Well great news! as it’s my birthday today I went for a drive to get some shopping, nice T-Bone steaks and cream cakes 🙂

However, on the way home a nice man in a transit swerved out of oncoming traffic, then jumped out of the van leaving speeding along still in gear. No way of avoiding it, chap in front of me had stopped, couldn’t swing left as there’s a metal guard rail along the side of the road so just sat there and watched as it plowed straight into me 🙁

Luckily not too badly hurt, fire brigade had to prise open the door to get me out, I was in hospital for about 4-1/2 hours as I had Atrial Fibrillation!, luckily it settled down and I was let out at tea time.

The Yeti is a write off, I only extended the lease yesterday!, and I just filled it up on the way home!!.

Obviously it could have been a lot worse, I’ve still got everything, it all works (albeit rather slowly and painfully!)

I rang Skoda driver line when I got home and they are going to sort it all out (as I’m still in my original lease period until June 27th). They’re liaising with my insurance company and have given me contact details of a company to provide a replacement car.

Other than that not a bad birthday, I’m still alive and kicking!

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Blimey, what a birthday to remember…. or forget.

Hope you get fully repaired and into good health soon.

When you say “I’ve still got everything”, does that mean the T-bone steaks and cream cakes survived and are OK. Good old NHS. Did the nurses keep ’em in the fridge for you?

        Take care,
        Tony.

I’m starting to seize up!, everything hurts a lot more than it did a few hours ago!.

Cream cakes sort of survived, bit squished but still edible 🙂  T-bones are in the fridge.

I also had 2 boxes of Sainsbury’s strawberry Cornettos, gave those to the nurses 🙂

See how I feel tomorrow, my Autistic adult son was quite upset, I rang him while I was trapped in the car and let him know I wasn’t badly injured and that I’d be a few hours, luckily he got hold of his brother in Amsterdam who rang his sister and mum who came through to the house.

Not everyone gets to to have their cake and eat it or get what they wanted for their Birthday, I guess T-boned ended up Not being the treat you expected lol

Joking aside glad your ok, that’s the main thing, what bad timing. If you continue to not feel right, then make sure to get yourself checked out, Shock and adrenaline can hide a multitude of things.

              Happy Birthday

Alas tomorrow you’ll ache even more, but you’ll heal, stay safe & concentrate on that healing.

What rotten luck, Phaedra. Hope you feel better soon and get a decent stop-gap motor. If Motability had a Hummer on the scheme then there would be no prizes for guessing your next choice!

Phaedra, I’m so sorry to read this but I’m glad you’re safe, if a little bashed up. What absolute terrible luck for your birthday.
Don’t worry about the car, these metal boxes can be replaced.
I hope you’re not aching too much today.
                        Sending big hugs ?

? I will be remembered for nothing but had great fun doing it ?

Just wondering if you have gap insurance, I know it sounds like it wasn’t your fault but knowing what insurance companies can be like you could end up out of pocket.

Yes Menorca Mike. I also watch those programs and have seen the runners who do this to escape the police. The van driver just did not care who gets hurt, so long as they make their get a way. De-camp I think it’s called.

                                          Afternoon 🙂

Thank you all for your kind wishes 🙂

Just a short one, lots of phone calls etc, Skoda Ensure are sorting most of it out, got me a loan car dropped off about 30mins ago, now slumming it in a Range Rover Evoque!. Not impressed to be honest, not a lot of room inside, much more awkward to get into than the Yeti or the Tiguan but it’s the only thing they had suitable.

Stiffening up (and not in a good way!) loads of pain, left hand now almost useless with pain touching anything. Off to take more meds and back to bed I think 🙂

Sounds like the Evoque is a Tardis in reverse where the outside is bigger that the inside.?

Hope you make a full recovery Phaedra but wondering with the car being a write off saves you getting those tyres and having a service and gives a breathing space until your Tigger turns up.

                                            As they say “every cloud”.?

It’s certainly a birthday you will remember forever, not had such a birthday myself thankfully but I remember my dad back in the 70’s getting stopped for speeding on his birthday and when the cop looked at his license he said “happy birthday Mr K, here’s your ticket”.?

                                              @oscarmax

You can select Sport on the driver mode selector (eco pro/comfort/sport) this does things like adjust the steering weight and throttle response and if fitted dynamic suspension.

The second sport mode and the one that really makes a difference is to push the gear selector over to M/S or “manual”/Sport. This is the one that makes the big difference as you can select the sport gearbox in any driver select mode and the car will fly.

Select both and you won’t believe the response from 90 to 120 but you’ll have to go to Germany to check that out.? Around the UK it’s a great mode for twist roads and if you drive like a maniac and do hard acceleration followed by hard breaking you’ll hear the sound of the turbo waste gates chattering. But what near 60 year old would drive like a maniac??

                                                Hi, Phaedra!

That left hand sounds nasty.  Were you still gripping the wheel when the van hit you, or something?  I really hope you’re not a southpaw.

Thanks for letting us know the Evoque is all fur coat and no knickers!  Though, going by your last Post, you might not get much time in it anyway.

Any thoughts on the replacement, considering they don’t make Yeti’s any more.  Karoq or Kodiak – AP’s permitting?  At least the Vehicle Search is back now, so you have something to keep you busy for a while.

Well things just get better and better!

Had another call from AA insurance wanting all sorts of financial info on the car, explained yet again I don’t own it, talk to Skoda.  So, rang Skoda Ensure who are supposed to be dealing with this, 35mins on hold and no, they can’t give any financial info, talk to Skoda financial services.

Another 57mins on hold, sorry you need option 5, but option 5 says we aren’t taking any calls!.  So he transfers me, another 27mins on hold 🙁

Good news is they sent me a form to fill in so they can deal with it 🙂

Bad news is that as the car is a write off I no longer  have a car on lease with them so the lease is terminated as soon as the insurance claim is settled (so the loan car will go back then as well).

So that’s me effectively housebound (along with my adult Autistic son who can’t go out on his own) until I can find another car.  The VW I have on order will probably be 2-3 months and Motability can’t take any new orders until God knows when.  Public transport is no use as I have severe stress triggered IBS and local taxis are useless.

You may have to  be flexible on colour but you might strike lucky, if a stock vehicle can be found then the paper work can take as little as 4 days.

You will be at the mercy of Q3 prices but I don’t expect many to increase to much, most I’d expect to lower slightly as manufacturers try to rekick start UK sales, there could well be some individual deals from dealerships wanting to clear stock to start reordering from factory to maintain their discount insentives from manufacturers.
