I’m curious on anyone car dealership experience. Usually when we look at cars, within seconds of entering the showroom, car salesmen are onto us like a flash with asking questions. Personally I’d rather be left alone to look and ask for help. Lancaster VW the sales man followed us around and stood with us while looking after saying we’re just here to look. Do others ever get frustrated with them? Also when we got our gran coupe on motability, the salesman said just because it’s on motability, it’s still the same for him weather it’s a motability customer or not. But I’ve seen some on here saying some salesmen aren’t interested when you mention motability.. what’s your experience with dealerships/sales people ?

My Merc is arriving on Tuesday and my dealer Mercedes dealer is the best Ive had so far. Although they have requested the AP on Monday I’ve never done this before, has anyone else had this?

Don’t pay the advance payment until you had over your PIN number Tuesday after inspecting the car

Only during the present lockdown,as showrooms closed,so done over phone, this ends Monday so longer need to do that way, as you can now go in again, maybe just being wary,as it is only day 2 opening on collection

My advice is once you are happy with the car, pay the AP in the showroom by bank faster payments. They will get it immediately.

Would you believe one of the dealerships I went to in February were open, I went in to order a car, I got messed around so much I cancelled the order, but every other dealerships I spoke to said they were not allowed to be open, the were shocked when I told them I’d gone in and test drove a car, when they were not supposed to even let me in the dealership, but had done three times!

I am happy now though cause I’m much happier with the one I’ve ordered now

My wife has just phoned a local Mazda Dealer to ask if they had a cx30 we could look at. The dealer straight away said, yes we have one here and he could arrange and book a test drive for Monday. Then my wife told him we were motability, his attitude changed completely. Ahh he said, no problem but I’ll have to speak to the manager and see if we have anything available. He said he’ll get back to us by the end of the day and let us know if he can arrange a test drive sometime.

Thanks for all of your replies, I have no intention of paying my payment on Monday I have no issue doing a bank transfer but I want to have a look at the car first. It just seemed a little bit odd that they wanted me to do this. Why would I want to give them my money before looking at the Carl? That seems a little bit stupid to me. Paragraph

Ah yes Jaro, welcome to the world of being a Motability customer!

I’ve been reading a lot in the motoring Press lately that car dealers are expecting a “boom” once the lock-down has eased next week. That will mean even longer waits for Motability customers. My new car was supposed to have been built on March 15th and “should” have been ready to collect within the next fortnight. I got an email from the dealer just this morning however, saying there’s been a delay and my car now has a “new” build date of April 15th and should be here very last day of April.

I already know that that date is in all likelihood b*llocks. I have been on the scheme for many years now – long enough to know that no matter what – the vast majority of dealers will always shuffle Motability customers at the bottom of the pack.

I would need over two hands to count how many dealers have lost interest as soon as I say motability, they just go vague on the phone and then tell me they have to phone me back when the specialist is in, and you guessed it, no call, and if I phone back their always out or busy, at first I got so upset and cause of my mental health troubles very confused and very flustered, now my wife will phone for me and pass me on if their nice.

Well we’re getting a free car, so iv been told

Theres been lots.of car dealers treated me a lot different because I said the word , sometime I don’t say the word they just see me and see my disability , by the way the word is motability .
one time I remember of hand  , it was BMW , it was last year COVID  lock down just started  I asked if I could try X1 and I asked what the car had as standard he  didn’t even get out of his seat or look up at me I felt so embarrassed, ask if I could have a test drive he said someone would need to come with me and it would be about a weeks time

total not interested because of the word ,,,,    motability

It’s disgusting the way we are treated sometimes, my own brother told me I should be grateful I get free cars, and free money to cover the payments, obviously I don’t speak to him anymore, my parents don’t talk to him either, it really upsets me, it’s not a free car, we pay for it with money we are entitled too for our disabilities, but pig headed people will never change, I’m sure half of it is jealousy and the rest just plain nastiness. I try not to let it effect me but it’s really hurtful whenever any body looks down at me and treats me as a second class person.

My MG dealer called this morning with an update, shipping problems blah blah, shortage of chips blah blah, we have had delivers but not yours , they had 41 vehicles delivered in 2 weeks, strange there was no mention of a queue when I ordered, now have a friend going in on opening day to see if he can test drive and order without mentioning the “mobility” word.

As I mentioned above; car dealers are expecting a boom when showrooms open up again in a few days time. They are going to want to fill those fancy showrooms with shiny new cars to entice the buying public. As the old saying goes: ‘You Can’t Sell Space’ – so lots of new cars will arrive for buyers to see. In the meantime, Motability customers will fall further & further down the pecking order. We know it. They know it.

The other factor (of course) is the fact that dealers know Motability have extended leases automatically on all Motability cars, like mine, that are overdue to be exchanged. Dealers will milk that fact for all it’s worth. We still have our current cars to run about in while new private buyers will be kept happy because dealers won’t want them leaving negative reviews about how long they’ve had to wait for delivery, etc.

It sucks… but that’s life on the Motability scheme for you!
