IIRC, the big three, Rover (or was it still Austin Rover back then) Ford and Vauxhall used to quite often do Motability editions. Definitely remember a Motability specific Escort Auto.
I concur with the diesel over the petrol.
Ordered my Tdi DSG Sharan soon as was able for a supposed July 21 change date. Salesman said realistically a good 12 weeks, I’m not expecting it before October if I’m honest. According to VW tracker it still with factory awaiting build week allocation and has been for well over a month.
Landyman, I doubt the new Defender will able to get under any current or even near future cap. Unfortunately I’ve only ever been able to drive auto so Series and Defs not an option (though I did flirt with a 50th anniversary V8 auto). Discos and Hippos, standard and tweaked for me. But if I ever have funds to spare then I’d build a 2a 109 hicab on galv with V8 auto drivetrain.
As others have said, I also would like to see pick-ups on the scheme.
Well if the Touran takes as long as my Sharan, don’t expect it to soon! Unless you’re lucky enough to get an order from stock of course.
Vinalspin, make sure you check out the Citroen and Vauxhall versions as well (unless you specifically want a Pug). Granted the Combo might not be quite as good a looker but when I was looking was significantly cheaper and let’s be honest, these vehicles are about the function, not the form!
August 8, 2019 at 8:07 pm in reply to: The End of WLTP and Motability New Car Warning (To Dealers) #84832So if the dealership gets a penalty from Motability, assuming it’s a financial penalty, will the customer be offered any of that I wonder?
Don’t all laugh, stranger things have been known to happen 🙂
Well as it stands there’s no such thing available on the scheme. Just getting an all electric small car is a miniscule choice. Think you might have to decide which means more to you, AWD capability or all electric.
Very much so. I’m going from a Tigers Eye Kuga to a Indinium (or something) Grey Sharan 🙁
Oh well, I’ll just have to have very bright fluffy dice! 🙂
I guess at a basic level colour and shape are very interlinked. Colour certainly does make one car seem much nicer than the same car though.
Looks is one of the last deliberations for me, once all the requirements and limitations have whittled the starting (long) shortlist down to the final short shortlist!
On a straight purchase 15k mileage wouldn’t be enough to offset the extra purchase price of a diesel. However, as most are aware one of the quirks of resale values (currently at any rate) tend to make diesel APs very favourable against petrol. So at least you don’t have that consideration.
City centre bans? I’m of the opinion that as most of these will/do rely on ANPR to allocate charges then (IMHO) the likelihood is road fund duty exempt registered cars only will be exempt, similar to many councils disabled bays now.
All in all, I think going forward if the vehicle you like at the price you like, is diesel then it’s still safe enough. I’m currently waiting for a diesel Sharan to be built.
Like most previous mentions, it’s not the time but the information. When I ordered the Sharan in late June the salesman said realistically looking at 12 weeks (at least I suspect). I’m ok with the Kuga so not bothered about waiting, but if I had issues and 12 weeks had been too long then I’d have appreciated the honesty. Wonder if I’ll get the Sharan by Christmas? Lol.
I’d include MPVs in the search as well. Still get the higher driving position and broadens your availability.
Excellent choice. I wish Ford would bring back Daytona Yellow and Purple Velvet, but that’s coz I’m old! Lol
I used to have an ’89 Camry Estate, wallowy old barge but so relaxed and comfy to drive.
It’s nice not to have to think about the depreciation hitting you at the end personally. It enables you to go for those wacky colours knowing you don’t have to sell it at the end! Luminous snot green anyone? : -)
Let’s hope it results in cheaper diesel then! : -)
