I didn’t even realise until now that Jaguar don’t even make the I-Pace and that it is built in Austria by the company Magna Steyr. Also, it’s shortly due to be discontinued.
March 14, 2024 at 8:34 am in reply to: Police ram runaway electric car after brakes fail on M62 #268399Interesting follow up to this news. I’ve just read that a man has been arrested in connection with this incident and being questioned under suspicion of dangerous driving and causing a public nuisance. Seems there is more to this story than first appears.
Yes, curiouser and curiouser it seems. The guy sounded pretty genuine in his interview but who knows? All very strange that’s for sure. ?
Take a look at the few Volvo related threads on here and over at the XC40 forums. Sadly it seems that Volvo’s modus operandi in 2024 is silence, silence and yet more silence. Really poor customer service I’m afraid, seems you can’t blame the dealers either as they seem as much in the dark as we all are. ☹️
Well, latest from the XC40 forum doesn’t sound good .. if it’s true..
2 posts from a user named “BlackStar66”:-
“ I spoke to our dealer this afternoon and there are no XC40’s being built until May 2024 with deliveries from mid August to late October this is all models”
And..
” I believe it’s the change over to 2025 model and reconfiguration of the factory to include the EX30”
Now I’ve found the info over there pretty accurate since I’ve started following it but I’m hoping this info is false, but .. somehow I really don’t think it is. I’m just hoping that anyone who has ordered a MY24 car has had the car built because otherwise, and I’m in this category myself, it really doesn’t look good. Getting any info from official Volvo sources & honest updates from dealers is in short supply as we know. ☹️?
I ordered my XC40 mild hybrid early January 2024, advised via email yesterday, still on track for early/mid April 2024.
Good to know, hopefully your dealer is correct. ??
Anybody, whose ordered a car, had any recent updates from their dealer on delivery time yet?
Ordered mine first week of December and dealer called about 3 weeks ago to say that car should be here by June .. hopefully!! .. and it will definitely be a MY24 car and NOT a MY25 version unless I were to cancel and reorder and then expect delivery by September at the earliest! Naturally I kept my order as it was.
I see that over on the XC40 forums some members are finally getting vehicles they ordered back in August and September last year but others who ordered around that time are still waiting. Volvo not looking good on the keeping customers informed front really, abysmal in fact. ☹️
March 9, 2024 at 7:35 am in reply to: Police ram runaway electric car after brakes fail on M62 #267518Full 45 minute audio interview with the driver here and he explains exactly what happens. Very scary indeed! ?
It’s all a bit shadowy, isn’t it?
Sorry, but Motability really should be stepping in and sorting this disgusting mess out. It’s down to them at the end of the day and their customers should definitely not be having to deal with such shoddy business practices! ??
Not a Waylands dealership by any chance was it? Had disgusting service from them so walked away. Johnsons Volvo of Gloucester have been great so far at their end, not much they can do about getting almost zero info from Volvo UK though especially regarding all the port delays & factory shutdowns over getting no parts in with the Red Sea problems & then the farmers protests in Belgium.
I’ve just cancelled my xc40 order and had to reorder because adaptive cruise control and other items have been added foe free by Volvo
Are you sure adaptive is on the Plus now? I know they’ve added blind spot monitoring, alcantara seats & 19” wheels to the Plus trim but I see no mention of adaptive anywhere in the new MY25 listings. Also, they’ve now removed the 360 degree camera from the Plus trim too.
Check the configurator at Volvo for the full details.
Yep, no matter where you sign up once you have the car you can select the “main dealer” of your choice no problems whatsoever. I.e. – If you lease a VW car then you must take it to a VW main dealer and not just an independent say or Kwik-Fit. ?
Just had a look at one myself after much research & reading this thread. I’d already discounted it due to the boot capacity but my fold-up scooter does indeed fit upon trying so bingo! Sat in and seat felt great for me, which is rare as I can’t get on with most modern seats with their bolstering due to chronic nerve problems in my right leg. Out for a test drive tomorrow morning so hopefully will be good. Dealer said definite March delivery as cars built & in transport. I asked about blind spot monitoring on these cars & he said there wasn’t on those but they will have for those currently in build stage. Shame but no worries.
Currently have a Volvo XC40 on order but with all the problems they’re having on delivering new cars who knows when I’d get it hence looking around again. Hopefully it all goes well tomorrow on the test drive.
I honestly don’t have a clue whether what your dealer said is true or not.
However …
Regularly reading up on the “Bristol Port” thread on the UK Volvo XC40 forum I can totally believe it. There are people on there that ordered cars back in August/September 2023 that still have not received any proper (true!) updates on their orders. They have researched and found more accurate updates than Volvo UK or their dealer network have been able to provide.
I placed my order about a month before you did and I’ve had zero communication from my dealer so far, I doubt they have any information to be honest. Since Volvo UK changed over to an agency model a while back this seems to be the case. USELESS!!
Many on the XC40 forum have cancelled their order and have gone elsewhere. I test drove an Alfa Romeo Tonale today with a view of doing the same, sadly the seats were far too firm for myself. I could have taken delivery within 8 weeks otherwise.
Phoned my dealer this afternoon, no reply as yet. Fed up!!
