On the phone to motability today, answered after 40 mins on hold, told them that my dealer has said my new order will probably be February for delivery and i said i will not pick up the car until March 1st because i would wait for new reg plate and they told me i would have to accept February collection and why do i want to wait for new reg. Well after arguing about it for 15 minutes and unable to make them understand why i would wait for new reg plate i told them i would not accept February collection and would not enter my pin number and would walk away and cancel the order. Rant over.

Seems a bit far away 7 months to bring that up with motorbility.Surely nearer time would of been better, because their is high chance it will be later and fall into march onwards anyhow.
June 28, 2022 at 10:59 pm #189424Why DO you want to wait for the new plate?
If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

June 28, 2022 at 11:36 pm #189426AnonymousDon`t you start, ive already had the motability gestapo interrogating me for the reasons, common sense of which they have none would know that a March plate would get more on resale than a February plate.
June 29, 2022 at 12:07 am #189427Many dealerships are insisting cars are collected as soon as available, if not they can easily sell on the car privately. Many people will be taking delivery in August, it´s a new world now.
June 29, 2022 at 5:52 am #189429Why should you care about the resale value? It doesn’t benefit you in any way. Are you concerned about Motability profits?
I’m not having a go, just genuinely curious as to why you feel so strongly about it.

June 29, 2022 at 5:53 am #189430If the world was more organised and most cars were taking 12 weeks or less (about normal ish?) then I don’t think it would be too difficult to time a delivery so that it lands on a brand new plate. Dealers often try to set it up so that they get sales on the 1st of the month as it will benefit them as well as the customer.
I’m not sure if that really applies with shortages of parts and cars not being built quickly enough to meet the demand. I’d imagine dealers want to get the cars out of the door as fast as possible then onto the next one.I don’t think motability will care in the slightest about the difference in resale value between a 72 plate and 23 plate in 3 years time. They operate on a much bigger scale to be concerned with that.
an interesting point is that there are 6 months between a new plate so if you don’t want to accept a car in month 5/6 when would be the last time that you would? 4/6? 3/6?
You have your reasons for wanting a new plate which to me is fine and doesn’t require an explanation but I do think it’s going to be difficult to get everything to fall into place for you in the current climate so it might be worth compromising
June 29, 2022 at 8:53 am #189440Our car came around 3 weeks before new reg date, we didn’t even contact Motability, just asked dealer if we could wait and register it with new reg, they agreed. Petty I know, but it’s was nice to have the very latest reg for a few weeks.
June 29, 2022 at 9:14 am #189442I totally fail to see the need to wait for a new plate, its a lease car, who cares – I mean, unless it has some sort of weird smugness/one-upmanship value. But then I am a foreigner, so it’s probably one of those weird UK things that I don’t understand like class deference or middle lane hogging…
I can’t even ask my wife about it as she’s also foreign (and been here a lot less less time than me).
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
June 29, 2022 at 9:24 am #189444I think some will be grateful to get there car when they can and reg plates to me are are no longer like they used to be and to be honest i used to like get a new year reg when it was in the good old days in August reg ad buying my own car.
June 29, 2022 at 10:09 am #189447In the current financial climate people are finding themselves in today with the likes of phrases the media like to use like “eat or heat” or folk not being able to afford petrol to get to work I’m not looking forward to when my new car arrives with its spanking brand new reg plate.
Living in a part of a city where it ranks as number 4 in the most deprived places in England I can imagine the looks I will get from folk around here when they see that one on my drive and the under breath remarks of “that’s a nice new car I bought you with my taxes” regardless if there misinformed or not.
Goes without saying I dislike the snobbery of the year plates system we have nowadays though I do recognise when my old boss had a personal plate that would suggest his car was 10 years old doesn’t work when you know what the new models look like.
June 29, 2022 at 10:31 am #189451I must say it matters not a jot about the latest registration plates. I am just grateful being able to get a car on motability.

