Ordered 1st week December 2023 and my car still ain’t built! Obviously, at this stage, I’ve lost ALL faith in Volvo as a company.

Question – How do you tell a dealer is lying?

Answer – Their lips are moving! 😵‍💫

** Clarification to my above statement

I don’t necessarily mean dealers lying to your face, I am referring to “lies by omission”. And after countless emails and phone calls I speak with authority on this issue. It’s ALWAYS what they leave out of their replies that tells you. Always!

I always use a Stopcock and a Faraday pouch.

        Your car has a “stopcock” ?? 😆👏👍

Don’t you just love auto correct spelling? 🤭 Jokes aside I completely agree with you on using a stoplock type device. People say “Yeah but thief’s can get around that..” etc which of course is true. But, unless you have something really fancy they’ll not bother and move onto the next vehicle. Criminals generally don’t like hard work.

I use the Milenco steering lock which I believe has one of the highest ratings on security. Takes seconds to apply. The one thing we all need to take into account is that if our car is stolen then how long will we have to wait for another? Way I see it a £60 investment I couldn’t do without. 👍

Thank you for posting that-very informative. However, the dealerships citing they are in the dark and don’t know what’s going on really doesn’t sit well with me. If the dealerships take orders, which they have-they are a Customer’s first and foremost point of contact-they should know and my gut feeling is, they do-but just don’t want to admit the issues we have all been suffering-it’s easier for the dealerships to say they are non the wiser-yet they are Customer facing. My opinion is, if, as they are saying, they don’t know-then it’s for them to find out for us!

          Exactly this 👏👏

Got there in the end Jen, so pleased that you’re happy with the car even though it wasn’t exactly what you ordered or were expecting. 😀👍

Cannot disagree with a single word you wrote there. Dealers are shooting themselves in the foot by not being completely honest with their customers. Most of us have faced half truths and, worse maybe, being ignored by dealers rather than give us the facts. Like you, I do not respect anyone that treats me in that manner no matter who they are or what the situation may be.

Like you, I’ve had a number of Volvo’s over the years and currently drive one but I doubt I will even consider getting another in the future due to all of this. The temerity of my dealer in the last email crowing the line “I’m not responsible for delivery times” etc being the final straw. They’re not responsible, true. But they should behave in a responsible and honest manner and keep the customer fully informed with information, no matter how little it may be, at all times thus providing an honest, open, respectful business relationship. Bare minimum in my book! [rant over 😁]

            Enjoy your new car! 😉👍

              Transparency? Honesty? Volvo dealer?

Should all those words be in the same sentence in connection with Volvo motability orders? 😅😁

As per Zero1, the B4 was never on the scheme , only the B3 in Plus trim. They both use exactly the same 2.0 petrol engine but the B4 has different engine mapping giving it higher BHP. 😉

Oh no, so sorry MrsL83, real facts have been hidden from us all x What do you think you will do? I’ve not seen that screen shot but expect mine to be a My25 now.

Hi, yes it will be 100% a MY25 car. See my last post about my reply (finally!!) from our “wonderful” dealer. 😖

Almost 6 months since ordering and NOT ONE single, unsolicited update from Johnsons Volvo Gloucester. How on ANY level is that acceptable service after ordering a £40,000.00 car ??? 🙄

Funny you should get that today. I’m still on hols & resent my dealer a list of questions I’d asked a week ago that he’d still not responded to and we’ve just returned from dinner and finally had an email back with him saying that it’s not he that’s responsible for build dates or delivery (oh boo boo Mr Dealer! Try waiting almost 6 months and finding out your order hasn’t even been flipping built yet!!) and I was given the exact same build date as yourself.

