Four Core Targets by 2030
Slashing our carbon emissions by half by 2030 on the path to achieving carbon net zero in 2038
Setting the course for 100% BEV sales in Europe and 50% in the United States
Achieving number one position in customer satisfaction
Doubling net revenues while transforming our business models and sustaining double-digit operating marginsSome cars list prices have increased hugely, some upto 26% in the last few years. How much has the allowance we get increased? It’s just not keeping up at all and this is one reason we seeing ap’s rise so much.
Then there’s the other reasons, the lack of chips and raw materials and the goverment and eu policies put in place, these all have increased the costs of making the cars. I only see this getting worse as we move forward.
How much lithium is there? I saw an article not long ago that said there’s not even enough to replace all the cars in the uk currently, never mind the world. What it will mean imo is less cars than now, us sharing cars and not owning them or leasing them and then once driverless cars hit the road. no one will be allowed to drive as it’s not safe and for our own good.
Not much thought is ever given to us with Mobility issue and our dependance on a car to get out, live a better life in these green policies. Walk or cycle more what if you cannot? Now we cannot even afford to lease a suitable car if you need something larger or higher etc, than the basic smallest car. Which usually for me also has the basic most uncomfortable seats for my back.
@solent60 Indeed the top trim was excel no gr sport then, when i was looking at them not long after they 1st came out.
The 2.0l gives you more than just more power, or it did then, more range on just ev and it worked up to a higher speed than the 1.8l. Gives great mpg as well.. I just didn’t like the estate and don’t really need one.. Have suggested it to many though, as i do think if you need space then it’s an option over an suv or lack of them on the scheme and need good mpg and diesel ain’t an option.
Ap’s are crazy now so i wouldn’t be saying that now. Unless you want the entry level icon trim. which for me has quite a few things missing over the icon tech or design trims, but as steve says for him that’s not an issue and that car is available now is what also makes it great for him, rather than a long potential wait.
@marc yeah there was many trying to put him off as it has a cvt gearbox, but after driving it he liked it and got one. It crazy the jump in ap’s.It’s one of the reasons I’m leaving the scheme real soon as buying has become a more viable option for me. Than leasing.
Abarth hybrid, I Guess. Then Abarth electric by 2030. I will be driving an old car by my standards then..
My brother just got one recently which has been modified, has such a great sound from the exhaust.
I know on one of them you can press a button which opens a flap to increase the noise. My Civic’s exhaust is ultra quiet, but when the vtec kicks in that engine roar’s. It won’t be the same driving a full ev, they’ll play sounds of engines, but it won’t be the same. How many will be driving old non ev cars for that reason and many other reasons.
When i leave the scheme in a few week’s, I’ll be able to have a spin in my bro’s car..
I still think the Corolla 2.0 GR Sport hatchback is one of the best looking cars on the road… especially in bi-tone black & white. I shortlisted it when I changed cars last year and in the end, it lost out by a whisker. My sister-in-law has one in a light metallic grey & it looks beautiful.
The only problem with the 2.ol hatch is that the battery is in the boot and it’s tiny.
Hence why 2 years ago it got cut from the list. Plus from the time of looking at cars and actually being able to order, ap’s on all trim levels went up hugely. Think icon was £0 ap then also.. Not to bad right now but in higher trim level the ap’s are £2,195 for 2.0l icon hatch.. as opposed to £495 for 1.8l.
The downside to that is you’ll pay the same for the car in the next 2 years as you would a new one. disregarding any ap paid or to be paid.
Imo, It won’t change in two years when you reach 5 years and are forced to pick a new car or leave the scheme.
Personally i think it will only get worse, looking at the ap’s of many newer cars with added tech or ev, hybrid’s etc they all cost more, alot more. Many cars have risen up to 26% in the last few years. Our allowance has not kept up either.
I guess that’s why i am terminating my contract early and leaving the scheme when my new car arrives in the next few weeks. I feel if i wait, the offer i getting right now or the car in the format i want/need, won’t be available to buy new and i’d rather buy new than used, especially if i am keeping the car for the longer term as i plan to do.. As i think that works for me now.
Only you know’s what will work for you and what you can or cannot do, but we all need a car that’s suitable and with the added things we like.
I’ve never ordered any extras on the scheme on my 4th car now.
All cars have to come with it as standard for the ap. One thing I need is adaptive cruise and a comfortable seat and many cars it’s only the top trims that have both. Acc on some is part of a pack at upto £1500 on the golf it came as standard and on my current civic.
