considering one, i’m due to order my next car in a weeks time, I have decided not to get one and go a totally different route A honda civic.

The r-line has almost every option you can get plus a sporty look and ride, compared to the sel or match i guess it’s a firmer ride as suspensions are differnt, i had a match 4wd as a hire car in sicily and that was ok

deffo i needed a 4wd then but in 30 years driving in uk i’ve not really needed one and never owned a 4wd.

Match seats are just not as nice as in the sel or r-line but if over 2k is to much then a match is ok for 1k less Ap if you don’t mind it (get it in grey then plastic trim ain’t so bad, alot of suvs have it now new maxda cx30 yukky i h8 it just to chunky the plastic trim ( black is better but gets so dirty) cheapest is the 2wd 1.5 tsi dsg..£1,049 if you got the cash and if you don’t need 4wd then go for the r-line if you don’t care about looks etc and having everything and match seat ok for you, go for that in the 1.5 tsi £1,049

How much was the advance payment ?

It’s gone up again this 1/4 now £1599 for the 1.5 sport with cvt or £999 with a manual.

but i think honda is increasing the spec levels abit on the 2020. already pretty good imo, what you get for standard on the 2019 version better than on alot of cars.

Plus it’s the only version now with the 1.5l (182hp) engine.

can get the slower petrol 126 bhp or the diesel but they not for me this time.

i did also get £200 off the AP but that was not easy and now the gcb is £600 so that helps alot with the ap so is around £800 out of my pocket. i can live with that just over £20 a month extra.

Rox, a question. If you’ve got one of only three in UK spec, which presumably means it’s already built, why are they making you wait until April? That seems a bit cruel. ?

My current Lease don’t runout till april, but you can order 3 months before then.

The problem right now is production is being moved from swindon to the usa (i think) the us market is loving the civic more than the european market and honda is moving production outside the eu in 2021 (nothing to do with brexit either, just more sales and trumps maga tariffs) so it would not be certain i’d get one before april in the specs i want as it would have to be made..

The 2020 update has been out in america since late summer, I’ve seen a few vids on you tube. crazy really made in the uk but released in the usa 1st outside the eu.

                            @Winston

Thanks for the info.. I get the same with my golf as its only 2wd. if you pulling away fast and not in a straight line deffo get’s some bad wheel spin, The traction control don’t control that.. is the only time it happens though.

I’m  heavy on the throttle and late on the breaks and no cars perfect… deffo a trade off especally these days on the scheme. Often you cannot get a test drive in the exact specs you’ll get and that’s the big problem. for me the seat. The seat on my match edition is terrible for me and my list of cars is so small.. as per usual it consists of 3 cars right now to test drive but come jan and prices it could change.. especally after the test drives. Will go for some soonbut only ones that have acc as standard as adding options sometimes motability won’t allow.. but its all dead money imo.. Ap can be bad enough but at least gcb now £600 alot better than £250 it was.. Hopefully i can get a deal. but till jan prices arrive every things up in the air.

Seems for a full hybrid car it needs an auto gearbox for it to work…so we may see every car is an auto by 2030.

right now though it is how it is certain cars ppl just don’t want to buy auto’s on the used car market. More can go wrong and deffo cost more to fix as well.. Thats the great thing about the scheme after 3 years it’s not my problem..

Good luck in your search. The golf SV might be worth a look. Like you, seat, access and driving position will again be paramount in my New Year decision making, along with a big boot. I’m increasingly reliant on my hoist.

Thanks, yeah its such a big decsion and its getting harder to find the right car.. especailly if you want luxury seats and an automatic.. and acc as standard. Just popped to vw to have them change the wiper blades, first time in 9 years of being on the scheme and thats becasuse I’ve done more miles in my golf, than my first two cars on the Motability Scheme.

While i was there had a chat and don’t think the golfs even an option right now.. he didn’t even think the golf 8 be on the scheme till july at earliest if at all..

looked at t- roc but think right now tiguan is better value right now.. t cross to small, really liked the sel trim seats.. but only available in one engine the SEL TSI 4MOTION 2.0 ltr 190 bhp but 30.7 mpg or the R-LINE TECH TDi nicer trim on outside but seats are not as nice but better mpg 44.8 as only 150bhp. only two dsg options in higher trims.. Gonna organise a test drive after looking at the specs. did say they’d give £200 of the ap so with £600 gcb that helps abit. £2099 for sel £2199 r-line I hopes the price drops in jan, but i doubt it.. more likely they could disappear as well… coz thats common.

Touran is a seven seater mpv, did look at one last time, two big for my needs. time before that AP was to high. Am popping into my local vw dealer tomorrow to checkout trims etc sit in the seats and see what they can offer off the advance payment this time.. Soon be Q1 and time to order. so I’ll need to make a decsion soon but till new prices are released all could change…

Before the golf i had a c4 grand picasso and a suv before that, but liking being lower again, The Tiguan is alright drove one for a week in sicily, One downside imo is the seats even r line tech comes with heated seats and i seen a few vids and a few have complained about the seats not being comfortable at all after 30 mins just painful and i have a bad back already, just gets worse more i sit in it. Is the one bad thing about the golf i have now. The seats.

Soon as a sat in the honda sport i was this seats alot more comfortable than my golf, even a basic peugeot 208 on my honeymoon in rhodes this oc gone, had a more comfortable seat than my golf, but the test drive in the civic was in the leather seats, so who knows. Often they don’t have the exact trim or model for a test drive. Then you stuck with the car for 3 years. but i gotta go vw so i’ll check it out…

The acc once you get used to how it works and the parameters then it’s great, might not be for everyone one but I’ve done a lot more miles in the golf than any of my other cars because of the acc, so easy all i have to do is steer most of the time. Its not for everyone but as a driving aid is great for me.
