I’m on my fifth MB car now and the 5 AP’s have been paid via Debit or Credit card and only one insisted on the payment a day before handover so that got my Credit card for sure for the inbuilt insurance that comes with CC cards.
I have thankfully just about managed to avoid the grants system over the years I’ve been with MB but this case, not being the first of it’s kind I’ve seen here, sounds like MB are getting more and more like the DWP as the years go by and we’re supposed be thankful for the help they give should they offer any help at all.

July 3, 2024 at 10:28 am in reply to: UK cars will have to be ‘retrofitted’ with new ‘mandatory’ speed limiter #283799I have that in my VW Tiguan (Park Assist) however unfortunately I’ve never used it so can’t tell how I would get on.
80% of the time I park in Blue Badge parking spaces that have the extra width and find how park assist works is just too much trouble as you still have to do the gear changing and for myself parallel parking has never been a problem and more so with sensors front and back and I can park up and be done by the time I’ve figured out what button to press.
If it was something you need to use all the time then I’m sure it would become second nature and really would be helpful.
Sorry I can’t be much more help than that and one day I will test the system to find out just how easy it is. 😊
I have a MY23 VW Tiguan and We Connect Plus is for 3 years on this one.
While I sometimes use the VW Satnav for traffic information lately I’ve started to use TomTom via Apple Car Play so that’s not so important and the only thing I would miss when the subscription finishes would be the ability to see if the car is locked and no alarms have been raised from my smartphone.
I have the advance “Travel Assist” in my car and as far as I’m aware this is an onboard built into the cars system so should still work with no subs, I hope, but you never know for sure in these money grabbing days.
Let me see, your complaining that the rules for Scotland differ from those in England and Wales because of Scotland independence then go on to say “bring on independence”. 🤷♂️
I have a Lodgesons remote control on a steering ball to enable the use of indicators, main beam and horn using just one hand while steering the car.
Also have to use automatic gearboxes but that’s not an adaption in the eyes of Motability so have no help in extra cost involved with that even though as a disabled driver I can’t drive without it.
Vouchers for what??
Money off vouchers for walking sticks at Argos.😁🤔😒
Hi kezo
It’ fully automatic folding and unfolding.
I bought from an online supplier who’s prices have a great discount however this can cause problems if anything goes wrong with the scooter while under its guarantee.
I’ve bought two of these because her indoors has age problems with her knees from time to time. The scooters were boxed and brand new and while my first one has been 100% reliable over the year or more I’ve had it the second one had a fault on its first day out that required it to be returned. Although there’s no charges for returns they would not send another new scooter out until they could make sure the scooter had not been misused in anyway that meant another few days without the scooter.
Just one downfall of buying online I suppose but overall its been worth it in the money I’ve saved and have bought three scooters from them.
Yeah the PIP qualifier for Blue badges isn’t high rate itself its: A score of 8 points or more in moving around (cannot walk 50m) Or 10 points under planning and following journeys I think the confusion comes from DLA qualifier which is high rate mobility, this isn’t the case under PIP. I had similar I emailed my MP as it had been 6 months since I sent the paperwork in and they hadn’t even looked at it. He hot it done within a week straight forward renewal. However doing that probably isn’t going to help right now, obviously. They could fix all this backlog by just giving out decent length awards to those who aren’t going to get better or for whom there is no treatment ffs.
Sorry Rich44 we both posted at the same time but sure, its confusing with the HR application. Going back to the original post my S-i-L doesn’t have any DLA or PIP but her application was accepted on medical evidence.
Like Vinnie said you don’t need the PIP letter for BB but of course it’s a pain without it as its a simple case of automatic qualification with PIP HR.
Not any more, both my kids have a car on the scheme but can’t get a blue badge, even though one of them has had one previously.
That’s odd because this is how my local council word their application form though its a little bit out of date because it still only mentions DLA but that’s councils for you but this is the first line of the form….
You automatically qualify if:
you receive the higher rate mobility component of the Disability Living AllowanceI started my scooter years with a basic and cheap pavement scooter with the normal break into 5 pieces assemble and dissemble. It packed up after a couple of years.
My second scooter had suspension in the form of a shock absorber in the seats supporting stem.
Having now felt the difference even that basic suspension made I soon upgraded to a scooter with all round suspension and highly recommend having this in any scooter.