Had an a3 as a hire car and really did miss the acc and no way i’d pay extra above the ap for it as after all it’s Motability who benefit from that when you return the car after 3 years.
So i guess if you did add extras it’s maybe worth then extending for 5 years or even maybe buying the car from Mb. Only you know what’s best for yourself. The way i see it is we leasing the car, so I look at it differently to if i actually own the car. Which is another reason i going back to owning a car.
I just popped into the dealers as the blade was coming away and they did it right there and then. The dealers i get cars from are always local to me.
Unlike with some other car makers who at least a 40 mile round trip away. If that’s is the case then deffo worth calling mb.
May 26, 2022 at 10:26 am in reply to: All home EV chargepoints will need smart chargers from next month. #186146People been saying this would happen all along. Will draining the battery to support the grid over and over degrade that battery life? Never mind if they decide you not key enough to society to have a charge in the 1st place.
Restrictions rather than expanding the network and capacity before they pushed the demand and forced people who can afford to and have the off road parking to switch over. I certainly won’t be.. .
Same with smart fridge/freezers they want to turn off yours when they want and track your habits. How long before they cut you off totally as other’s needs are more important at that time.. or surge pricing, pay per mile, to replace green taxes lost. which are just revenue streams. They will need to come up with new ways to make us pay them.. the 4th industrial revolution is upon us.. ai will decide..
S.m.a.r.t means “self-monitoring, analysis, and reporting technology”
£69.30 a month on top of the full allowance, for the base model. Up to £110.97 a month extra for the top spec shine plus.
Then after 3 year’s, what you got to show for this outlay and who makes a profit from the added extra you payed at these huge AP’S.
I see buying a car a more viable option than ever, not much on offer is changing that.
If you discount small cars, electric and plugin hybrids, need an automatic only 5 seats there’s 29 cars on the scheme under 1k and 48 under 1.5k above that the ap imo is not justifiable.
Indeed chrisk, Plus also with the current global energy situation, all costs will go up including production and shipping. The kicker is, as I’ve been saying for quite a while, our allowance ain’t keeping up and some car prices have increased hugely over inflation, partly to do with new tech and hybrid system being added have increased costs.
Some new cars are up to 26% more expensive than in 2019.(what that means for the scheme is higher ap’s)
I was watching an interview with vertu group ceo and it was intresting how they selling less cars, have less stock but are making their biggest ever profits and it’s not down to selling online. He was saying that was the new model and they won’t be going back to the old one of having over supply of new cars or lots of used cars sitting around.
The dealer I’m buying my new car from has sold all the ones they ordered before they have even arrived.
Which imo also meens no deals for scheme vehicles, like we’ve seen before. Look there will be some if you able to move quick but not on factory orders.
What ap will the kia’s come back on the scheme at, I bet higher than now.. which is one reason why I’m making my move now back to ownership.
Lack of supply always, inflates prices as i have seen in other markets and it can be artificially created all you need is an excuse to do so, an event and then exploit that. 1st We had covid, now Ukraine and also the green agenda, with some levy or other, will all drive up prices and they won’t come back down to prior levels.
Then you say it’s a better way and keep it that way. Personally i know there’s some other agenda at play set by the un, wef etc and goverments rollout the polices and car makers have to fall into line to remain viable or face huge fines.
You will not own anything and you will be happy.
If your starving and get offered a slice of bread how happy will you be.. ecstatic. You get used to the new normal in 21 days.
Right now that seems many cars not being on the scheme at all. Which i don’t see getting any better only worse as we move toward 2030 or 2035.
Some companies are campaigning for the switch over sooner like volvo and tesco as they are going fully electric soon and their competitors should not be allowed to have an advantage over them so all should be forced to do as they do, even if it’s their choice to do so sooner they want new legislation brought in sooner to force others and everyone else to comply, rather than allow the market and adoption of the technology of the masses to dictate change, rather than have it forced upon us, which is the model we seeing put in place.
Martinod, It allows you to park where ordinarily you would not be able to park, which makes certain places more accessible.
This weekend i went to help my youngest brother look at cars I saved £10 on the dart charge and the hassle of calling and paying for it.
He bought an ex Mb car was 5 years old but had done only 3940 miles.
This might be the effect of makers having to ditch vehicles outside of the average emissions figures, so they don’t get fines and until they introduce different versions that meet the policies setout by governments.
There will be less choice and fully electric is not suitable for everyone, unless you have off road parking.