                    Clown show!!! 😡

I visited my local Volvo dealer last Friday after the cars had returned to the Motability scheme and had a very informative conversation with the Volvo Motability Specialist. He did not know Volvo Cars were back on the scheme so had to make some phone calls to Volvo to find out!! He explained that the delivery / order problems were due to an IT issue with Volvo which has now been resolved. Basically Motability cars are ordered on a different system which was not synchronising with the Volvo new car factory order system, this meant that after the Volvo Dealer had placed the order they had no way of finding out if the car had been allocated to the factory for production. He also stated that there were further delays due to the factory having shut for retooling of the 25 model year cars and would only be resuming production in late May. He also confirmed new factory orders are going to take 4-6 months for the XC40 Mild Hybrid and 3-4 months for the EX40 / EC40 Electric (Yes, even though it shows an XC40 / C40 Recharge on the Motability website any cars ordered now would be the new 2025 model EX / EC versions). I was also told that all Motability cars have to be supplied as factory orders. I would advise anyone without a definite delivery date to chase their dealer as there is a possibility their car may not have been ordered on the factory!!

                      Great info, many thanks! 🙏

UncJ and all fellow XC40 sufferers I’ve just received an email from our dealer with an advised build date 😳W/c 14th June and possible delivery July 9th July 😮 Asking what we want to do now 🤷‍♀️ Ordered 4th Dec so how can it take 6 months to get on the production line? Grrrr

What an absolute joke, a bad one at that!

Dealer told me projected delivery was end of July last week. I think that’s far more realistic than July 9th *if* the car is being supposedly built June 14th. I’ve got no choice but wait really other than find a stock car by another manufacturer and pay a £4K AP which I really don’t want to do on a car that I won’t own.

So, as it stands I’ll wait for now but in the hope Mercedes come back on the scheme and can get a stock GLA quickly. I think I’d have great pleasure telling Volvo where to stick it and cancelling my order if the chance were to arise.

The thing really bugging me, and you I’m sure, is how we don’t even get an explanation from the dealer how, like you said, we’ve waited since the beginning of December with zero updates and no proper apologies from either the dealer or Volvo at the shocking lack of service we’ve had. Bearing in mind the equality act 2010 and how Volvo have handled Motability orders as opposed to retail orders I’d say at the very least there’s serious concern. All we’ve been told pretty much is like it or lump it which stinks! 😡😡

Yes UncJ a friend of mine has a GLA and loves it, I do like Mercedes as a brand anyways I like all their cars.

I agree. I may have said before that I can usually bank on Mercedes or Volvo for a comfortable drivers seat for my needs with Mercedes just edging it. I’ve owned a couple privately as well as the older GLA on the scheme and loved them all. 😀

Dealer not replying to emails? Sounds sadly familiar with Volvo unfortunately. Still not received any answers to the direct questions I asked over a week ago from my dealer, colour me shocked. I’ve never had less confidence in a car order than I have now. So, thanks Volvo! 🙄🙄

Mercedes GLA is on the A class platform. But bit bigger than an A class hatch & rough same size as the XC40 so pretty good. We shall see what turns up from them, hop sooner rather than later.

It was myself that put up about Merc coming back. The email I received was directed from Merc as I own The GLA just now. I contacted Merc and they state that they are coming back on to the scheme but no more info has been released at this time. I then contacted my local Merc Garage and they said that its looking like it be next quarter. I have ordered a XC40 back in Jan but just like everyone else getting no info from the dealer or Volvo Direct. I am possibly going to cancel when Merc comes back and if the price is reasonable.

Ah great, thanks for confirming that. 👍

So I take it that’s the current shape GLA you have now? I had the previous version a few years back before I left the scheme and I liked it a lot. The only thing that let it down for me was it had the older 1.6 Renault petrol engine which had terrible economy on short journey & around town. Great car other than that. The newer 1.3 engine should be a lot better on fuel.

Yes, think I’ll be doing the same as you then in keeping my Volvo order and see what develops with Mercedes returning to scheme.

Yeah, I think that was one I seen which ended up being false information. I spoke to my old Merc dealership not long ago and they said there were no plans to comeback.

