I’m waiting for exactly the same Martinod.
I’ve extended my lease in the hope something comes on that suits my needs and I’m sure that in the near future when everything settles down, be it covid, chip shortage or whatever motability will be able to source BEV’s that will be suitable for most of it’s customers, might be a bit expensive at first but the price will come down, well I hope it does.
I’m really curious to hear about the apparent year-round benefits, as someone who has owned a few 4WD. Both permanent and electric systems.
It depends on where you live. I prefer AWD because I live in rural Shropshire with a lot of farms around me what with mud and cow s…? on the road even in the summer.
My main hobby now focus around building PC for people who want a high spec custom build. I enjoy helping them and advising on what system they want. From a basic desktop PC to a high spec gaming PC.[/quote
way over my head joss.
It’s always nice to hear about Sombody whose passion for a hobby can make it into job.
Very dramatic picture fiestared, I can see why the TV are interested.
Target shooting. I help run an indoor 25yd club one night a week and am secretary of an outdoor club that shoots once or twice a month on MoD ranges etc. our members shoot out to well over a mile (2000m plus). It can be very relaxing, my only problem is that with disabilities I can no longer lie down to shoot (or get back up again!) and have to use a portable table and chair, luckily my son also shoots and makes a great pack horse/general dogsbody
Other than that a very eclectic taste in music and movies
I’ve tried air rifles but I found the pcp a bit boring, the springers I thought was more challenging.
I might have to look into long distance rifles, it sounds challenging and fun.
Absolutely fine in bad weather. The instant torque is also controlled by how hard you press the pedal as well as the traction control, the extra weight being spread out over the floor of the car helps distribute it better than a bug lump up front. Then you can add in an app or a timer (most models but not all?) for preheating to make mornings more pleasant, if your lucky enough you can have a 4×4 EV which has none of the normal downsides of an ICE 4×4 like the extra weight, fuel and maintenance costs normally associated with a 4×4. 7 winters so far and I’d take my EV out every time before an ICE.
Cheers for that.
I’ve never driven a BEV or anything close. The reason I’ve asked is I live halfway up a pretty steep hill on a rural lane. The gritting is a bit haphazard at times, my X1 Xdrive can’t always make it.
Fastbike before I get involved in this thread can I ask if you are pro, anti or neutral with regard to EVs. I’ve no interest in getting involved in some sort of anti ev thread which, to be honest, are getting a bit tedious.
No it’s genuine question brydo. My next car will be a BEV if and only if a BEV comes on the scheme in the next 2 years that suits my needs.
Never tried motocross Joss, scared the crap out of me just watching it. So fair play to ya. Always been a road rider, and a massive fan of road racing.
Kawasaki kh 500 I remember it well, I’ve never rode one, but had a kh 250 which was bad enough.
The last road bike I had was a 2007 suzuki GSXR K7 which is the one that nearly killed me.
Well @NosherN I have been using Eco pro 95% of the time. So I am now going to try “normal mode” and see how I get on with that. Most of my driving is local and town, with a trip to Sheffield every week which is all motor way. Thanks for your insight on this.
Yep, I gave it a go this morning when I dropped the wife off. The dog banged his head a few times but I’m sure we will get used to it.
On a serious note it felt a lot better especially at junctions.
I tend to drive in eco pro 95% of the time. One thing I hate is the stop start, so I turn that off. I have noticed smoother pulling away.
I don’t mind the stop / start, but I don’t do a lot of town driving.
Very good info indeed NosherN.
Glos Guy. The first thing I do is put it into eco Pro, not for fuel saving but to soften a bit off the acceleration as I usually have my leggy dog (a lurcher) with me. It’s also quite good in snow.
August 3, 2021 at 8:49 am in reply to: Should motorway speed limits be lower when it’s raining? #160494I agree with you joss, driver’s should drive to the conditions.
But I can see in the not to distant future your car will adjust its speed automatically.
Really good value. But would I buy one, the answer is a no I’m afraid.
Brydo, maybe the title should have been what are your hobbies.
Thanks Glos Guy. I didn’t know that about the 2wd only having the 7 speed box. Shows you can learn something every day. The lumpiness might be the box, do you get it in the different drive modes? I do get a lag in eco mode occasionally it’s not a lumpiness as such just a lag.
Very good review Glos Guy. Interesting to read about your fuel consumption, better than I thought. Might have to reconsider looking at the petrol x1, my X1sport Xdrive 2.0 d is averageing 47. 1mpg over the last 3 years.
One point of interest I thought the petrol had a 7 speed auto box and the diesel had a 8 speed box?
Totally agree with you on everything you said. Seats do get better /softy as you use them.
Like the rest of the comments. Check the car for everything and check its the spec you ordered before putting in your pin.
Remember it’s your new car and enjoy the day.
Tesla seems to be doing OK despite the chip shortage.
Their was a quite few when I first joined the forum who where very knowledgeable and I enjoyed reading they posts , alas I can’t remember all their names but a couple I can remember. POPs and Joe London.
Well that’s strange, Fastbike1000. I was driving our soon to go back X1 today and thinking how much I liked the feel of the wheel and how the leather gives under my fingertips.
I think it depends on what model you have. The X-line felt it had a more give compared to my sport model , I have rheumatoid arthritis so I seem to notice more I suppose.
BMW x1. Steering wheel. It’s rock hard, hardly any give in it.
Got mine a week ago.
@Glos Guy to be honest BMW have been the only dealer to ever do handover with a decent amount of fuel (3/4 tank),Halliwell Jones Chester
The same with my BMW dealer Rybrook Shrewsbury. 3/4tank.
TOE NAIL?? haha
The first thing I would do is stick a bit of tape over the name badge.
Otherwise I’ll be yelling at everybody ITS A TONALE.
The HUD on the X1 is brill, well worth the extra outlay.
I’ve had my X1 3 years now and I don’t think I could be without a HUD.
One small niggle in very bright sunlight you do get a bit of reflection from the top of the dashboard which can interfere with the HUD. Doesn’t happen very often but it does happen.
