I hope they didn’t charge her early termination as that’s definitely unfair in my opinion, I got charged £50 , they said it was lower because my needs changed as my new scooter won’t fit in properly.

I cancelled early due to a change in my needs, I’m getting £400 as it’s on the completed years they said, so if I’d kept the car for the whole lease of three years I would have got £600, and if it was one years £200, sounds unfair as it’s not your fault, but unfortunately that is motability’s policy is what they said to me , regardless of the reason your returning the vehicle .

@Richard, thanks for the info, it’s certainly an eye opener and explains a lot.

I was hoping the grandland would be here by the end of August as we’re going camping, not holding my breath though, might have to sweet talk me dad to insuring me on his XC90 haha, can’t see it myself, but I can make do with the qashqui, just means I’ve got to buy a roof set for my box, suppose I can sell it again after

That’s strange, my handback date says to be arranged with dealer, but then mine had come to an end as such cause I cancelled early to order another car

              1. @karl I phoned back in February and they said they were open, that was strange cause they weren’t allowed legally, but that’s not a worry.

So basically the look around and test drive were fine, then i went in and sat with the salesman, he talked to me like I was second class, I ignored it though and filled out some paperwork and he said he’d done loads of motability the week before, but he didn’t seem to know what he was doing,

we left thinking it was sorted and we ordered it in black, they phoned the next morning asking me to come back to sort out more paperwork as the forgot something, I left again after that and thought right it’s sorted,

then phone call next morning asking to come back because they forgot to take photos of my current car for motability! I got there and a different salesman came over with a tablet and we had to go through the whole thing of ordering again as the first one hadn’t got anything finalised,

so left again and got an email from motability saying it was ordered, I thought thank god for that, they told me they had the black one in stock and would update me, then next day they phoned again saying sorry the blacks gone !!!

But if I would except red it’s 100% mine, I excepted after a bit of a think, so they said it would be ready in 7-10 days, I thought ok great, as we got near ten days they phoned and said sorry the car sold already even though they promised me it was mine, then he said if you except any colour we might be able to find one in stock, by this time the messing around and way I was spoken too I suffered a near mental breakdown due to having serious mental health troubles anyway,

my wife phoned them and went mad, they weren’t interested in my breakdown and just went on about it’s a common situation and does happen, my wife said it wasn’t good enough , but again they just waffled talk of how we should be happy as their doing their best, and I should be lucky that their willing to find me a stock one, I wouldn’t of minded waiting but they had none of it, they told me the factory making the chips is shut and I’d be waiting months apon months so again they said they were doing me a favour and I should except any colour because of that.

All the time both me and the wife was talked down to and talked over! by this time I spoke to motability and let them know I’d had a look and fallen in love with a grandland x Sri nav, they phoned MG for me and cancelled the order, I phoned vauxhall and done the order over the phone in less then 20 minutes , I spoke to the salesman and the manager of picadors and honestly they were fantastic

Hiya,I’m so sorry to hear of your situation.

I’ve got the qashqui but a 68 plate, if the new 21 edition is anything like this one ,it will be fantastic! I love mine , but I needed a bigger boot for my new scooter, so this time I was going to go for the the MG HS, it was great on a test drive and with great amounts of techy stuff.

Unfortunately though the MG dealer treated me like I was second class and then messed me around so I cancelled, but it was a lovely car and couldn’t fault it.

I’m glad though it came to that as I fell in love with the grandland x Sri nav, I luckily have a good friend with one and their really nice, so I ordered a black one but it’s a factory order so the earliest I’ll see it is July and even then I’m preparing for a delay.

The Volvo’s attractive aswell , it’s a shame the XC90 isn’t on motability as my grandmother just passed and left my dad some money and he bought one, oh my it’s beautiful, so is the xc40 and as far as I know that’s on motability.

What you need to do if you want a car quicker is ask for what they have in stock, I’m sure you know that already though.

I am terrible for my OCD and I actually started researching my next car only six months after I got my qashqui haha,

I wish you luck finding the right car!

Thanks Mike , hopefully my new car turns up when stated now, although I have prepared myself for a long delay, so I probably will end up having to MOT it when it’s due, bloody pandemic.

I wouldn’t bother if there will be two months left, my previous two two were done within the final my current Skoda had to have but only because my Mercedes was delayed six months thankfully I’m picking up at eleven o’clock tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply, I did think it was a bit strange asking for one  before it’s due, although the way car delivery dates are, I can see it being delayed well past july

I had originally wanted the MG HS , so off I toddled to MG , I picked a black one they had in stock, to be called three days after to say it had gone but if I took a red one I’d have that one in ten days, again a phone call 7 days later to say that had gone, but if I took any colour they had they would find me another one, I gave up at that point as I had spotted the grandland and was fed up of being messed around (a lot more to that story) vauxhall did then tell me what I posted earlier above , but I’m happy to wait now, maybe next time I order in 3 years I might look around more for a stock car, I’m still very happy plodding around in my qashqui though.

Thanks Tim, my wife’s very happy, she said she would have had to watch me get so down mood wise, and to be fair after the trouble I had with MG messing me about, and then deciding I preferred the grandland anyway, this has lifted my mood very much.

I ordered my vauxhall grandland X three weeks ago, and have been told mid July , or a chance it might be a week or two sooner, but set my sights for the 15th of July, I’m fine with that, I was told if I was flexible with colour they may have had a stock one which would have only been a week or two, but me and my better half specifically want a black one, so it’s a factory build.

