So as the whole ongoing admissions thingy me bob comes to an end I remember it by (We Lie To People) Motability issue advice to its dealerships, which Maybe of interest to some expecting delivery soon. especially those that don’t want to be collecting a 19 plate when assuming a 69 plate..
By September 2019, all cars (not just new models) must be tested under the RDE1 standard. We understand most models have been tested for both WLTP and RDE1 however there may be some disruption with new car registrations in September for models yet to be tested.
How will Motability manage new car registrations?
They will adopt the same approach as they did last year when WLTP was introduced, which means dealerships will not be able to register a non-RDE1 (or a non-derogated) car in August and hand over to a customer in September.Any vehicle registered on or before 31 August for handover from September onwards will be subject to a penalty by Motability to the dealership.
What should A dealer do?
they will need to identify any car that will be impacted by RDE1 and confirm with the manufacturer that it is a derogated vehicle. If it’s confirmed by the manufacturer that it’s not a derogated vehicle then they will need to contact the customer to agree one of the following options:
The customer can:
Swap their current order for a RDE1 tested car with a later delivery date. The car will be registered on a 69 registration plate and a lease extension will need to be applied to the customer’s agreement until the new car is ready.Take delivery of their allocated car on their end of contract date as planned. They should be made aware that the car will be registered on a 19 and not a 69 plate.
Please note a renewing customer cannot take delivery of their new car any earlier than the end of contract date of their current agreement.
These are the only two options available for a non-derogated vehicle.