Guess it leaves you no real options on the scheme and maybe to get what you want/need, you need to do it outside the scheme. Something i am doing soon.
No way i will pay such high ap’s to lease a car, that’s suitable for our needs. Luckily i can just about to afford to, but not everyone will be able to afford to buy something new and then it means used and maybe less reliability, but we all have Mobile phones nowadays and if you do breakdown it’s not like it was before. Having to find a payphone or go to an sos phone on the motorway.
The scheme is great but as less and less is available and we need to put more and more towards it above the allowance and the fact that soon many makers imo will go fully electric sooner than 2030 as they will not spend any money on newer ice engine development or even hybrid systemsimo.
Now might be the time to get something to keep longer term till things improve with the charging infostructure, for those without the ability to charge at home, that really puts me off electric.
All of this is why i have decided to get a car outside the scheme, Dealer contacted me a few days ago and said car will be with them this month and it is the dealer that’s ordered them, he said they should arrive in 3 to 4 weeks, that was when i agreed to buy on the 12th.
I was told by my local dealer, If i wanted to order one i was told prob September. I didn’t ask about how long for one on the scheme would be as i’d already decided to leave the scheme.
I’d imagine though it would be longer, as when i mentioned i had a car on the scheme, he had a dismissive look on his face. Till i followed it up with but i’ve decide to buy instead of lease.. Then it was a total change.
The car I am getting is via another dealer so seems to me like, dealers are snapping up all the excess supply.
vertu froup ceo was saying other day they’ve made there biggest ever profits, even with reduced supply.
After speaking with Mb on phone and telling them why i am terminating the lease early they fully understand and it’s partly to do with the wait, but for me there are many others reasons also., but waiting a year / plus is out of the question.
Actual loss, will be that the value of the vehicle is now lower due to the higher than stated emissions and now dfon’t give the performance stated they would, But also imo the bigger claims will be because they was being mis-sold something they knew about and hid that fact. like with all the other mis-selling claims we’ve seen before, claims have been made on that basis, rather than loss.
Personally whatever i think, They have lied and that opens the doors to compensation and law firms taking on no win no fee cases, or class action suits.
Once a case is set in law it sets a precedent. Often though many claims for or against you are settled or dropped out of court by companies as they don’t want that precedent set, or other companies knowing the contractual details and could also open themselves to law suits from their competitor’s, for gaining a market advantage over them by cheating.
a bit like with airbus and boeing, claims and counter claims, who’s really makes money from it all and benefits, those doing the legal work. All civil / County courts really care about is who pays their fees and of couser the law, in this case in the uk i think it’s the consumer laws that will payout over the diesel claims.
We could really all claim against the car companies for mis-stating mgp figure if they wasn’t done by a third party and was done by themselves, as now we have real world figures as opposed to those before you’d never get anywhere near.
The total payout for PPI claims has topped £38 billion and still rising, thats was in nov 2020.
Interesting i had a parking notice and fought it as i knew i was in the right, i appealed on the legality, the appeals process found in parking companies favour, Then i got contacted by gladstone brooks, who had board members on both companies and the so called independant panel.
Anyhow a jugde didn’t see it like that and asked questions at which point the case was dropped. Why did the independant body find in the parking companies favour, when it was clear they did not have the legal right to opperate where they was and the notice was issued and i had provided that evidence to them.
Seems this happens alot and all part of the scam, lucky for me i worked in that industry for quite a while and understand the laws regarding parking on the the roads and private land.
Same will happen with many diesel car claims in uk, due to our legal system and they will settle out of court as they know once a court makes a judgement they in more trouble.
I assume you know there’s an VW Allspace still on Motability though of course very expensive AP to boot but I think things might start to improve in 10 months but unfortunately I don’t think the AP’s will.
It’s a petrol and currently they have a diesel, we actually gone petrol now after years of having diesels on the scheme, as we not doing the mileage we was and kept getting dpf regenerations was need.
£3799 ap over 36 months is another £105.52 on top.
Even if you take off the £600 gcb + £250 new car otp / £850 off it’s still £81.91 a month extra above the allowance to lease it..
Which is why i am leaving as well. Gaps closing between owning imo and making it a more viable option, than before.
Think they still do the GH if you lose your allowance, i know my brother decided to keep the car longer which he had for my mum and got less..
Shocking treatment not by mb but the dwp, they’ll use anything they can to remove your allowance.