Thanks guys for the replies , I’m so glad I didn’t wait for tomorrow, I was lucky as I have a good friend with a grandland , although it’s a different spec , I had a good look round it and took it for a little run.

I actually done the whole order over the phone with picadors, only email I had to send was a picture of the qashqui , and the current mileage for some reason, but when I saw the ap had gone up I was feeling happier I’d ordered when I did, I know £499 is not huge amounts, but it would of ended up me having to look at another car and regretting having to choose something else, it’s put me in a really good mood today!

I’ve found nissan in Southampton fantastic, from actually getting the car, as I was new to motability, really went above and beyond for me, the last two services they valeted the car, collected and dropped off the car for me, they done the same for one of the recalls ,can’t fault them for anything and honestly felt like a VIP , nothing seems to much with them.

Well we’re getting a free car, so iv been told Theres been lots.of car dealers treated me a lot different because I said the word , sometime I don’t say the word they just see me and see my disability , by the way the word is motability . one time I remember of hand , it was BMW , it was last year COVID lock down just started I asked if I could try X1 and I asked what the car had as standard he didn’t even get out of his seat or look up at me I felt so embarrassed, ask if I could have a test drive he said someone would need to come with me and it would be about a weeks time total not interested because of the word ,,,, motability

It’s disgusting the way we are treated sometimes, my own brother told me I should be grateful I get free cars, and free money to cover the payments, obviously I don’t speak to him anymore, my parents don’t talk to him either, it really upsets me, it’s not a free car, we pay for it with money we are entitled too for our disabilities, but pig headed people will never change, I’m sure half of it is jealousy and the rest just plain nastiness. I try not to let it effect me but it’s really hurtful whenever any body looks down at me and treats me as a second class person.

I would need over two hands to count how many dealers have lost interest as soon as I say motability, they just go vague on the phone and then tell me they have to phone me back when the specialist is in, and you guessed it, no call, and if I phone back their always out or busy, at first I got so upset and cause of my mental health troubles very confused and very flustered, now my wife will phone for me and pass me on if their nice.

Would you believe one of the dealerships I went to in February were open, I went in to order a car, I got messed around so much I cancelled the order, but every other dealerships I spoke to said they were not allowed to be open, the were shocked when I told them I’d gone in and test drove a car, when they were not supposed to even let me in the dealership, but had done three times!

I am happy now though cause I’m much happier with the one I’ve ordered now

I went to kwick fit for them to check my Bridgestone tyres on the front of my qashqui, the edges were bald and no tread left on the edges whatsoever, but because the middle tread depth was fine on all the lines was quite deep, they refused to change them as the depth was 6mm, they said it’s just how the tyres wear and there designed that way!

So I got my friend from the rac to look as in the rain I had a lot less traction then normal, he said he’d get them changed if he was me, so I called kwick fit mobile, he came out and even said I don’t know why you need them changed but never mind I’ll do them anyway, he replaced them with some lovely Michelin’s, but now I’ve got two Michelin’s on the front, on the rear I’ve got one Bridgestone and one continental!

I’m sure the Bridgestone tyres are not supposed to turn into edges of slick tyres , not in my mechanics point of view anyway, but they were Adimant they wore like that, there done now though so I’m a lot happier.

I will put the grandland little engine to the test, I won’t speed though it’s more just, acceleration upto the limits, like coming down slip roads etc, my wife tells me off if I’m doing four miles per hour above the speed limit, which is fair to be honest, gone are my days of ignoring speed limits, I’ve had a clean licence for 20 years and will keep it that way

I wouldn’t worry, my qashqui has a key mark right down the passenger side doors (still think it’s a two faced jealous neighbour), I spoke to motability and the insurance as the car goes back in July, they said leave it,  I sent photos too and they said it’s fine and I should still get my GCB

I wonder if this will continue the drive (sorry) or the continual lowering of the max age of used cars in the future. We’ve seen for some time now the reduction in older cars as they break sooner or one expensive part fails & takes the car out and now with these tiny 3 cylinder turbo charged engines I wonder if they’ll get to a certain age/mileage & that’ll be it for the engine, Live fast die young so to speak. There’s been anecdotes of some of these tiny turbos doing just that dying quickly so I wonder what that trend will mean for used longevity, assuming ice cars don’t just get banned outright anyway at some point

I can’t see a three cylinder 1.2 turbo putting out that much power for long before things start to go wrong , I would of thought these little turbo engine that are being pushed to crazy power can be that reliable, I guess time will tell, but from a mechanics point of view I can’t see them having a lot of longevity

It’s not just you, Richy. I’ve only actually had 2 cars, a 2.0 diesel and a 1.6 petrol, and until last year I wasn’t even bothering to look at anything less than a 1.6. Now I’m eyeing up the newly arrived 1.0 Ford Puma Vignale as a definite maybe for next time. Especially as my previous favourite, the 176bhp Mini Countryman, is getting further out of reach Quarter by Quarter . . .

I was always a big engine person, I loved my Mondeo st220, but then finally after a few years of battling with DWP for my mobility side of things , I decided to move to a higher up vehicle as cars were getting to low to get into, so chose the qashqui, mainly because it was pretty and nil ap , it’s a lot of car for nil ap too, I could have gone for another qashqui, but fancied a change, the qashqui is 1.5 diesel, the adblue engine, I thought it was quite nippy to be fair, but looking at the specs the grandland is quicker, I do like my spirited driving (when the wife isn’t shouting slow down) , hopefully the 1.2 in the grandland is a bit nippy, although I do try to behave honest ?????