After all your leasing a car not buying one, if you do buy it at any point from mbo then that will be reflected in the book price you will pay..
June 29, 2022 at 11:09 am #189455ReneMotability not caring about the plate for resale value is all the information you need. Everything past that is you “needing” the newest reg-plate.
If that’s enough for you to walk away from a car after 7 months wait, i mean.. different folks, different strokes, i guess. You clearly don’t need the car, so the upside is that once you walk, someone who actually does will not have to wait forever for it.

However the way things are going your car will likely be delayed anyway. If not delay pickup with the dealer who would likely be fine with it and in the meantime hope a retail customer doesn’t take a shine to it.

I’m trying to find the option to delete my account, there should be one if i’m not mistaken?
If not, if you could do the honours. Thanks

Are you thinking of abandoning ship @Rene

Are you thinking of abandoning ship @ReneYeah, i don’t think this is working well for either party. I understand that i can be abrasive sometimes, but the moment a moderator passive aggressively comes at me (for a second time now) for something that’s almost entirely an issue on their end (the forum keeps logging me out despite me asking to stay logged in, and if you’re not deliberately checking for it, you’ll not notice it – i usually notice when i want to quote someone, since that’s not possible when not logged in) is the day that i’ll just throw my hands up. Of course it’s not just this situation now, it’s just on top of me not being able to calmly deal with conspiracy theorists, luddites etc, on top of some questionable reprimands by mods for people who’re not okay with braking contracts, laws and the such like.
Better for everybody, moderators don’t have to deal with the “vast amount” of postings requiring authorisation (it was two that triggered this, as a sidenote), and i don’t get annoyed. Sucks to miss out on conversations with the few “cool” guys here, but we’ll all manage.
You certainly have a good one Kezo, maybe we’ll bump into each other at some point on Blwch Mountain (or Morriston Hospital, we’re regulars there). Just look for the fat angry german bloke in a grey GTE.

June 30, 2022 at 7:36 am #189526DonnaMotability deal with the resale. It doesn’t affect you. Doesn’t make a bit of difference to you. Only if you intend to purchase the car from them – then it will cost you more!

Yes I would agree with you that there is a minor setup niggle on the forum/server with its coding. It happens to me occasionally especially after Ive written 5-6 lines the system kicks me out as it has seen my post as garbage if I have not been active for a couple of hours or more (no sarcasm please) I’m also aware it has happened t other members as well.
Just to check your end, you have not refreshed your browser or deleted your cookies/history or your IP hasn’t changed since you were last active, it will be a problem with the forum, which I will bet my bottom dollar the forum is written in PHP, a simple version based around C/C++ to which I have flouted a few suggestions on different threads.
Given the forum is inclusive allowing non members to post is a rarity in the forum world. The problem in my opinion has arisen since @wmccarforum changed how non members can post, requiring moderation.
However @Rene you do not seem the type of person who will throw their hat in easily, rather somebody who can give as good as they get. My advice is sleep on it, but if you do decide to leave you never know I may see you around. Just look out for a Hyundai Tuscon with a fuel tanker behind it 🙂

Hopefully, the build date just came forward to BW43 – so.. fingers crossed, lol. Can’t afford (actually, don’t want to afford) £100+ in petrol every month.

My ISP doesn’t auto-disconnect, so IP shouldn’t change. I don’t delete cookies/history, i tend to only accept cookies that i can live with. I’ve been logged in my other “go-to” forums for years now, not once been logged out. Certainly not after a few hours of inactivity despite ticking “keep me logged in”.

Come on now. My hair clearly is too fabulous to wear hats. But feistiness isn’t the issue, it’s that i don’t agree with moderators on multiple topics – and it’s their platform, not mine. If they then become sassy on top, it’s time to accept that this place isn’t “made” for me. I’m just a guest, if i’m not okay with something, i take my coat (i don’t wear hats, remember) and no harm done.
Made me giggle though, next time we’re at Blwch Mountain and there’s a Tucson standing there i’ll discretely whisper “Kezo?” to the driver, while avoiding eye contact. Might be a very short visit in that layby then. 😀
