Fascinating thread, if a little of topic.

The thread title is “Just wandering” so it makes sense to slightly wander off topic?

        Thanks @Glos Guy.

        He certainly is!

Shame I can’t claim my pension. I’m 44, but my kidney will be 70 this year….surely that makes me old enough. 😉

Good point on the extra also any adaptions added too.I guess in the end it’s not entirely ‘worry free motoring’ in present times.

You’re right Paul. There’s no such thing as worry free motoring. For people on very low incomes, committing to sacrificing £10k of benefits over 3 years may present its own worries in the current climate. With almost every bill rocketing, I can imagine that there are a good many people who wished that they hadn’t, especially those who are new to the scheme and may have sold a cheap to run private car in order to have a shiny new car on the driveway. It might have seemed like a good idea when they ordered, but how quickly things can change.

Don’t forget the many people like me who have ridiculous DWP assessments and lose entitlement to Motability and end up with no car. So certainly not “worry free motoring”

Fortunately it happened just as my dad was retiring. He ended up taking a lump some payment which left him with reduced pension for the rest of life. I say “fortunately” but I still feel bad for accepting that gift from my dad. Not to mention 2 months after buying me the car, he gave me his kidney.

Up to about 6 months ago (perhaps a little longer), I would always see lease deals that were better value than Motability. Bear in mind these were DEALS that are often short lived. I never thought I’d return to Motability, it didn’t make financial sense, but I’m struggling to find decent lease deals at the moment.

The whole chairs are manual. We too ordered a premium plus model. Was told all A class CLA and GLA will have no electric chairs. I’ve heard today, not from Mercedes’, but something to do with these parts are from Ukraine and that’s the issue

You wouldn’t want electric chairs anyway….they’re lethal!!

That’s a great point about the AP and more of a worry now that APs are so high and a direct replacement maybe a year’s wait.

Motability pay for metallic, pearlescent, etc, but not special paints.

It basically translate as they’ll pay for the cheapest paint upgrade and any higher priced paints will be charged minus the basic paint upgrade cost.

                      No spare wheel question.

If you lease a vehicle without a spare (e.g. new Kia Sportage) and you need to use the repair canister, do Motability provide you with another one?

I really don’t like the idea of having no spare, especially if the tyre is too badly damaged for the repair canister to work. I guess you wait for RAC, but they don’t fill me with much confidence.

The relatively big gap of £1k Ap between the Hybrid 4 and Hybrid GT Line S would also indicate that the 4 is FWB and the GT Line S is the AWD model.

I think you make a good point there.

Bear in mind the very high first year tax on many new cars..

If a non-disabled person leases a vehicle, they don’t have to pay the very high first year tax on top of their lease payments do they? (Genuine question)   As it would seem very unreasonable for Motability to be the only lease company to pass on this charge up front.

I don’t consider it included then.

What the statement should read is “your road tax exemption will be used on this vehicle”, which is a lot different to it being included.

Can you choose not to have road tax included? I.e. if your privately owned vehicle is in a higher tax bracket than the Motability vehicle.

All the HEVs are listed as AWD on Motability’s website. The mpg stated on Motability’s website also matches the specs on KIA’s website for AWD.

I, personally, would prefer the 2WD. The mpg drops from 57.6mpg to 49.6mpg for AWD. The acceleration is also slightly less with AWD, although if the surface is wet/slippery I think the AWD would match or surpass the 2wd.

I’m still awaiting a reply from KIA about the rear light bar – i.e. is there a rear lightbar running from one rear light cluster to the other?? I’ve read reviews about it, but not see a picture of it, or seen it mentioned in the specs.

What happens if the car is taken off the scheme? Does he have to try and sell it to a private buyer?

I’m seriously considering either the GT-Line or 3 Hybrid. I’m leaning towards GT-Line as the plastic grey/silver trim on the 3 looks really cheap on the images and videos online. But as I haven’t seen one in person, I’ll reserve judgement. The worst part, in my opinion, is the grey/silver bar on the grille. I wonder if I went for the 3 in silver paint, the grey/silver plastics would blend in better?

My main concern with the GT-Line is the driver’s screen being smaller. Not only is it smaller, but it looks like the thick edge around the screen is in cheap looking plastic, rather than glossy black on the 3. The other extra tech in the 3 (e.g. heated seats and steering wheel) isn’t worth the inferior exterior look in my opinion.

Hopefully my transplant drugs will arrive early enough tomorrow so I get chance to visit a dealership.

27.5% of PHEVs had a fault in the previous 12 months. Although it doesn’t sound very good, it equates to around one fault every 4 years which isn’t too bad.

                                              Rene,

I’m not attempting to put forward an anti-EV/Hybrid argument, just posting some information that I read. I play BOTB most weeks and always play for EVs and Hybrid cars such as Audi Q4 and Volvo XC60 PHEV.

I agree that Tesla will skew the stats as they are by far the most unreliable.

Also, I did read that the faults were mostly software, rather than serious problems with battery or drivetrain. Which makes it worrying that these seemingly minor faults still result in the car being off the road for longer than petrol cars. This applies to both plug-in and hybrids, i.e. non – Tesla cars as well as full EV.

I would think that most people on Motability would be more concerned about how many days and occurrences their vehicle may be unavailable. Not whether it’s an expensive fault vs software fault.

As for the Daily Fail, I am no fan of theirs either, but don’t believe that they’ve made up the figures from the Which Survey.

                                                Hi @Rene

Good point about his car not being an EV. In fact mild hybrids did very well, plug-ins were also worse than petrol.

I wrote “according to What Car”, the data was compiled from Which? 2021 Car Survey for vehicles up to 4 years old. Sorry about that, I was still excited about Leeds winning that I mustn’t have been concentrating.

Unfortunately EVs are just over 60% more likely to break down than petrol cars  (according to What’s Car). On average they take over 5 days to be repaired, compared to 3 for petrol cars. They’re also more than twice as likely to get more than 1 fault than a petrol within 12 month period.

If I recall correctly, when the first Oxford AZ vaccines became available the UK ordered them early. A while later EU were trying to get our deliveries stopped and keep them for the EU.

If we were still in the EU, I believe that our access to Covid-19 vaccines would have been greatly reduced.