Sounds good. I think your mpg expectations are probably realistic too. I’m coming from a diesel also & can’t say I’m relishing the probable mpg over my usual 60+ mpg on a run.
i think 3-4 months is highly optimistic sadly. Check out the “Bristol Port” thread on the XC40 forums for info on that. Customers have been waiting many months so far – I’ve already waited almost 2 months since ordering & zero updates on any progress, not even a build date as of yet. I’ve not had any good experiences of a Waylands group dealer over the years so it’s good to hear there is possibly one in the group that treats customers properly. ?
I’ve had one for 3 years, lovely to drive. The only time it’s been back to the dealership is for servicing. Mines a B4 Auto. The only downside is the average mileage over 19,000 miles is 28.5mpg
Oh dear, not good at all. My previous experiences with petrol engine Volvo’s has been similar. Last one was a T3 V40 and it was chronic, in the 20’s, until after about 3,000 miles & then I regularly returned 36+ mpg and up to 40+ on a run if driven like a vicar. ?
That said, when I took out a B3 XC40 back in December for a couple of hours I averaged 38.5 mpg according to the trip computer and I was slinging it about on the country lanes. It was mixed driving including town, B roads & motorways and ( for a Volvo!) I thought not too bad especially as the car only had 1,500 miles on it. I’ve always found they do loosen up a bit after approx 3,000 miles or so. Would much rather have the good old 2.0 D4 euro 6 engine though as I can easily get 60+ mpg on a run without even trying.
Yeah I was reading the xc40 forum last night regarding Bristol port delays apparently its full and they are moving them out very very slowly and stopped sending anymore from Belgium.
Hmm, the “3-6 months” timescale has returned now but who knows how long it’ll be?
Yes, I had a good read through that thread last night and some of the posters seem to have gathered some really good information together there.
I passed the car holding parks at Portbury docks the other day as I was going along the M5 and I don’t think I’ve ever seen them that full in all my years of driving past. Seems crazy that it’s just a matter of not being able to get hold of enough car transporters to take them to dealers though. ?
I notice as of this morning that Volvo have removed the expected delivery timescale from the configurator. It did say expected delivery “3-6 months” now showing nothing. ??
January 2, 2024 at 11:40 am in reply to: New Q1 AP Drops in Price ASK the Dealer for the New Lower AP #253262I’m in the exact same boat with the same car as the person in that post.
Emailed dealer requesting the 500 reduction, replied within 10 minutes and sorting it as I type this. Simple. ?
As the XC40 is getting a bit long in the tooth now, I’d expect to see some of the options become available on lower spec trims to keep up interest. Volvo have done this in the past – and it looks like they’re doing it now on the XC40 Plus trim to an extent. Either that or the higher level trims will come on to the scheme.
A reasonable chance especially with, as you say, the XC40 getting on a bit now, but Volvo have always been very half-hearted about Motability, so I wouldn’t hold your breath!
- Indeed, they have plenty of new stock available for quick delivery too but Volvo UK have decreed that Motability orders cannot be made for them & all orders have to be new build only & a 3-6 month wait currently. ☹️
Does anyone know if it’s possible to add adaptive cruise control to this car? thanks
As kezo said, no. It is only available on the “Ultimate” trim level which is a shame as it also has the blind spot monitoring too. Hopefully Volvo may add this in Q1.

December 20, 2023 at 10:58 pm in reply to: What would you like to see on 1st Jan / New Quarter #251938I would like to see a far better selection of decent sized petrol (and diesel for those that want it) SUVs and estate cars. I find it extremely irritating that the only decent additions to the scheme these days are EVs. Motability are NOT an environmental charity yet seem to behave like one. It’s good to see all the EV additions for those that want one, but this should not be at the expense of choice for those who either do not want an EV, or would find one to be impractical. Sadly, I think I will be disappointed.
This 1000% ?
With Volvo it looks like they’ve changed the digital services package slightly as the MY24 XC40 (and all Volvos I guess) now come with an included *4* year free subscription instead of 3 years, so another years worth.
Better than nowt I suppose. ?♂️
oil is down to $100 today will will see the price come down as fast as it went up?
I think we all sadly know the answer to that one. ?
@Huffpuffin I left the scheme last August, first thing you need to do is contact DWP/PIP and request a new “Certificate of Entitlement” as you have to have a new one every time you change your car (doesn’t apply for Motability) You will need a V62 in order to change the taxation class to disabled and can only be done at the post office, one thing to be aware of though is to NOT let the post office stamp the certificate in any way at all (the old type was good for 4 years and needed stamping every year, not so with the latest and any stamp will invalidate it immediately) as some P.O. staff still want to do this STOP them before they try, this way you can then use the same form every year to renew online.
I did the same as you last year and left mb after 15 years. The grief I had in getting my “certificate of entitlement” then was bad enough as they firstly sent me a *letter* of entitlement stating my PIP amounts despite me explaining clearly what I required. And now … guess what? Yes, I just checked my certificate of entitlement and it was stamped by the post office at the time! ??
my question is, can I still not just reuse it when I renew my free tax online? Tax runs out on 31/3 and I doubt I’ll get a replacement Certificate of entitlement in time knowing the efficiency of the DWP.
