British Gas offered us a fixed tariff before our last fix ended last month. I decided not to fix as I’m thinking something will be done by the government regarding pricing, the projected increases in October and January as so extreme, people are going to be priced out of energy.

What about the weight of things like heated seats, add motorised adjustment and you’re talking a very heavy seat. What’s driving round with all these unused extras going to do for fuel efficiency? Remember the episode of Top Gear where they tune the Renault Avantime, taking the seats out made a difference.

I had this dilemma when my last Sky contract was up. I had the ability to get sports elsewhere but really like the Sky Q platform. I was thinking of a 4k freesat box as it could plug directly into current Sky Q dish. I did the maths, including paying for the new box and a decent VPN ,  I didn’t think it was worth the hassle. Got 58mb BB, Sky sports, movies, cinema, go, all channels bar kids and Ultra HD for around £59 a month.

Martin Lewis has sent me an email, seems energy prices are going up, up and away! They are changing the frequency of the price cap change from every six months to every three months so expect a change in January ’23 too. This is too scary, something has to be done.

Something will be done, lots of people simply can’t afford to hear there homes. Think of a pensioner or someone on Universal Credit. It’s getting to a point where the energy bills will be 50% of their income.

I’m sure I read Sunak recently spent a week in the USA speaking with big health insurance firms. Will this lead to privatisation of the NHS? Is getting private firms involved with the NHS a bad thing? My GP already sends us to a private hospital for scans.

The one thing I do agree may be a positive for Motability customers, is inflation and cost of living. They’ll almost certainly be less retail customers with people feeling the pinch. Will this mean manufacturers flood back to Motability, hopefully!

I hate having to get tradespeople in, the whole rigmarole of getting different quotes. I now just use the local government Buy With Confidence scheme (many local councils  Trading Standards departments administer it) to choose a trader. I was on the scheme myself when I ran my business and know they do genuine checks, not like the schemes which are all about making money.

I do remember paying a decorator to do the living room, I had to get him back after it had dried as it was streaky, I absolutely picked holes out of it. I’ve done my own decorating since.

I would think the MPG should go up, the MPG is based on the last few miles, it’s probably done a lot of stopping and starting. We have a 1L Skoda Octavia and it averages 45mpg round town and 65 on a long run.

Let’s hope it does and the rest of the UK use the example to demand the same.

Yes, and with the lack of new cars, the value of used cars is going through the roof so they are going to make even more money.

The thing I find annoying is the lack of a good deal if you want to buy your car at the end of the lease. You’ve paid £10k in PIP payments towards it, but they will sell it to a dealer who’s going to make a profit from it, for a far cheaper price than they will sell it to you. I think that needs to be investigated by the government.

W had exactly the same issue at end of last lease. Skoda said tyres were crispy and gave an advisory, Kwick Fit said no, I went back after another 1500 miles and they said no again. I think it’s down to the staff at the branch you go to and maybe how they are on their monthly targets.

                                                  Three major hurdles;

                                                  VAT

                                                  Charitable status

                                                  Credit scoring

All of which could easily be overcome.

VAT – Government already offers VAT free purchases on items for disabled people, extend it to cars.

Charitable Status – Let Motability stay but only handle the finance, transfer of PIP to manufacturers, they could also handle insurance and breakdown recovery. Allow them to make a little profit and raise charitable funds elsewhere.

                                                  Credit Scoring – See above

Motability have gotten too big and unruly, too many people taking a piece of the the PIP pie.
