I forgot my escort MK2 pop, that was great for donuts on gravel (I was 18 and silly haha)

Still love nippy cars , but with my spine the way it is , I can’t really throw the car round to much anymore ???

So many, my escort rs turbo MK3 , absolutely loved it , it was written off by someone rear ending me.

Sierra sapphire cosworth , again loved it so much, written off when lent to a friend.

Opel manta GTE , literally rotted out from under me.

I could go on for loads as I used to change cars like my underwear, I was a mechanic by trade and car mad from a toddler. Always had at least three cars on my dad’s drive , mostly being fixed!

Do you know the one I loved the most and kept for over 7 years, my 2.8 pajero! Oh my I loved that car, that thing could tow a twin axle caravan and it felt like it wasn’t even there, I could change the head gasket on it in four hours I kid not, used to blow a lot then I found a hairline crack in the head, £400 full new head including everything, literally bolt on and go, never a problem again! Would I love another one if they sold the same one same body etc ,but new oh yes , could you imagine if they had the exact same on motability, would be great! They are tanks , I had someone pull out in front of me and left a pajero shape in the side of their car, the pajero had a scuffed bull bar and that was it. I felt so safe in that car, unfortunately would you believe i sold it because I couldn’t afford the fuel. Would have another one but couldn’t afford the running costs etc

Anybody else like their cars nippy, I don’t mean Ferrari speed but enough power to easily have some decent pull? That’s on the list for me , not top five but it’s certainly up there.

Boot space is another one for me as not only for my scooter, chair and shopping, but when we go camping I need it.

Looks, isn’t high on the list but it’s up there somewhere, needs to look pretty.

Handling is up there, not for racing but I hate cars that lean all over the place in the corners , just because they tried to make the ride too comfortable, my current qashqai is surprisingly great in the corners, if there’s a lot of body roll I feel sea sick.

As mentioned reliability is right up there, I’ve had a recall that was done at service time, only time the rac have been called was for a bolt in the tyre , other then the engine light coming on very occasionally and turning off again (nissan can’t find a fault) the qashqai has done well for me .

Daughters have to be happy with the colour haha ?? they told me no blue cars , I’m out numbered by 3 to 1 in that area!

Some of those are obviously wants more then needs , thought I’d throw them in the mix though.

            Oops forgot one

Nil AP or as close as possible! I know at some point I’m going to have to put in a AP for what I want, but the qashqai I managed to get at nil AP and my current order of the grandland I got for nil AP , so hopefully come round the next time I can do it again.

              1) right height to get in and out with ease

              2) plenty of room, I’m 6’2″ , my son is 6′

              3) comfortable driver’s seat I can sit in longer than half hour without my nerves being more aggravated and my legs spasming.

              4) large enough boot for my scooter or chair plus some shopping

              5) reversing camera (can’t turn my head and shoulders round like I used to, it’s surprising how much I use it now)

Got a sixth and it’s the most important – even though it’s for me , the wife has to like it or its a no no haha

Well said @Rico ! I think this next car I get hopefully in July will be my last manual as I’m starting to have trouble with my left side due to spinal problems, but I can manage a manual at the moment and will be able to for my lease length (I do prefere manual) anyway what I’m saying is I would like to ask next time for help to get a automatic SUV as we need the size for various reasons which I will tell them about, hopefully they say yes , as to be honest I’m not in a position to manage an ap

@Richard , phone your doctor, that’s what I had to do, everyone I knew that were due them had been contacted, I had to phone my doctor’s surgery for the receptionist to say you probably aren’t on the priority list, so I said you need to check again, and she said oh yeah we sent you two texts three weeks ago , I said you bloody didn’t, so they booked me in on their system

Ours were not far away luckily , it was strange though, so the covid vaccine center is a building attached to the hospital, my father in law had his there and his second is booked there, I had to go into the hospital for mine not the vaccine center, the father in law had Oxford jab, and in the hospital I had Pfizer , then my wife being my carer we booked her in online the same time as the father in law but she had to go 12 miles further south to a pharmacy and they had a marquee on the side doing them, and her second jab is 15 miles in the other direction to a boots pharmacy, we were so confused, but it was all we could get and we wanted vaccinations sooner rather then later. Can’t believe their making you go that far , but to be fair to make sure I got my vaccine I would have driven that far, as I’m terrified of the horrible virus!!

Same as me @fwippers , I’m going to go camping in August hopefully, we do ha e cancellation cover, I have a nice new airbeam tent, (saves so many arguments with my wife from putting up frame tents) and easy as anything to put up for her. With the boot on either the qashqui or hopefully the grandland add our massive roof box and we’re all set! We are going with 7 of us , 5 in the car and my older two are catching the train down, I was brought up camping and honestly prefer it over abroad . Just hoping lockdown does ease and we can go

I was going to book manorca for a holiday in October, as a relative left me a little bit of money , enough to cover the holiday anyway, but with the having to pay for tests, and the danger of testing positive and being stuck out there for another ten days, we just cannot afford it, or to be honest the risk of catching any vaccine dodging variants , so instead we’re going to spoil our kids with clothes shopping, spoil my wife, and maybe myself a little

I think that’s why I get looked down at sometimes, I either dress in tracksuit bottoms and hoodie , or combat trousers , I’ve never dressed up for car dealers , even when I was working and bought a couple of cars with my own money, I walked in with comfortable clothing on, I was always met with a down the nose sort of look by some dealership’s, and others were fantastic. When I went to buy my bertone astra years back now, Hartwell’s treated me second class and I’m sure it was the shorts and t shirt (mid summer) , I went to picadors then , honestly I felt like royalty.