That’s brilliant news for you! 😀 Easiest way to tell the spec instantly is if grey cloth seats it’s a MY24. Black microfibre and it’s a MY25. To be honest I’d highly doubt dealers have any MY25 cars yet for motability orders as it’s only a few weeks since the factory would have been retooled so not enough time to build/ship/deliver.

Ive just been on the Motability chat messenger and this time they’ve offered to ask the Volvo account manager. This is a change from last week where they just said I could cancel. I was asking which model (my 24/25) I was to receive. see if they come back with any better info. Like a build date and maybe a suggested delivery 😀 can only wish!

Good, let us know how you get on. Personally I find it disgusting Volvo have been allowed back onto the scheme when they still haven’t sorted out the problems Motability removed them for! How can it happen that customers are getting cars before others like us who ordered maybe 2 months earlier and Volvo still can’t tell us what’s happening with our orders? ☹️

Sorry, but anything a Volvo dealer says cannot be trusted these days as time has shown. All they do is take orders & place them (hopefully!)

@nshaw Yes, with you on not getting answers to the questions you’ve asked dealer. All I ever get is a basic, non committal answer that largely ignores the questions I asked. I thought Johnsons Volvo were good at the start but the proof is how they perform when problems arise and they’ve failed miserably under that criteria.

I basically got back “it’s not my fault guv, it’s Volvo themselves.” Well, that maybe true but as a customer I expect far better so how do you propose to improve the situation?

Also, I think you should definitely get the extras removed from your fee if you get a MY25 car because they will be standard. Insist on it.

Just had an email reply from dealer and told now *hopefully* expecting my car at the end of July!! 🤬 Will it even come then? Fed right up and will now look elsewhere, ridiculous situation.

What a blow!! July??!! Did you decide to go elsewhere mate? Do hope you had a nice hol love, and nothing spoilt it 🙂

Hi, I’ve not decided what I’m going to do yet. It’s just so crazy after waiting almost 5 1/2 months and being told this. As I’ve mentioned before my main problem is the drivers seat and so few cars fit the bill for me but I know the Volvo seat is fine as I currently drive my own Volvo with the same seat.

I noticed yesterday someone posted an email they received from Mercedes Benz saying they’re coming back to Motability very soon and the email showed the GLA on it. Had the older GLA in the past and it was a superb car for me and found the seat even more comfortable than the Volvo so I’m thinking of keeping my XC40 order and seeing what happens. The cars are pretty much exactly the same type of vehicle with same boot size etc but the 1.3 engine will be far better economy than Volvo and the performance fine.

Only troubles is that Mercedes also operates under an agency D2C business model now just like Volvo so will have to see what waiting times are like. It’s been around a while and stock looks good. My local dealer has almost all trim levels on GLA’s showing as no more than a 14 day wait! But … will Motability customers be allowed those cars? We shall see.

Thanks for holiday good wishes! My wife is mad at me because I emailed the dealer and had the bad news so I’ve promised not to check my phone today or look at cars and just enjoy the sun. lol 😁🤣🤣

Ordered mid January now told expected May build and depending when in May, May have it June. I’m not expecting it just as I’m not expecting a MY24 despite my dealership saying that’s what I’m getting. Maybe, but can’t see how if the factory was retooled. Still hoping to be surprised and agree, am sure non MB customers don’t get the same treatment from Volvo. It all started so well and look now!!

Not sure they’ve answered my email asking about the same car they currently have there. Are you going to Mazda? There’s the Motability show at the NEC this weekend.

You can bet one thing, no way their retail customers are getting the same treatment that MB customers are.

I just feel like I’ve wasted 5+ months of my life on this and don’t think I’m willing to carry on waiting just in the hope a car might arrive. How could it be the car was expected end of April and now end of July? Has the car drowned whilst trying to swim the channel? Maybe that’s Volvo’s next excuse! 🙄

Just had an email reply from dealer and told now *hopefully* expecting my car at the end of July!! 🤬

Will it even come then? Fed right up and will now look elsewhere, ridiculous situation.
