I picked up my Mercedes CLA on Thursday after just 2 weeks since placing the order. Everything went well and my dealer kept in contact all the way through the process by both phone and email – complete contrast compared to this and Volvo where there was 6 1/2 months of total silence.

Car is fantastic and zero regrets whatsoever. I’m finding the drivers seat more comfortable than I did the XC40’s seat so that’s the main thing for me. Boot is far bigger than the Volvo too which is a major bonus in getting my mobility scooter in and having enough room for shopping/suitcase etc. Tbh I never wanted an SUV type vehicle anyway and being a shorty I find it far easier getting in/out of the CLA, I had to bend my neck/head forward quite a bit to get in/out of the XC40 with the drivers seat set up for me.

Car drives like it’s on rails compared to my Volvo and straight off the bat I’m getting 40+ mpg overall which is impressive. I think the addition of the mild hybrid equipment on the new CLA’s is definitely making a difference to its fuel economy here. Performance is great and even though a 1.3 engine you now get 177 bhp so no issues at all on that front. 😁

After almost 7 months of waiting for a car and just getting constantly let down I’m glad I cancelled my XC40 order. Volvo have lost a long standing customer over all this and I doubt I will ever get another Volvo again, they shot themselves in the foot over this. Yes, the AP cost is way to much but having said that the current AP on the XC40 is only £500 less now so when you compare the prices in June they’re pretty similar.

Afternoon All, 🙂 Ive had an email from My Dealer this morning (Preston Dealership) My car is finally on the production line, Status Online, he will email at weekend to say if it’s been despatched yet. Order date 2/2/23. ☺️

Fabulous 😀 at last! Hope I get notification at the Friday.

Id bet my bottom dollar you do Karen, 🙂 Summing up in my opinion, December orders like Ours, (Mine originally) but cancelled to get the lower AP where just in such mass orders they could not cope, no communication down to the dealers, so limited/non to us, instead of holding their hands up they just tried to wing it, and it all went wrong, My order now, from Feb 2nd to being built June 11th I’d have been more than happy with timescale and communication. I wonder how UncJ is getting on with the Merc order? I hope he pops back on to let us know. I feel as though we and a few others are the originals on here through the Volvo Saga 😂

Firstly – Sorry for no “proof of life” photo but I’ve been really unwell this week, a lot of it down to stress I think mainly over selling my old car.

Anyway, I picked up my Mercedes CLA on Thursday after just 2 weeks since placing the order. Everything went well and my dealer kept in contact all the way through the process by both phone and email – complete contrast compared to this and Volvo where there was 6 1/2 months of total silence.

Im seeing people on here who’ve ordered XC40’s months  after many of us placed our orders getting cars in short wait times which is brilliant for them, really pleased. But … what on earth happened to those of us who ordered cars in December 2023 & January 2024? Did our orders go in a black hole or something? We’ve NEVER received any sort of explanation to what happened have we? It’s really bizarre. 😞🤔

For those of you still waiting I wish you all the best and hope your cars come ASAP. 🙏

@UncJ Just a quick update. Volvo rang me today to say that they had a stock XC40 Recharge which should be available to collect by 13th July. It’s in the green which is what I wanted, so I’m very pleased. It’s MY24, but I’d much rather have a car in the next month than the uncertainty of waiting for a factory build. Fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong as the wait for a factory build is 4 – 6 months, I was told. So far the staff at the dealership have been very helpful. I’ll keep you posted!

Sounds good but … Unless things have changed very recently Volvo UK would not allow any stock cars to be used for Motability orders. ALL Motability orders had to be new build cars. I would question the Motability sales staff at your dealership on this and get them to double check that this would be available for you with absolute certainty before ordering.

Did a test drive of the XC40 Recharge on Friday. We both really liked it, lot more comfortable than the Ioniq, Enyaq and Niro. Plus easier to get in and out of. Was told 4 – 6 months to order unless one in the network. Must admit I’m confused about whether powered passenger seats are included – they were on the test drive version, but are not in the MY24 spec list. Does anyone know if the MY25 have them? Heat pump is another area of confusion. I suspect unless we are very lucky we will have to go for a build. Shame the top spec isn’t on the scheme, that sunroof looks great! Be glad to hear about ordering experiences with Volvo. 🙂

Hi Ellie, just checked and the only model available on Motability is the Plus trim which indeed does come with a powered drivers seat and a heat pump too. Cracking spec overall and much more included compared to the petrol version. You get adaptive cruise, blind spot monitoring, pilot assist etc, etc. they have recently renamed it as the “EX40″ and yes that is all MY25 model too. Take a look at the Volvo configurator to get the full specs of the car.

