I thought I would make a thread on what caught you eye in the news good or bad. This follows on from last week when I posted about the MP Lee Anderson who suggested we could cook a meal from scratch for 30p and foodbanks weren’t needed if we could cook.
So today another Tory MP Racheal Maclean the safeguarding minister has said “That people struggling with the cost of living should take on more hours or move to a better-paid job”
How does a comment like this help the most vulnerable in society. Those that can’t work, the disabled pensioners or even those that can only take up low paid work for what ever reason. I find Mp’s and ministers are so out of touch with with the public, the comments they come out with are beyond nonsense.

There’s no way the 🤡 should stay until October. Get a new leader in asap.
July 7, 2022 at 10:21 am #190122BBC just announced that BJ to resign later to day. A Good Thing. There again, which similarly self-serving, power-freak bully will we get to replace him?
That’s the problem, there is no one fit to run the country as they are all either corrupt, liars or so out of touch with the commoners. On top of that you have both hardened leave and remain MP’s in the Tory party.
We are in the shite.
July 7, 2022 at 12:44 pm #190134More so, because from his speech, he is determined to carry on. He’s going to try to win the party leadership election again in the autumn.
July 7, 2022 at 1:12 pm #190135Sunak, Javid and Zahawi potential candidates
I truly hope not for the reason………….
July 8, 2022 at 6:23 pm #190230The only way an Asian will be prime minister is if the MPs choose two Asians as there choice to the membership. The Tory membership are as right wing as it gets so the thought of an Asian as PM will not sit well with them.
I really don’t know much about any of them but I will say Sunak has as good a chance as any.
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.
Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.July 8, 2022 at 7:26 pm #190237Brydo, sometimes you talk nonsense. This is one of those times. Right wing is not racist.

July 13, 2022 at 10:54 am #190626Shapps who stood down from the race because???
July 13, 2022 at 11:02 am #190627On the news yesterday they were saying what an asset Shapps was to any team as he is a master of a spreadsheet.
Wow, the bar is pretty low to be in the cabinet these days. You would think he would be all over the rising fuel costs with these skills!July 13, 2022 at 11:15 am #190628I knew someone who was master of a spreadsheet. Did five years in jail for embezzlement.
July 13, 2022 at 11:57 am #190634July 13, 2022 at 12:34 pm #190638Why did Shapps step down? A quick perusal of his Wikipedia entry gives a clue…
Shapps’s use of the names Michael Green, Corinne Stockheath and Sebastian Fox [as names he used to trade under] attracted controversy in 2012. He denied having used a pseudonym after entering parliament and, in 2014, threatened legal action against a constituent who had stated on Facebook that he had. In February 2015, he publicly said: “I don’t have a second job and have never had a second job while being an MP. End of story.”
However, in March 2015, Shapps admitted to having had a second job while being an MP, and practising business under a pseudonym.[26][27] In his admission, he stated that he had “over-firmly denied” having a second job.[28] In March 2015, Dean Archer, the constituent previously threatened with legal action by Shapps, threatened Shapps with legal action.
One would think that selection minions might wish to avoid another, embarrassing “does he tell porkies?” situation. The pseudonym issue is just one of the dodgy deals covered in the piece.
July 13, 2022 at 1:03 pm #190643Which ever way we look at it they are all corrupt, con artists, thieves and dam bad liars.

July 14, 2022 at 9:42 am #190717UK in hydrogen breakthrough as new £26m deal with Japan to help tackle energy crisis
The local council of Bridgend in Wales has signed a memorandum of understanding with Marubeni, a Japanese green energy specialist company. The agreement sets out proposals to develop a new 5MW-class green hydrogen initiative after the company decided to pick Wales as the preferred UK location for a green hydrogen demonstrator project. This initiative aims to create a green hydrogen energy plant that is capable of generating and balancing the supply and storage of low-cost green energy.
Hydrogen has also been proposed as a fuel for heavy-duty, long-distance transportation – as well as a way to store electricity produced by intermittent renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.
Through this deal, the Welsh Government hopes that the project would generate clean fuel for fleet vehicles ranging from council gritters to recycling and refuse collection lorries.
The company is also trying to figure out how hydrogen fuel might be used to heat buildings such as schools, residential homes, and local swimming pools.
Julie James, Minister for Climate Change, added: “This is an exciting and ambitious project that has the potential to contribute to our net zero ambitions, and we are delighted to witness this memorandum of understanding between Marubeni and Bridgend County Borough Council.
“The impact of recent rises in energy costs has underlined the importance of developing indigenous, cleaner, greener energy sources.
“Initiatives like the hydrogen demonstrator project are important in providing evidence of a clean energy for Bridgend County Borough Council and for Wales, and I am pleased that the council is working on this alongside a leading expert in renewable energy.”
The UK has been making large strides in developing hydrogen vehicle technologies after the startup Tevva unveiled the first hydrogen fuel cell-supported heavy goods vehicle (HGV) that is set to be completely manufactured, designed and mass-produced in the UK.
The company, which has so far raised £140million, has added a hydrogen fuel cell system to its current battery-electric HGV design.
The hydrogen systems will provide a boost to the existing electric batteries, allowing the truck to carry heavier loads for far greater distances.
According to the company, these HGVs weigh 7.5 tonnes and can travel for up to 310 miles, using a design they believe can work for the “overwhelming majority of fleet operators across a range of industries and sectors.”
Aside from having zero emissions, hydrogen cells also have a higher energy density than both lithium-ion electric batteries and diesel engines.
The firm’s chief executive and founder Asher Bennett told the PA news agency: “We believe that Tevva’s hydrogen-electric truck will be a popular choice for fleet operators across the UK, Europe and eventually North America.”
According to Tevva, one advantage of using hydrogen fuel cells to boost the range, rather than act as a primary source, is that it allows the truck to be equipped with “smaller, cheaper and lighter fuel cells and operate these at the highest possible efficiency.”

West London faces a de facto ban on new homes for over a decade because the electricity grid has run out of capacity.
Housebuilders have been told it could take until 2035 to get new developments in Hillingdon, Ealing and Hounslow hooked up to the electricity network because it lacks the capacity to serve them.
Energy companies and regulators are scrambling to fix the problem while Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has ordered officials to monitor the situation.
The holdup promises to delay a string of schemes in London, where a typical property costs £526,000.
Builders have raised fears that the issue may not be confined to the capital. The problem is understood to affect some areas in the Thames Valley as well.
In a letter to developers, the Greater London Authority blamed the issues in west London on a string of planned data centres that are set to hoover up huge amounts of power.
The area is a popular location for these centres because it neighbours internet “superhighway” cables that run along the M4 motorway and into the Atlantic ocean — dubbed the “Silicon Corridor”. One data centre can consume the same amount of power as up to 10,000 homes.
This has resulted in some developers being told they cannot connect housing projects to the grid until as late as 2035, the Financial Times reported, with data centres prioritised under a “first come, first serve” system.
July 29, 2022 at 9:25 am #192113NG has known for a long time it needs a substantial upgrade to meet today’s demands, but chose to do nothing about it when it first came to light. NG were recently also to interested in selling off a large chunk of of our gas pipe line infrastructure to foreign investors.