My mum they took away her mb element when swapping her to pip and made her reapply and they then said she did not qualify as she was pension age, but under dla if you had it before you still got it after, at the same time she was suffering early stages of dementia. Sadly she no longer with us either .
I am leaving the scheme and terminating early, just got to call them back to finalise it, once i know exactly when my new car is ready to exchange for their’s it’s all arranged. I’m dropping the car to the dealer i buying from and they doing the exchange, albeit for a car i will own.
As I’ve been on the scheme for a while and never changed early before fee is only £50 not £250. Our current car just is not as suitable as it was and the car we buying is not on the scheme in the format we want.
I’ve never asked how much the car is to buy in 11 years of being on the scheme, but i have heard on here they not as cheap as you could get one of the same spec and mileage on the second hand market. Plus you’d have to pay the whole amount to buy it from Mb, which is not really an option for many.
You can rejoin anytime an they did say if i was to termainate again, it would be £250.
My new car will be arriving in 3 to 4 weeks from last weds when i agreed to buy it, payed a small deposit and was accepted for the finance. Which is much better than the long waits for new cars on the scheme many are suffering and that’s not really an option for us and is why were terminating early.
Plus i don’t see things getting any better sooner for the scheme, even if more cars come back onto the scheme, what will the ap’s be (high i’d imagine) and for me that’s dead money, like renting a house.
Whole process has been really easy though. Part of me is sad to leave the scheme but logically for us it’s the right thing to do.
Another option for you might be to extend for another 2 years if you coming up to 3 years and pretty much they will allow it during these uncertain times, if no car is available. But again, i don’t see that as good value for us as we paying the same for an older car as for a new one, taking aside any Ap. Right now though to many ap’s are too high for me to justify leasing and car we are getting on hp not pcp is at 0% apr so a real bonus.
Most new car loans are between 5% & 8% apr, I’ve been looking and that’s what pushed me towards the car we getting obviously it’s not probally suitable for yourselves but it’s a huge differrence, if an 0% offer for a larger 7 seater did become available that was suitable and affordable for yourselves.
Pcp deals are cheaper but I’d rather pay more and own it at the end and then i might keep it even longer.
Goodluck though with whatever you decide to do..
I guess it really, depends on if you can do without certain items for me, i had heated seats in my last car and they was helpful for my back, but my wife hated them and on my current car they was not an option but it had everything else i needed/ wanted.
I have not really missed them as the heater in the current car is way better and warms up pretty much as i hit the end of the street, where as the car before it would start getting warm on the way home from doing the school run.
Another thing was, your back would start hurting after 20 mins sitting in the car and just got worse and worse but it did not happen when anyone sat in the back seats, without the heated seats. So i think it was the heated seats, so for me it’s not such a big deal.
If the car came without adaptive cruise then that would be a huge issue for me.
I am the only one who drives the car so i don’t need electric adjustment etc, but i do need the seats to be comfortable and in my current car they so much more comfortable.
I’m giving it back soon though and leaving the scheme as it’s just become to low for my wife, got an offer to good to turn down, so gonna buy instead of lease. I should get it in 3 to 4 weeks and it beats waiting for something on the scheme and what i am getting is not on the scheme in the format i getting.
I think the main priority is having something suitable now and in our case it’s my wife that’s has more issue than she did.. although i’m the one with the allowance, only you truely know your position fully and if you current car is suitable, then it’s ok to wait, but if it’s not or you have no car then thats a huge issue.
hopefully things workout good for you, just sad you been waiting so long already then let down. Guess that’s another reason i jumping on the opportunity i have now.
Thx, It’s definitely put things into perspective and how time is the most valuable thing we have, as we cannot get it back. We are not in control of much at all in this universe and what was really important, just isn’t anymore. Time is the most important thing now.
Remember it well rox. I had a Reno 5 gt turbo and can remember my mates either having the Reno, Uno or the MG Metro turbo. All little pocket rockets back in the day ?
My m8’s had mk2 golf gti and an xr3i and one had a supra, not a hot hatch but that thing was crazy fast…
I had a 1.6 205 gti as well loved that car, water pipe blew not long after getting it and had the engine done, got the suspension / brakes etc off a 1.9 gti and the interior from one of those blue special edition with the half leather bucket seats.
Then a long came kids and practical cars until now and the civic sport 1.5l 182 bhp first civic with a turbo. My 1st ever car was a honda accord fastback 1.6l, was given to me by a customer, who was leaving the country. My friends called it “The beast” which is why i got this civic as not long after getting the golf on the scheme it came out and my son showed it to me..
