ajnSo as disabled drivers or drivers for someone disabled what are the 5 most important things you consider when given the go ahead to choose your transport..
For me..
1- auto transmission (£1000 on top?)
2- hight to get in and out?,
3- electric tail gate with flat boot space, electric front seats, heated were a bonus
4- reversing camera & electric mirrors,
5- auto hand brake..

LouHeight to get in & out with decently wide opening doors
bootspace (preferably flat) with electric boot and extra hidden cabin storage
heated seats (steering wheel would be an extra help!) – keyless would also be helpful
Reversing cameras front & back
adjustable rear bench

karen jSimilar actually ?
1.auto transmission
2. High driving position with comfortable heated seats and good neck support
3. Good mpg as I don’t like paying for stuff if I don’t need too (extra petrol)
4. 4×4 preferably due to the terrain where I live
5. Good adult sized back seats as my kids are tall.
April 26, 2021 at 3:02 pm #146671-Automatic transmission
-Height for entry/exit of vehicle
-Cruise Control (adaptive if possible but not the end of the world if it isn’t)
-Rear parking sensors
-4/5 door
Although I’ve ranked them in order, they’re not really in order as if any one of those were missing I’d probably cross the car off my list

ajn
April 26, 2021 at 3:36 pm #1466801) right height to get in and out with ease
2) plenty of room, I’m 6’2″ , my son is 6′
3) comfortable driver’s seat I can sit in longer than half hour without my nerves being more aggravated and my legs spasming.
4) large enough boot for my scooter or chair plus some shopping
5) reversing camera (can’t turn my head and shoulders round like I used to, it’s surprising how much I use it now)
Got a sixth and it’s the most important – even though it’s for me , the wife has to like it or its a no no haha
April 26, 2021 at 3:45 pm #146682
ajnYes Richy agree with 6th, seems us tall people loving the height, and ease entry and exit, auto transmission seems a must too
?
April 26, 2021 at 3:51 pm #146683
ajnThat’s a great point to @Lou nice wide opening doors, also @Karenj also same for you with the head height being important in the rear seats for you..
My Son is 6’2”, I’m 6’3” we both fit in the rear seats with a great rear seat head space..(when we go out wife driving, Daughter in passenger seat, us lads shoved in the back??)..
April 26, 2021 at 4:29 pm #146684
karen jhusband 6ft6 son 6ft 7!!! Daughters a more normal 5ft 8 and 5ft 9 ?
April 26, 2021 at 4:35 pm #146685
LouLol ajn my late partner and father in law would make myself and mother in law sit in the back and it weren’t the best/easiest. I think your wife & daughter have the right idea ?
April 26, 2021 at 4:38 pm #146686(1) Automatic gearbox
(2) Steering wheel ball with remote control
(3) Hoist
(4) Room in boot for scooter
(5) Electronic handbrake with auto-hold
Then all the toys if I can afford them. ?
April 26, 2021 at 4:52 pm #146688
Richard1. Auto altho at least EVs are evening that out I’d also lump running costs in as tied to transmission too.
2. Comfort, support inc heated bits & bobs
3. Rear leg/head room 2 teenage boys to accommodate 1 is a size 11 shoe at 14, plus if I’m feeling rough I need room to retreat whilst others drive also hate that hand on your hair feeling when it touches the roof.
4. Boot space for scooter etc
5. Gadgets like cruise control reversing camera
Further down list but also distance to dealerships & accessibility locally I have VW, MG & Nissan so let’s also a thing. So many you turn up & there’s no parking as customer parking is full of cars for servicing or new cars. Hyundai dealer last week had 2 brand new cars parked advertising them across both disabled bays.

TimThe Ssanyong Rexton will have to make it to my shortlist! Thank you, fwippers.
I’ll make a comparison to the BMW X1 in due course. I like to think the X1 has competitors but at this point I don’t believe that’s entirely true. Have you tried the iDrive infotainment on a BMW? The X1 reminds me of the proper models (think 5 series rep mobile). If the Ssanyong has iDrive and the air vents align with my political views then it could be a serious contender, however for now, reluctantly it’s looking like the excellent X1 is top of the list.
April 26, 2021 at 5:09 pm #146690(1) Automatic gearbox
(2) fully adjustable drivers seat
(3) iDrive
(4) Good device connectivity-Blue tooth-USB

ajnThing is we all have our certain needs and a few wants, but it’s great to have some humour too, just to lighten the stresses we go through dealing with disability it’s self.
Some great post’s with some humour to?.
Someone mentioned keyless entry Lou I think it was that’s a great help and the push button start for some I guess.
?
April 26, 2021 at 5:26 pm #146693
ajnI must admit the electric tail gate, remote or inside button is excellent both for me and Mrs ajn, some vehicles have a foot sensor under the bumper too, ok for some but care needed if in a wheel chair I guess.
