I thought I would make a thread on what caught you eye in the news good or bad. This follows on from last week when I posted about the MP Lee Anderson who suggested we could cook a meal from scratch for 30p and foodbanks weren’t needed if we could cook.
So today another Tory MP Racheal Maclean the safeguarding minister has said “That people struggling with the cost of living should take on more hours or move to a better-paid job”
How does a comment like this help the most vulnerable in society. Those that can’t work, the disabled pensioners or even those that can only take up low paid work for what ever reason. I find Mp’s and ministers are so out of touch with with the public, the comments they come out with are beyond nonsense.

Then I don’t want to be a contributor to a forum that allows members to post racist accusations without sanction.

DafI have not accused anyone on this forum of being a Racist other than DeSantis. However if someone insists on defending a racist then people will draw their own conclusions.
The Mods are correct to point out this is not the appropriate forum for such discussions, however I got involved after what I saw as the repeated baiting of Brydo on the SNP thread.
Next time I will draw the Mods attention rather than retaliating.

I don’t think so mate. If you haven’t already done so, have a read from the 2nd comment on p26 on and judge for yourself. There’s alot I disagreed with and currently evaluating my position on the forum 🙂

Thankfully Ive only just seen this. However here you go again twisting everything to suit you!
Did you know, Desantis has received the Zionist Hero Award and the Champion of Israel award in 2019 and 2021 and has been an avid supporter of Israel since his initial campaign for governor in 2018!
He also signed the HB 269 bill in Jerusalem which tou can read more about below or in the Jerusalem post. He also said about the protests “best ignore them and let the authoroties deal with them”

Your comment on on Delays caused at Dover is due to brexit alone is nothing but tunnel vision. If you read past the headline and looked at the wider picture you would see bad weather at the time was one of the main causes and the passport delays on the french side, through extra checks sin leaving the union.

ajnI’m not going to read over as I’m not/wasn’t involved or want to be tbh..
I’m just surprised at the Wigwam comment as usually he can see other peoples opinions as just that… an opinion, and usually wouldn’t change his anyway?..
sad loss if he has gone…

It was more to do with principle at the end mate, rather than it down anything else 🙂

DafDeSantis is a prominent member of the Republican Party who put Trump forward, and became the President of the USA. They are a party far to the right of the Tories and have decided to ban any teaching of Critical race theory( the way white Americans exploited slavery).
DeSantis has turned Florida into the extreme right wing capital of the USA . I don’t need to twist anything to prove that I just googled it and do keep abreast of USA politics since Trump. He is also having a pop at Disney because they won’t adhere to his banning of the word “gay” and his opposition to gay rights as well as banning classroom discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity.
He also advocates the right of Americans to carry any guns wherever they want without checks and of course he refuses to use his power as governor to stop openly Nazi groups from plying their trade. He wants to curtail the rights of the press and is reducing abortion beyond 6 weeks.
Finally if you don’t think Brexit had a big part to play in the Dover queues pray tell us what did?

Brydo

DafThere seems to be a seismic shift in the politics of Northern Ireland. A united Ireland doesn’t seem such a pipe dream anymore, though there are still huge challenges to overcome.
Good to have you back Brydo.
May 20, 2023 at 4:25 pm #221887
BrydoThanks daf, I agree there is a change going on in northern island and hopefully it doesn’t result in problems going forward.
I get the sense that the many even handed, non partisan, northern Irish folk are taking a look at the choices  available in a new light.
May 20, 2023 at 4:44 pm #221890Northern Ireland’s only reputable pollster LucidTalk, and they are often at pains to point that out. There have been four polls on the question of a United Ireland in 2021. Of the three that include “don’t knows”, the average is as follows – 47% support remaining in the UK, 40% support a United Ireland, and 14% don’t know.
Who knows what will happen within the next decade!
May 20, 2023 at 9:20 pm #221932
BrydoI’m sure the northern Irish people will come to the best outcome for themselves. Maybe the benefits they are enjoying from still being in the EU will be an important factor, but who knows, only time will tell.

Brydo
May 23, 2023 at 7:55 pm #222256If indeed @Brydo that is the case, he won’t be the only one and is likely to blow open a can of worms, which will be interesting.
When you look back it seems minister/polticians from all parties were breaching the rules, some got caught, some didn’t, Yet the majority of us were obeying them, is what pee’s me off!