Sadly not long after that in 2017 he passed away suddenly, still blows my mind. So really it was for him also.. he would of loved it and i still wonder what his 1st car would of been. In july he would of been 21.
He was my little car buddy and he’d get sent brochures and was on many dealers mailing list from such a young age. he’d check the specs for me and all that and it was so sad looking at cars without him.
I remember the old days driving a fiat uno turbo ie with the digital dash what a little rocket of a car that was…
soon i’ll be able to take his 500 for a spin..
@daveblue, Thx, Totally get what you are saying and i do agree the scheme is great, has been great for me in the past. I am planning to keep this new car for 5 years at least maybe even 1o years and if i did i’d only put 50,000 miles on it at my current mileage in 10 years. Just not doing the miles i was doing.
Who knows i might be a really old man and still driving it one owner from new, especailly the way things are going, with speed limiters coming and ev’s only allowed to be bulit and with no driveway to charge on. Quite a few things that tipping the scales for me really towards this decision.
With no interest to pay on the finance, it’s a huge bonus imo.. As i only have to wait 3/4 weeks till I’m in it and my current car i really do like it alot…infact i’ love it. but it’s just becoming to low for my wife as someone has to be kerbside and it ain’t me, There’s no chance i can get in or out unless i got no kerb even with help.
I really don’t know if i could wait, however long to get another on the scheme and or to be let down and it’s cancelled by the dealer or the specs ain’t what you agreed to, as has happen to so many on here. So this is the best option for me right now in the current climate, all things considered.
Just called mb, took my private plate off and i have the originals to go back on. So the problem of not being able to have them on from the start of this lease in 2020 has helped.
Mb said £50 to terminate as it’s the 1st time in 11 years but can rejoin scheme at anytime and if i was to rejoin and had to cancel again, it would be £250 so that’s another bonus. Plus I should get around £800 to almost 1k back depending when i hand it back and the new one is available.
Mb was helpful and very understanding as i have always found them to be even he agreed that currently stock is down from 2k/1600 cars and to today theres only 555 cars on the scheme right now 300 are automatics and the model i getting is no longer on the scheme.
My brother just got a fiat 595 recently has been modified way to small for us and no adaptive cruise, which is a must.
It might be to do with the power to weight ratio rather than just straight bhp as electric cars are heavier.
I think it was the Toyota rav 4 when they was on the scheme that was 225 bhp.
Definitely worth ringing mb and checking as kezo suggested.
Totally understand where you are coming from @rox. I think it was @myself33 who mentioned LV, as he is leaving the scheme. You could also try direct line, I’m pretty sure they are also taking over scheme insurance next month and would be cheaper off scheme than RSA.
Thank’s i did do a quote with direct line also afew weeks ago… and was quite a bit more than the others for the same cover.
What i’ll also enjoy is being able to driver other people’s cars like those belonging to my brothers for instance. Not being on the scheme, I’ve had to decline when they said take them for a little spin.
If they are taking over from rsa then maybe also it’s a good time to leave the scheme as they might not go back for the 11 years i been on the scheme with no claims.
What car are you getting rox
Suzuki Vitara 1.4 booster jet SZ-T AUTO. Dealer contacted me today saying they was getting some in soon, was i still interested.
I prefer the 1.4 gearbox to the newer 1.5 version as its got an ags, so is a manual gearbox that automatically changes one of those hydraulic ones and definitely not for me..
My local dealer only had the awd version with the 1.4 and i don’t need awd.. or a wait till sept for a 1.5l. So will have to travel 70 miles to pick it up.
My wifes friend who lives across the road has one, thats an auto had a test drive a few weeks ago, but the 0% is very attractive. plus it has lots of saftey features as standard like blind spot, adaptive cruise which i really need in a car..
It’s a catch 22 who know’s when and at what ap the Kia Sportage will come back on the scheme if it ever will..
Whatever it is it you order it should fit your needs, you could ask to extend your 3 lease to 5 years and at anytime order a car, there are some though, who already done that and have been told to order something asap and likewise with them they said nothing was suitable or the ap was to high for them. What do you do?
A compromise may have to be made.
Personally i went for a car over an suv the last two times on affordability and the truth is i have issues with both getting in and out of all cars, but i do find in my current car once i am in, it’s less painful driving it than an suv.
what do you curently have? and what are you basic requirement, for me thats adaptive cruise control also, that’s made a huge difference for me driving.