Trouble is I feel ready now to be treated differently, which is not how it’s supposed to be, when I went to nissan they were the very first dealer I went too, for my first motability car, I went in nervous they were going to treat me different, but he even said when I said I thought you were going to look down at me, that motability should be treated with great respect, not only are we great human beings for being resilient with our struggles we go throw, we are basically cash buyers , and whether I’m putting down nil ap or huge ap, it does not matter, we are all allowed to be treated equally.

I was so relieved, now after MG I worry about feeling second class again. But enough of that, my wife helps me a lot to try and hold my head high, it’s so difficult sometimes though.

I don’t believe AP comes into it, AP goes to motability I think.

Forgot to put , when I went to nissan for my qashqui , they were amazing, it was my first car (one I’ve got now) , the salesman talked me through everything from the very first step, but in a way I could keep up.

The manager checked on us too and was great, we had tea and coffee, then went a long test drive in one nearly the same spec (he tried but the adblu engine wasn’t out yet or something)

Then it was six weeks and we went to collect the car, we had to wait for about fifteen minutes as he was busy with some one, but the manager said because we had waited so long we could have a free set of mats! (It really wasn’t a long wait to me so I was chuffed)

Then because it arrived on fumes left in the tank, the dealer asked if I’d like to take the salesman with me and he will put diesel in for me, I said it wasn’t a worry as I hadn’t expected any fuel , but they insisted! He put 20 and I topped it off.

Through the lease they’ve been fantastic, and I often bump into the salesman at the local supermarket cause he lives a few roads away from me, he always asks how we are and how’s life treating us, before any mention of the car.

Only reason I didn’t go back is my needs changed.

Try and get as long as you can, see if you can talk them into a full day, if not a few hours at least.

As far as know the grants people send you proof in a letter that you have a grant and how much and you give that letter to your dealer as proof , then your dealer sorts it out for you

I wish I caught them in the act, I’m not very mobile as my spine is twisted well and truly at the bottom, but think I could give as good as I got! Maybe that’s wishful thinking but I’d definitely have a good try!

I’d probably be better off chucking the wife at them haha, ????

I was treated like sh*t by MG, just spoke down to me , rushed me to come in for three or four days (can’t remember brains out of whack due to mental health) promised me a black HS , then after umpteen phone calls all week (I kid you not) to be told if you except a red one it’s all we’ve got, treated me like I should be grateful for anything they offered, talked me into the red one, then told me ten days. Seven days later they phoned , I got all excited to be told nope we’ve sold your car to someone else, but because your open on any colour we could possibly find you one! I had enough by then and broke down big style as I was talked to like crap, my wife phoned and told them I had a breakdown due to the situation aggravating my mental health and bipolar, he laughed a little (honestly) and said we might be able to sort it cause you will take any car (we said we wouldn’t) he said well you better take any or it could be over six months for the car. Phoned motability they told me to cancel and find somewhere else ! Never felt so second class in my life till then, they basically told my wife I should be grateful for any car I get!

Bare with me cause I broke down I find it so hard to remember this experience totally, I’ve put it on the forum before so if details have changed on this I’m sorry , I’m racking my brain but my mental health is ruined from most of it and my memory is shot, sorry if it’s different to what I’ve posted before ??

Went to vauxhall in the end , never spoke to anyone so nice and accomodating from a dealer like they did, so ordered the grandland, no messing around , totally professional and was all done and dusted so quick. All done over the phone, I have driven one now (my friends Sri nav ) I love them, so I’ve ordered the black with black wheels!

End of the day if a dealer treats you like second class and sh*t don’t punch them just take your order away from them as they don’t deserve what is technically your money .

Phew typing that has even hurt my head as I am still struggling now with cognition ????

@Richard , your right it does stress you out speeding, I’ve slowed down lots due to how wound up I was getting on drives,

There’s a saying my dad uses when he used to be in the car with me

” Richy I want to get where I’m going ten minutes late not 40 years early!”

When he first said it I was like eh? Then I thought about it for a minute and got it, the other one was I’d ask my mate, when he was driving where the fire was when we’d be hurtling towards a roundabout at eighty .

I was never a good boy though , I will totally admit to that, it’s only recently I’ve calmed down a bit

Mike, I could but the other stores tend to be no different, not that I’m knocking the place I grew up in, cause honestly most the time it’s quiet and lovely, to be fair nothing else has ever happened to any of my cars, I had a few nice ones before my pip mobility came through, old ones but nice looking, and had a blue badge for years before I got this car which is my first car on motability, and it’s only a qashqui so it’s not like I’m lording it up ?

My friend on Facebook lives over Dorset way and told me he caught a little old lady doing it to his motability car one day, I was half in shock and I do have quite a sense of humour so we were both having a little giggle over it, he’d forgot to put his badge out that day, but she was sweet and appoligetic, apparently after he caught her, she payed for the repairs. But there’s still no need.

Maybe I should buy a banger for shopping with haha,

Isn’t it sad , because when my grandland turns up I’m worried it might happen again, and on black paint it would look terrible, my dad said are you sure it wasn’t there before and it was a disgruntled neighbour, I did check the CCTV and nothing occurred, and my wife was 99.9% it wasn’t there when we walked in the shop.

Isn’t it sad though that my neighbours are so blo*dy nosy and rude I have to lye and say it’s on PCP to get them off my back, they know I’m disabled and most of them know how it’s is and how it affects me, but I still don’t need the hassle of them thinking free car, with their narrow mindness they would too, I just want a peaceful life, can’t tell them to p*as off cause we’ve lived here for years in a tiny cauldisac so we are all really friendly, they all moan about my other neighbour that’s young and has a motability car, how she’s scrounging, I get peed off and start shouting and defending her, makes me wonder what they say about me.

Saying all this now I think I need to move somewhere else ?