My experiences are well documented both here and another forum and they’ve really not been good. Ordered an XC40 Plus 2.0 first week of December and still not had a car or a confirmed delivery date so I cancelled my order and now have a Mercedes CLA to pick up later this week.

The trouble is so many dealers are so used to outright lying I’m pretty sure they believe the guff they give out to us customers as being true. I’ve heard it all over the years and I’d say 80% of it is utter carp! 😜

I had an Abarth 595 MTA back in 2015 so not first time. Definitely the first time the Comp has been on the scheme though. My health was much better then but no way I could get one now..but for those that find the car size meets their requirements it’s the best fun you can have in a car for me.

Closest enjoyment I’ve had to when I was able to ride a motorcycle. Put a wide grin on my face EVERY time I drove it. A bit dated now but still worth a punt I reckon if int could suit your needs. 😁👍

Car now at dealers and ready for handover next Thursday. This is all most overwhelming right now after waiting 6+ months with nothing happening with useless Volvo. 😁

Wow UncJ that’s amazing! 2 weeks from test drive to collection well 3 if it’s next Thursday but wowzers so happy for you mate. Mines built just awaiting despatch email 4 months later 😁

No, it will be 2 weeks not 3 since ordering as I ordered late pm on Wednesday 05.06. In fact I could have had it this week if not for the Motability “4 day rule”. 😁

Sounds like the sensible thing to do. Lasts longer, better mpg, better quality fuel. Cost is going to be negligible as you’re barely using any petrol.

Like Kezo, I use fuel stabiliser in lawn mower along with Shell V-Power and never have a problem. Well, apart from this year when I ran out and thought it would be ok which it wasn’t when wife went to do first grass cut of the season as it wouldn’t flippin start! 😆

Yes,  my dealer hinted at similar when I placed my XC40 order back in December too.

When I signed up for Mercedes CLA this week the salesman wasn’t too sure but that was because he was new to the job and1st day of doing Motability. I phoned Motability in front of him to check and they said no problem at all and also (I didn’t know this) that so long as you have a plate on a retention certificate you no longer have to ask Motability whether you are allowed to do this as they’ve removed that age old restriction from the scheme. Any customer can now put any plate they want on their car so long as it’s not rude. 😁😜 As above, easy to do yourself but yet another thumbs down to Volvo for playing silly beggars.

My Mercedes Salesman checked with his manager and he confirmed no problem for Mercedes to register a new Motability car on a private plate. 👍

I only placed my Mercedes CLA order on Wednesday and went for grey (again! lol) and I’d barely made it out of the dealership car park after placing said order before I started thinking “Maybe I should have chosen silver?” 🤭🤣🤣

Get home and the wife asked what colour I’d ordered and said – “Not another boring grey car again!” 😆😜

Great choice @UncJ 🙂 Would you mind telling me what scooter you have please.

Cheers @kezo Scooter is a Travelscoot Deluxe. They don’t make that exact model anymore as they’ve changed the design of it. I’ve had it 5 years now and has served me well. Not as robust as a full sized scooter but it has advantages a full size scooter doesn’t like not needing a hoist etc. Had to import from Germany when I bought it but there’s now an official UK seller.

Looks like this fully assembled and takes about 30 seconds to put together (on a great health day! 😆 )

@UncJ how did your test drives go? 😊

Just got back! Test drove the Mercedes CLA 200 coupe this morning. Discounted the GLA as boot too small (short) to put my scooter in unfolded, looked at the CLA Shooting Brake but it didn’t offer anything to me extra over the coupe as the boot size is roughly the same.

Had a smile on my face as soon as I got in the car, seat perfect for me, easier to get in/out of than an XC40 for me. Far more exciting a drive than the XC40, I’ve had Volvo’s for years and love them but …they are a bit of a boring drive. Suspension was surprisingly supple I found and really handled bad surfaces extremely well. 1.3 engine absolutely fine and more than enough go for me.

Got back to dealer with a broad grin, called my Volvo dealer and cancelled and signed for the CLA on the line there and then. Car in the exact colour I wanted here in the UK at Purfleet and now reserved in my name – car was built in April and I was shown everything as proof on the Mercedes system to prove it all, take note Volvo!!! 😛

Told between 7-14 days wait and no more. I really don’t want to spend the extra money on the AP but the car was just right so had no doubts whatsoever. To all those still waiting for their Volvo to come through I hope they come ASAP for you as it’s been a rough ride for so many of us. 🙏

Off to Mercedes tomorrow after speaking with the salesman on the phone earlier about a CLA 200 executive. Explained that I was a bit gutted about the premium plus not being in the scheme as it improves the look of the car, and he said they’d be able to add a night pack with blacks out the chrome, tints the windows and upgrades the wheels to the black 19″ AMG ones on the Prem plus. He’s sorting a price out and will let me know when I’m down there tomorrow, but he thinks it’ll be around £800/1000. And they have cars available within two weeks.

