Yesterday I test drove a Toyota Corolla touring sport (estate) we had it for an hour, giving me a chance to use it on 20 mph to 70 mph roads. I also got in and out a few times to make sure thaI could manage it. Both my wife and I loved it. After the test drive, the motability specialist told us that they had a cancellation arriving in September, and I could have that one. It wasn’t the colour we wanted, (white not grey) Anyway I explained that I couldn’t order until next month, so would probably miss out on that particular car. The salesman said it was fine, if we paid a deposit to secure the car, we could just order the car as normal next month. So I paid £99 which will be taken off the ap.so luckily it looks as though I will miss the long wait.

IanfcaWhat a great result and a great dealer.
May 29, 2022 at 11:39 am #186316Steve great news, I only hope your salesman is different from the many who don’t tell the truth.

JojoeWe liked the Corolla Touring, it’s was on our shortlist, but we ended up with the Octavia estate DSG mild hybrid. I think the fuel filler cap was on the wrong side (near side) for my partner to be able to fill it up herself. If it’s on the off side she can fill up herself without getting the wheelchair out.
May 30, 2022 at 9:14 am #186371Thanks guys, I was just in the right place at the right time. This dealership has a very good name, and although some dealers will tell you what you want to hear, the guy showed me the paperwork and I think he can be trusted.</p>

May 30, 2022 at 9:43 am #186474Nice car, I had a Corolla 1.8 GR Sport Estate as a company car. I retired last month and was sad to see it go back. What engine and spec did you go for?

My car SEAT Ibiza SE Tec 1.2 petrol TSI 2017.May 30, 2022 at 11:30 am #186513I still think the Corolla 2.0 GR Sport hatchback is one of the best looking cars on the road… especially in bi-tone black & white. I shortlisted it when I changed cars last year and in the end, it lost out by a whisker. My sister-in-law has one in a light metallic grey & it looks beautiful.
May 31, 2022 at 9:41 am #186593I had to go with the Icon, which is the base model. It has a very good spec, including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, heated front seats and steering wheel also has a reversingcamera. The next model up is another £1000 for not much extra. It adds sat navigation, but I use android auto, so that doesn’t matter. It also adds self parking, but I have that on the kuga, and never use it.
The GR looks fantastic in both the hatchback and tourer models.

The Corolla missed out by a whisker only because of the somewhat hefty AP at the time Steve. In two years time when I’m due to change, I might well consider the Corolla GR Sport again as, fingers crossed, things may be a little better financially for me. My previous car was a C-HR which was terrific. It had all the bells & whistles – including self parking which in 3 years of ownership – I never used once!

The only problem with the 2.ol hatch is that the battery is in the boot and it’s tiny.

Hence why 2 years ago it got cut from the list. Plus from the time of looking at cars and actually being able to order, ap’s on all trim levels went up hugely. Think icon was £0 ap then also.. Not to bad right now but in higher trim level the ap’s are £2,195 for 2.0l icon hatch.. as opposed to £495 for 1.8l.
May 31, 2022 at 1:07 pm #186616That’s true about the boot rox, but I could have easily coped with the size of it personally. I loved everything about the 2.0 GR Sport but just couldn’t stretch to the high AP at the time. I looked the other day and note that the AP has gone up a further £1,000 for the GR Sport 2.0 hatchback to a hefty AP of £3,245. I can’t see it coming down much, if at all, in the coming months or indeed years sadly. That’s a lot of AP for a car built in Derby.
May 31, 2022 at 1:19 pm #186621I remember MinorcaMike, what happened to him, having a 1.8 CHR Design last year AP £795 its now £3,895.

He’s still around I believe but doesn’t post much these days. He’s probably out & about enjoying his C-HR still that I helped persuade him to get as I had one at the time!
Not sure what Toyota are playing at these days. Their larger vehicles/SUV’s demand a huge AP these days. I know they’re not the only car manufacturer upping the AP’s, but when I look at what they are nowadays compared to a year or two ago – they’re bordering on obscene!
May 31, 2022 at 1:42 pm #186624@solent60 Indeed the top trim was excel no gr sport then, when i was looking at them not long after they 1st came out.
The 2.0l gives you more than just more power, or it did then, more range on just ev and it worked up to a higher speed than the 1.8l. Gives great mpg as well.. I just didn’t like the estate and don’t really need one.. Have suggested it to many though, as i do think if you need space then it’s an option over an suv or lack of them on the scheme and need good mpg and diesel ain’t an option.
Ap’s are crazy now so i wouldn’t be saying that now. Unless you want the entry level icon trim. which for me has quite a few things missing over the icon tech or design trims, but as steve says for him that’s not an issue and that car is available now is what also makes it great for him, rather than a long potential wait.
@marc yeah there was many trying to put him off as it has a cvt gearbox, but after driving it he liked it and got one. It crazy the jump in ap’s.It’s one of the reasons I’m leaving the scheme real soon as buying has become a more viable option for me. Than leasing.
May 31, 2022 at 3:09 pm #186635Some cars list prices have increased hugely, some upto 26% in the last few years. How much has the allowance we get increased? It’s just not keeping up at all and this is one reason we seeing ap’s rise so much.
Then there’s the other reasons, the lack of chips and raw materials and the goverment and eu policies put in place, these all have increased the costs of making the cars. I only see this getting worse as we move forward.
How much lithium is there? I saw an article not long ago that said there’s not even enough to replace all the cars in the uk currently, never mind the world. What it will mean imo is less cars than now, us sharing cars and not owning them or leasing them and then once driverless cars hit the road. no one will be allowed to drive as it’s not safe and for our own good.
Not much thought is ever given to us with Mobility issue and our dependance on a car to get out, live a better life in these green policies. Walk or cycle more what if you cannot? Now we cannot even afford to lease a suitable car if you need something larger or higher etc, than the basic smallest car. Which usually for me also has the basic most uncomfortable seats for my back.
May 31, 2022 at 5:21 pm #186655did you look at the Suzuki Swace ( identical but for the badge ) or just the Corrola?
just wondering if there was any reason to go for the Corrola as the Swace is cheaper?
June 1, 2022 at 9:29 am #186691Hi Noel, I did go to look at the swace, but my local Suzuki dealer said there would be a long wait for one. He just didn’t look interested in talking to us. He was completely the opposite to the Toyota dealer. I get that the swace is half the price of the corrolla, but customer service means a lot, especially if you have to deal with the dealership for three years.