With MB cars getting so expensive for large scooter carrying ones I changed to an auto-folding scooter again with all around suspension, something that has only appeared last past few years, and use this to this day.
Advantages of the 5 piece scooters is the chair and its ability to swivel around and is the one thing I really miss, and overlooked, in my folding scooter but unfortunately is just one of many disadvantages of being disabled as we all know.
With my 1st (CareCo badged) and 2nd (Pride GoGo elite with seat suspension) scooters I struggled with 3 hatchback cars on MB and the assembling and dissembling methods and yes the platform piece with the tiller on can be a nightmare to lift along with the motor piece so think your mother will struggle with it as I’m, although unstable on my feet and only have use of one arm and hand I’m still strong in the other bits of me that do work and while lifting anything of that weight is hard, lifting to the height of a cars sills is out of the question for many.
Moving on I then had an Auto-Chair hoist fitted in my 4th car as it happened I was able to afford a slightly bigger car that accommodated the scooter fully assembled. That said halfway through that lease I changed to the all around suspension (Pride GoGo Traveller De-lux) and while both scooters where identical the all rounder would not go into the car without removing the scooters chair and assumed the suspension lifted the height a little bit.
The auto folder I use today weights in 16 Kg less than my 5 piece 42 Kg scooters and although I can just about man-handle (are we still allowed to say that these days) it into the car over time it would totally destroy the cars bodywork along with the scooter itself so I use an “Elev8” portable hoist that cost as much as one Auto-Chair hoist install but should last for many future cars but highly recommend if you want to try one of these is to check it out at a Careco store as it might not be suitable for many, in fact I know it isn’t. The Elev8 platform weights in at a manageable, for me at least, 11 Kg.
Update…
Sorry my memory failed me then but my 2nd scooter was the Pride GoGo Traveller Elite with the suspension in the seat while my 3rd was a Pride Apex Rapid with all around suspension.

I did an application for my Sister in Law last year who has no PIP at all but qualified with medical evidence of her not able to walk far from her doctor.
Don’t know if this is any good for VW’s but Screwfix do this one and also another that’s £20 dearer.
Just notice a lot of bad reviews for this about rain water getting into the unit.

ChrisK. Reason: just to add
For myself its not the fact of having the gear selector on the steering wheel stalk per se but in my case driving with the use of my right-hand only means, in the case of the new Tiguan, that I have to have a more complicate remote control, not to mention more expensive, on the steering to control the things that were at finger tip reach to the right of the steering wheel.
It’s just another case of simple changes to life making things more awkward for we disabled folk be it changes to our cars or having to use apps to pay for parking, its not as simple as it may appear to abled bodied folk. ??
Hi Glos Guy
That’s brilliant news and glad you’re sorted but could I ask what the actual wording is in the MB agreement statement is? I ask because I’m not sure the exact date that MB made these changes so I quote word by word my agreement to see if its the same as yours, BTW for dates my agreement started the last week of February 2023.
Agreement quote under the “Duration of Hirer” section…
“The Hire Term is for a minimum period of three years starting on the date of delivery of the Vehicle (the “Minimum Hire Term”), but continuing until either the expiry of the period of twenty four months following the Minimum Hire Term (the Maximum Hire Term”) or the date on which the Agreement is terminated in accordance with the terms set out in the Contract Hire Terms and Conditions (Ref T&Cs 01/22)(the “Conditions”), whichever is the earlier.”
Has the wording of this clause been changed?
I got two years to go before I face this situation and her in doors paid the £3.5k upfront AP and adaption under her conditions we keep the car longer than three years so would like to make sure I got it right so when you say “minimum term is 39 months with an option to extend by 24 months“ are you referring to the bit in the above quote saying “minimum period of three years starting on the date of delivery of the Vehicle (the “Minimum Hire Term”), but continuing until either the expiry of the period of twenty four months following the Minimum Hire Term”.
Not a legal eagle myself but that sort of suggests 3 year plus 24 months and I cannot find no other reference under T&Cs 01/22.
Of course if AP’s were to be a bit more reasonable in two years time all this would be academic but can’t see that myself.
I had one extra on my current car, cost £425 and the dealer asked me to cover the cost of the extra that I thought was fair enough as we can cancel these orders before delivery.
The price of that extra increased in price to £450 but only paid the £425 because that what was on the invoice at the time of ordering.
