Just popped out to stick the charger in and no joy, the charging port on the car is flashing red. Had a look on line and if it doesn’t remedy itself it needs to go into the garage. I’ve tried a couple of times and it’s still red. I will leave it overnight and try in the morning.
I feel a visit to the garage coming on ?????

I think your getting mixed up between plug in hybrids being “worse than petrol” and PHEV drivers not using them properly.
I drive almost totally in pure electric so technically it’s not an EV but I drive it like an EV.
Before it stopped working I was getting 148 mpg, better than a petrol 100% I think so.
Reading online magazines are a very good way to gather info, I do it myself every day, but you must think about how you use the info.

ReneFor starters, i don’t consider the daily fail as a reliable resource. For anything.
Secondly, this is incredibly misleading. Did you read this part:
“While the report painted an unreliable picture for pure electric models, Which? concedes that most faults reported are software issues rather than serious problems with batteries or parts of the drivetrain that powers the vehicle. This means most issues are likely with infotainment screens and other electrical features, such as reversing cameras.”
At face value, this already disarms your argument. But if you’re a bit like me, you’ll notice the language they used there.
“Which? concedes that most faults aren’t serious”. Does that not strike you as odd?
The problem with your statistic is that it’s skewed, and Which? does in fact admit it. The problem with the survey is that a lot of people drive a Tesla, for a multitude of reasons. The problem here is that Teslas are dogshoot. The problems with Teslas aren’t inherent to electric cars, they’re inherent to Teslas.
”
‘We also have to look at the ownership in the survey. Year on year, Tesla comes up as one the most fault prone, unreliable car manufacturers thanks to feedback from current owners – we’ve called on the brand for two years running to recall its Model S.
‘Tesla is also, by far, the most owned brand of electric car in our survey (its Model 3 was the most sold electric car in the UK last year, according to data from industry body the SMMT). This means any average measure of EV reliability is influenced by this brand thanks to its popularity.’”
So, no. EVs aren’t less reliable. It’s like arguing that petrol SUVs are unreliable because “Range Rover” exists. Take the, in every aspect awful, Teslas out of the picture and you get a different one. Indeed, yet again, Which? says the same:
“As more manufacturers release electric cars onto our roads (including models from Toyota and Lexus, which are long term leaders in car reliability), it’s likely that these figures will shift as the EV market truly establishes itself.”
As a suggestion, look at the What Car survey, which looks at particular cars rather than just mashing them all together. If you take the Tesla out of the equation, the numbers become noticeably different.
March 19, 2022 at 12:45 pm #180488Rene,
I’m not attempting to put forward an anti-EV/Hybrid argument, just posting some information that I read. I play BOTB most weeks and always play for EVs and Hybrid cars such as Audi Q4 and Volvo XC60 PHEV.
I agree that Tesla will skew the stats as they are by far the most unreliable.
Also, I did read that the faults were mostly software, rather than serious problems with battery or drivetrain. Which makes it worrying that these seemingly minor faults still result in the car being off the road for longer than petrol cars. This applies to both plug-in and hybrids, i.e. non – Tesla cars as well as full EV.
I would think that most people on Motability would be more concerned about how many days and occurrences their vehicle may be unavailable. Not whether it’s an expensive fault vs software fault.
As for the Daily Fail, I am no fan of theirs either, but don’t believe that they’ve made up the figures from the Which Survey.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

Sorry to hear about your car problems, unfortunately it does happen, however on the plus side get 45mpg + plus, just goes to show the vehicle has a very efficient energy recover system.

March 19, 2022 at 1:55 pm #18049727.5% of PHEVs had a fault in the previous 12 months. Although it doesn’t sound very good, it equates to around one fault every 4 years which isn’t too bad.
March 19, 2022 at 2:57 pm #180503I have many friend who have hybrid for many years some self charging some plug in, all having no problems ?