Interesting he said that. I just happened to note the terms on their MB .pdf price list as at the bottom in small print it says this:-

Standard Metallic Paint only, offer does not include solid or manufaktur paint. Standard car only, factory fitted options cannot be added. Adaptions can only be fitted by a Motability approved insta ller as part of the Motability application, all Motability vehicles are excluded from MBUK campaign support and personalised offers. Selected stock only. Applicable for orders with a confirmed sellable commission number between 03/06/2024 – 30/06/2024.

I got the impression from that no options were available for MB cars though I really hope I’m wrong.

Not sure, I was told 07.06.24 but haven’t called to see if it’s changed. To be honest any trust I had with Volvo has been lost and I no longer want to deal with them. ☹️

@nshaw @Uncj did either of you put a cash deposit down at Volvo? I put £500 down as he said all Volvo dealers ask for this to have the car built. So my AP is 1499£, minus 750£ new car P, minus my 500£ so on collection is just pay £249. Just wondered if this was the norm x

No not this time, I’ve been asked in the past and I just shake my head and laugh. Even though you’ve paid a deposit you shouldn’t have any trouble getting the money back, especially the way you’ve been treated with the ridiculous wait.

AP is £3999. Funny thing is, most cars they’ve listed are whether it’s the lower spec models or the higher AMG Line Executive models. 🙃 It’s way more than I wanted to spend but I reckon I can beg, steal & borrow to raise the extra and after what would be an 8 month plus wait for my XC40 … assuming it even turns up when they now say it will I thought stuff it, if I REALLY can get it within a fortnight I’ll go for it if it’s right. After all, over a 3 year lease assuming I do my normal 10,000 miles a year it will work out a similar price to the Volvo with the better fuel consumption. Also .. as the Mercedes comes as standard with tinted rear glass I’ll save £200 there against the Volvo. 😉 My major doubt is – did the person I spoke to know for certain that MB customers are allowed to order stock cars? I guess I’ll find out tomorrow. Asked to test drive both the CLA & GLA and told no problem.

Do you look at the Motability Scheme information Support FB page the dealers were saying immediate delivery on some models! Let us know.

No, didn’t see that. I did notice on the Mercedes MB price list .pdf it did seem to indicate stock cars in the small print .. I might have interpreted it wrongly though. Will let you know how it goes tomorrow. 😀

MrsL83 – Mercedes seems to be live on the Motability site now!! Had a Quick Look at the GLA 😀

Ive just looked at the GLA, test drive booked. the only thing niggling me is engine size.. not as though I whizz up and down motorways but I’ll see how it feels, why don’t you book a test drive? No harm, see how it feels x

Really good motor actually despite being a 1.3. Had one when my last MB GLA went in for a service and was impressed. I’d say it probably drives very similar to the 2.0 Volvo performance wise but with better economy.

Make sure you try the 200 and not the 180 though, 180 is same engine but with a lower bhp map. Both are exactly the same price.

Full list of cars on MB and AP prices here:

                                                https://tools.mercedes-benz.co.uk/current/passenger-cars/motability/price-guide.pdf

Some eye watering AP’s on it yet some like the CLA shooting brake seem not too bad value I suppose at £4K. Price List is dated 03.06.2024 so expect it to go live tomorrow or soon after.

@UncJ on speaking to a good friend who works for Merc locally he said they are really hoping to get back on MB for 2025 (September) they are just clearing a back log of orders etc, but they are definitely re-joining 🙂

Thanks for that, bit of a long wait unfortunately. ☹️

If our cars don’t turn up now I don’t know what to say, it’s just ridiculous how long we’ve waited when retail customers are collecting new build cars in under 6 weeks. Frankly, it’s insulting really. If mine gets delayed again I think I’ll just cancel and keep my own car. It would already have been 8 months of my life wasted and I’m not prepared to just carry on in hope. NEVER again! 😡

Hi anarchy21, can you post a link please ? Thank you.

I’ve seen some on the Bristol port delay thread and various other sections http://xc40forums.co.uk some of the Facebook xc40 groups also showing April orders and may delivery. 🤷‍♂️

Only thing is I think almost all of those are retail orders which are clearly not getting the same level of rubbish service we Motability customers continue to receive. People getting cars within 6 weeks of ordering, I’m currently a week shy of 6 flamin months! ☹️😞