Both these things could be at the discretion of the dealer for instance in the case of price increases at the time of my order the manufacturer said in their T&C that the price was guaranteed at the order time price. Same goes for a deposit as a dealer may or may not asked for a deposit to cover the extras in case you cancel later and their under no obligation to order the extras so they could say no deposit, no order.
On my last car I was asked to pay a deposit of £500 to cover a £1K of extras but cancelled the ordered 5 months later due to slow delivery or late delivery times and the dealer stoned walled me for the return of my deposit for a car that I add, had not been built at that time. Had to get Motability involved to get the money back but don’t know if MB just thought it was a deposit on the AP or for extras, they probably didn’t know or care but got my deposit back a few days later.
It’s not a problem around these parts as folk can’t use the indicators while holding the steering wheel in one hand and the phone in the other and sort of explains why there are traffic jams when there’s not a lot of traffic. ???
I’ve not noticed before but checking after your thread mine have been removed too. Never really bothered me TBH and thought my licence was just changed from all cars to automatics only but it appears lots of other stuff has been removed too.
Still apparently I can still ride a motor bike or motor scooter but I’m gobsmacked to how I would do that with only one leg and one hand in full working order. ?
Just watched a review of it on YouTube gear lever is now on steering wheel
My current car is a Tiguan and love it being the best MB I’ve ever had, could have been bigger in the boot department with the Allspace being so expensive for low trim level but yes, that shifter on the stalk has put me right off having another Tiguan.
It seems this ideal is finding its way into other VAG cars so will need to look elsewhere in future with exception of the Golf, however I think that model is about to be replace by the Mk9 so we can expect the same with that model too. That said I had a Golf Mk 7 that I also loved but was too low for me and I struggled to get out of it.
My shed roof and the neighbours have linked roofs and we are about to take the corrugated asbestos sheeted roof to our local recycling yard at a cost of £44 or less between the two of us.
Quote from Bristol City Council web site…
Asbestos and plasterboard
Asbestos
Cost £11 per sheet or bag. We’ll accept up to 1 sheet or 25kg bags of bonded asbestos per week. All asbestos must be double wrapped in polythene and sealed with tape.
Maximum sheet size of 10ft (3m) x 4.5ft (1.5m). A sheet of asbestos is a small domestic roofing sheet or similar.
You must not mix bagged asbestos with any other waste. We can only accept cement bonded asbestos. We will not accept unwrapped asbestos.
I’ve only had one instance that’s anything like this and having two new tyres fitted to my MB car 5 months before end of lease the QF tyre fitter pointed out that one of my back alloys had a flat edge on it, probably from a pot-hole and they said they don’t do alloy repairs or wheel replacements so I’d need to go to the dealership who dealt with the car.
So as others have said your dealership is the place to go.
I don’t get too excited about new Motability AP prices ATM due to not renewing for a couple of years yet but yes I too noticed the welcome return of the Touran be it with a 200% AP price increase.
Its a funny thing the Touran as I was told by many dealers and those in the know that the Touran was discontinued about two to three years ago but thought it odd that it has still been in the VW configurator.
I think what the dealers should of said back two years ago when the Touran was my number one go to car is that its no longer available for MB customers and not told lies, that I repeat came from several sources at the time, that the Touran was discontinued, unless of course VW changed their minds.
I’m not sure about availability but seeing what’s going on in the market ATM that dealers are pushing at all cost for buyers to buy an EV because they can’t sell petrol cars unless they sell more EV’s so puts none MB customers at a disadvantage and back of the queue for petrol cars as there are plenty of none disabled folk who choose to drive what they want and not what the totalization governments of the western world what you to drive.
I don’t know about other manufacturers or dealers but I ordered my VW Tiguan in November 2021 that was delivered in February 2023 so about 15 months all told.
At about 6 months into the wait I thought it would be handy to add the variable boot floor to my order and was told exactly the same that it would put me at the back of the queue again so 6 months in gave it a miss but still waited another 11 months.
It never used to like this and you could always add or subtract from an order in the past as long as the car hadn’t been built but this seems to be the new world order or if you like straight bone idleness or if you like, can’t be assed.
In your case if it was February this year its not such a big risk if there was a chance of a delay but is it a gamble your willing to take.
Just wait until the Terminator arrives on the scene then we will be sorry. ?
