Just got back from getting a new photo for my license renewal,
& no I didn’t walk, I drove? just because I could.
Tom…
Good news, I finally managed to get in touch with dvla & they stated I am still safe to drive. I did have to ask twice tho, as the response was that my entitlement to drive expires in 2034, it was just my category C hgv entitlement & my photo ID that had expired last year.
Hopefully the same reason why my license didn’t raise a red flag with the motability car order, the mb & private car insurance over the last 12mth’s.
So even if I didn’t have the class C, my actual driving license expired last year but I’m still ok to drive.
Even now that doesn’t make sense, but what do I know!
I still need to complete a D2 form to remove my class C entitlement & renew my license, but the online driving license renewal did state this & provided a link to the online document download page, but dvla said this form is not available online so they are sending 1 out,
So happy motoring it is.
Tom…
The dvla website states they are open from 8.00am, but phone # is constantly engaged,
The post office check & send only refers for use with a renewal letter,
So I’m still in the dark as to what forms I need to obtain & complete / when can I legally drive / will my license will be valid from the date of application or valid from the date of its return.
The wait continues
Did not move house & don’t remember any renewal letter.
I did try the online renewal route Adam, but it came back with I cannot renew online, I need to submit a D2 form instead.
I followed the link for the online form download, but you think I could find it? Hell no.
A quick google on the elusive D2 form showed reference to commercial vehicle licenses, that I do indeed hold still, but no longer want or need, so maybe that is the reason for the online kick back.
A call to dvla tomorrow & fingers crossed.

It’s not like I’ve had my license suspended & had a driving ban,
but 18 mth’s of driving without a valid license has got my stomach in a right old knot.Tom…
I’m glad it’s all finally come together for you Phaedra, with everything you have been thru recently, now is the time to start to kick back, relax & enjoy your new car.
Tom…
My 3yr lease end date was the 29th June & a new car order had been placed & accepted by motability about 10 day’s prior. Hopefully picking it up within the next couple of weeks.
Had the gcb cheque on the 4th July, never requested it or had any correspondence to say they were paying it early, I’m sure I read somewhere the early payment was on request only. It will go towards my new AP now tho.
Tom…
Glad to hear it’s all coming together for you Phaedra, now it’s the time to kick back & relax with your feet up.
Tom…
Motability’s car search is still down.
I think motability have been running some expected profit margins Projections data mining & all them zero’s from the new AP’s have put there system into meltdown.
Tom…
I’m expecting above average price increases apart from 1 or 2 exceptions.
But on the plus side, I’m also expecting more dealer offers & flash sale type deals that will come & go, the latter being more flexible & being able to react more quickly to economic supply & demand than being tied into a manufacturer price fix with motability until Q4 price is updated.
Tom…
I’ve seen some long lead time’s recently from different manufacturers, but that eta of 12mth on a Passat must take the crown.

After my email & call to the dealership last week, I emailed them again this morning to enquire why my car order had still not been handed over to motability.
For the first time ever they responded without me having to chase them, so as of today, I have an email from the dealer, stating I have a confirmed order in place with motability of a Tiguan R-Line Tech.
My asking for confirmation in writing as well as verbal, that only the lower AP between Q2/3 prices is still in place, as it had been for the Q1/2 price list back in March when I had originally ordered was ignored & not mentioned.
But at least I have a confirmed order now.
Tom…
Tiguan stock cars only!!!
Cheers for the heads up Mark, I could understand if there was a new model or facelift due out very soon, but that’s definitely a strange one.
Tom…
I will do Joss, I’ll call MB on Monday just to see if they can give the dealer a nudge.
If I was sure the Tiggy R-Line Tech would be on the scheme come Q3 I would leave them to plod along at there own pace, but if the VW tracker app is to be believed, my car could be ready to collect in the next few weeks.
Tom…
You have not had the best run of luck recently, fingers crossed for you Phaedra.
Tom…
They weren’t off for long.
I really only take note of the AP’s of car’s that we’re on my shortlist, so can anyone confirm what the shift in AP’s has been?Tom….
Celebrating your birthday with a bang takes on a whole new meaning now!
Stay well, stay safe,
Tom…
I suspect car manufacturers won’t want to set a price busting deal on AP’s for Q3 in July & be stuck with a set price for 3 months,
Most dealerships are still playing catch-up on orders pre-lockdown.
So individual deals would be more flexible & can react to supply & demand a lot quicker, especially as the full impact of the lockdown will not be resolved anytime soon & projected sales are more guesswork than fact at the moment.
The 1st week of July should be an interesting read regarding deals.
Tom…
@Phaedra I had another callback from my dealer yesterday, they mentioned my Tiggy order was build week 16, so are expecting my handover to be between 2 & 3 months time, but that build week pushback to 20 on your order seems odd.
I got the feeling that time frame is more guesswork than fact tho, as the VW chain of data & logistics information is also lacking for the dealers at the moment.
Tom…
Yes do keep us updated.
My dealer also mentioned that the VW database they use has not been updated for a while, (how long is a while? Lol) so it’s no wonder that the dealers are as much in the dark as anyone.
Tom…
@Phaedra From what I recall, my Tiguan order was placed with the dealer about 2 weeks later than yours on March 11th. so I’m using your order as my benchmark:)
After enquiring with my dealer what the lead time / expected delivery date is now, they finally got back to me this morning & there answer is that they still haven’t got a clue.
But they did state that they are currently rolling on build week 14 with production at 1/2 capacity & are slowly catching up on the shipping backlog at Emden, so hopefully you might get an updated notification on the app soon.

I did see a post yesterday mid afternoon regarding 1 of the local Asda stores, saying the store is virtually free of customers so now is the time to come & shop. Hopefully with all the bulk buyers not needing to go & shop for a while, the supermarkets supply & demand logistics are more in sync.
Tom…
I’m eligible to place my new car order from the 29th March, the only thing left to complete was the dealership placing the order on to the motability system before the month end.
The dealer had already placed the factory order & I have there order form with the Q1 AP listed. I’m guessing the negotiated Vs the revised AP’s will only be answered when all things will be back to business as usual. The forum input on my other concern is interesting tho.
Our daughter is a long term user of the scheme, but recently the wife’s health has deteriorated to the point of her receiving the higher rate mobility component herself, our daughter can’t drive & the wife is now unable to drive. So now it’s only myself driving we only need the one car.
Most times the car is used in accordance with motability for the benefit of the daughter, but with the now increasing hospital appointments & less so other car journeys for the wife, the car is now benefiting both of them.
On paper, I see it as bending the rules just a little bit, I just hope that motability see it that way to.

18 months ago I spent 7 days days in hospital, I had an unknown viral infection that they never found out what it actually was, I was in isolation for a week,
At the same time, my son in the next ward for 10 days, unknown viral infection so he was also in isolation for the 10 days, he had it worse than I did & twice we nearly lost him. Both of us pumped upto the hilt with broad spectrum antibiotics because they didn’t have a clue what they were treating
We both had all the symptoms of the now known covid-19.
Now my grandson who at the time was 8mth old made the 3rd generation to be admitted to hospital that same week, he was there 5 days with a severe chest infection & breathing difficulties.
Our symptoms back then were the same as covid-19 is now,
It’s the twilight zone & X-Files all at once.Tom…
The amount of cars queuing up at Macky’ds this afternoon, getting in before they lock the doors, was unbelievable.
