Jojoe just read my post again and it came across a bit rude. That wasnt my intention i just have a laugh when people talk about hydrogen as a replacement for electric vehicles as its never going to happen.

          Sorry if i offended you.

Don’t worry about it Brydo, I’m very thick skinned ?

I hate having to get tradespeople in, the whole rigmarole of getting different quotes. I now just use the local government Buy With Confidence scheme (many local councils  Trading Standards departments administer it) to choose a trader. I was on the scheme myself when I ran my business and know they do genuine checks, not like the schemes which are all about making money.

I do remember paying a decorator to do the living room, I had to get him back after it had dried as it was streaky, I absolutely picked holes out of it. I’ve done my own decorating since.

What about putting pressure on the social landlord to provide a communal charging point, if there is an area for it. Like it or not, they can’t ignore EV’s.

I would think the MPG should go up, the MPG is based on the last few miles, it’s probably done a lot of stopping and starting. We have a 1L Skoda Octavia and it averages 45mpg round town and 65 on a long run.

Thanks for that kezo and Joejo.  I thought things were bad and Motability profits have been discussed here a number of times, but reading that makes me angry.  Scotland is free to use another provider. Let’s hope it does and the rest of the UK use the example to demand the same.

Thanks for the praise Wigwam, but it wasn’t me it was @Smoggy who found the report, I’m just an annoyed bystander lol.

They just where investigated well a study type thing by an independent disabled body in Scotland.

                      Aps too high

                      Wages too high

There was a few other pick ups by them.

It won’t let me post the link but if you Google the following then will find the report

Motability: a Briefing Paper on value for money by the Mobility and Access

I’ve just read that, I’m now even more annoyed. The money Motability gives to charity is from disabled peoples advance payments. ? The net assets of Motability are now £2.88 billion.?  Motability operations is owned by Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds, TSB and RBS. ?

Yes, and with the lack of new cars, the value of used cars is going through the roof so they are going to make even more money.

The thing I find annoying is the lack of a good deal if you want to buy your car at the end of the lease. You’ve paid £10k in PIP payments towards it, but they will sell it to a dealer who’s going to make a profit from it, for a far cheaper price than they will sell it to you. I think that needs to be investigated by the government.

AP’s are ridiculous. We need an auto estate, there’s almost always a couple with nill AP. This quarter the cheapest is an Astra at £949. Looking increasingly likely we’ll be buying privately.

W had exactly the same issue at end of last lease. Skoda said tyres were crispy and gave an advisory, Kwick Fit said no, I went back after another 1500 miles and they said no again. I think it’s down to the staff at the branch you go to and maybe how they are on their monthly targets.

                                Three major hurdles;

                                VAT

                                Charitable status

                                Credit scoring

All of which could easily be overcome.

VAT – Government already offers VAT free purchases on items for disabled people, extend it to cars.

Charitable Status – Let Motability stay but only handle the finance, transfer of PIP to manufacturers, they could also handle insurance and breakdown recovery. Allow them to make a little profit and raise charitable funds elsewhere.

                                Credit Scoring – See above

Motability have gotten too big and unruly, too many people taking a piece of the the PIP pie.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>However, speaking to a VAG group sales guy whom has recently retired. The profit on Motability cards is so low and the paperwork  so involved, they would now only like to sell to private customers.  Many dealers want out of the scheme altogether but fear the bad PR that will come from it.

                                  </p>

This would explain why SOME of the sales staff who deal with Motability can be clueless, we’ve had this a number of times. The Motability dealer is frequently the youngest most inexperienced member of staff. Apart from our local Ford dealer who had the same guy dealing with Motability for 20 years.

This week I am selling my vehicle to a trader. It currently has a disabled market on it for free vehicle tax. I have bought another vehicle and I intend to tax it on the same day. How do I get my free tax on the other vehicle if my current vehicle is the one I’ve registered as disabled? T I a

I think you need to deregister the one you are selling with DVLA. You can only have 1 road tax exempt vehicle at any 1 time.

Also I have test drove the car I really like and it’s perfect for my needs. My only issue is I find it difficult to get in and out with it being an SUV compared to initially having a hatchback (need the extra space)
Would Motability help with adding running boards or some sort of supporting platform to stand on before getting in/out of the vehicle?

Have you not considered an estate, we have Octavia Auto ETech mild hybrid estate, the boot is big enough for a scooter or wheelchair. It also very low. But there are a few on the scheme, have a look at the Toyota Corolla estate.

The price should come down a little in September when holidays are over. The USA use a lot of gas in the summer months as they holiday at home and do lots of driving, this increases demand. And if the war in Ukraine ends, we may start buying diesel from Russia again.

Depending on where you start from, Tebay Services on the M6 and Norton Canes on the M6 toll are both very good.  Cobham on the M25 is ok but usually very busy.

We join near Knutsford, Tebay too far North, I’ve used Norton Canes on the Toll and that’s nice, it’s the crowds I’m hoping to avoid. We’ll be travelling peak on a Saturday and I know disabled parking will be a nightmare. I thinking 1 stop on M6 ( Norton Canes) 1 stop on the M1 and 1 on M20 but not too near Folkestone, in case operation Stack or whatever they call it these days; is in force.

The maths on their site doesn’t seem quite right as it £4000 for 6 or £6200 for 8 panels, seems like they are over charging for additional panels. There’s no way it costs an extra £2200 for 2 panels.
