I have been reading on the forum about people travelling considerable distances to different dealers to get deals on new Motability vehicles and just wondered what implications this had for then having the vehicle serviced or repaired?
It would seem that you don’t have to take your Motability vehicle back to the garage you bought it from for servicing, so can you take your vehicle to any local dealer, or does it have to be a dealer of the same brand? Could it even be a smaller, local independent garage?

Yep, no matter where you sign up once you have the car you can select the “main dealer” of your choice no problems whatsoever. I.e. – If you lease a VW car then you must take it to a VW main dealer and not just an independent say or Kwik-Fit. ?
February 13, 2024 at 12:36 am #258206You can order from any Motability authorised main dealer and still have the car serviced at your nearest main dealer. Personally I see no sense in not having the car serviced at a main franchised dealer. You aren’t paying and they know the cars best, use manufacturers parts, are aware of recalls etc. If the location isn’t convenient get them to collect the car and return it to you after service.
February 13, 2024 at 2:17 am #258208Main dealers are becoming fewer and fewer over time. Some of my local mail dealers are 20+ miles away and that makes for difficulties. Fine if they’ll agree to collect and return but some won’t. My local Ford dealer – non-motability car – is a good example). I’d be interested to know if Motability have any view on that? So far my not-quite-so-local Motability dealer is happy to collect and return. I assume there is a cost associated and Motability ultimately pick up the tab for this?
February 13, 2024 at 4:46 am #258211My last car was a Mazda and it was serviced by Renault after Motability authorised.
Back story, local Mazda dealer at top of road went bust. Mazda main dealer is an 80 mile round trip. Spoke with Motability and it was authorised.

If I understand you correctly (‘outwith’ is a Scottish expression that isn’t used elsewhere ?) your dealer does offer a collect and return service, but it isn’t complimentary? If that’s the case, I presume that Motability were happy for the cost of that to be paid for as part of the service? For many disabled people it wouldn’t be practical to have a courtesy car or to hang around at the dealership for hours.
