I replaced my kitchen wall units, all of which had hard wired under cabinet 240V lights. I replaced all of my units except one, I now have a light and cable sticking out the wall. My wife wants to put a shelf with fairy lights or something similar all of which require a transformer. All of the lights I’ve seen have the transformer and plug combined. How do I link the fairy lights to this circuit so when the cabinet lights come on the new fairy lights come on at the same time on the same circuit?

Best advice I can give you is invest in a spark. Play safe with leccy

You can cut the plug off the fairy lights and connect the lights direct to the driver, but you must choose the correct driver, if you can get a picture of the plug on the lights you intend buying the output information of the transformer should be on there.
I’m assuming the lights are connected in series and the redundant light is the last one in the circuit, having only 1 cable, do all the other lights have 2 cables? It’s not as complicated as it sounds.

Marc thanks for getting back to me.The light is the first one from the switch not sure about the number of cables coming in to each light.
The photo of the fairy light we already have but will be getting another the same.

Hi Brydo so you want to connect your fairy lights to the cable you are holding in your hand?
March 17, 2022 at 3:43 pm #180304Yes Kezo that’s correct ?

Fit a 13A socket onto the existing cable but write/label print 6A max onto the socket where it can’t be seen when fair lights plugged in for aesthetic reasons, as suspect it’s coming off the lighting circuit. Then plug your fairy lights into it. You could also use a drywall box to flush mount the socket.
Is this suitable or were you thinking of something else?
March 17, 2022 at 7:02 pm #180330I didn’t want to have a plug fitted, was hoping to hard wire it direct to that cable with some sort of in line transformer, if such a thing exists.

March 17, 2022 at 9:38 pm #180339There is a photo above Kezo but if it’s not clear enough let me know and I will take another?

Sorry for the late reply Brydo had my fibromyalgia flair up this morning.
Ok I can read it better now. So I think what would be suitable for what you want is an Led panel driver. This will give you the voltage out you require as stated on the plug 31V DC.
I have found this at a good price https://www.amazon.co.uk/LEDLUX-30V-42V-Constant-Current-60X60cm/dp/B08DYB95GR/ref=asc_df_B08DYB95GR?tag=bingshoppinga-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80401889848623&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584001428411331&psc=1
Have you access to Amazon ?
March 19, 2022 at 11:30 am #180475So just cut off the transformer and connect wires to each end of the driver and we’re good to go?

Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.March 19, 2022 at 12:00 pm #180482Exactly mate, self explanatory once you have it in front of you. Hopefully once you cut of transformer and bared wires back you should be able to decipher which one is + and – (though doubt it matters with string lights)
Any probs give me a shout.
March 19, 2022 at 12:40 pm #180486Apologies for the late reply from me also, been working away from home this week.
The driver in the link kezo posted will be suitable, we have a static caravan and we’re here now, I’ve taken some pictures, just connect the 240Vac feed to the input and the fairy lights to the output, be aware that the output is dc, on standard fairy lights it should not matter which way + or – that they are connected as kezo points out, however if the lights are LED they will have to be connected in the correct polarity, LEDs will only permit current in one direction, so after connecting it if the fairy lights don’t work then switch the output wires around and the fairy lights should work.
Below is a picture of the driver, 240Vac in 24Vdc out.

My car SEAT Ibiza SE Tec 1.2 petrol TSI 2017.March 19, 2022 at 12:55 pm #180490This is a picture of the setup, there are four 24Vdc strip lights connected in parallel in the display cabinet, the driver is behind the fire and is controlled by a switch on the right hand side of the chimney breast, the output cable from the driver is fed through the cupboards below and comes out at the left hand side of the display cabinet and is run up the side of the cabinet in trunking with each strip light tapped off in parallel.

My car SEAT Ibiza SE Tec 1.2 petrol TSI 2017.March 19, 2022 at 1:14 pm #180491One of the options is to fit a pattress box, blanking plate and trunking. Screw the pattress box to the wall over the currently fitted choc block connector, attach a new cable to the chock block and run this out in trunking as an extension, you can put the driver where you want then.
