Looks like Éire is a couple of £billion better off as Northern Ireland do more trade with them and less trade with Great Britain.
Any benefits you have noticed for us?

Mike700 haven’t you been watching the news he already is a failure and a liar. He will hopefully be will hopefully leave No 10 very soon, although not by his own volition as he has no morals. I agree about brexit and people voting for it but the lies that we’re told by BJ, and his cronies, maybe mislead some into voting to leave the EU. Putin, and what he’s doing, has been a godsend to BJ as it’s taken the focus of him and his wrongdoings. He will be hoping that when this settles down people will have forgotten what he’s done or at the very least minimise them.
Labour , and the other opposition parties (where liars are non existent of course) could not win the political or economic argument at the election, nor can they now, so they continue to operate from the gutter, and if this goes on, they will never persuade enough of their previous supporters to come back!
Mid term election results and media driven attacks cause damage , but mean nothing in the long run.
A week is a long time in politics and a ‘weak’ Labour Party led by a weak hypocritical opportunist who is only high in the polls because of hypocritical media frenzy over what countless millions of the population were doing anyway – we all have seen much worse than Boris is supposed to have done, with many many people mixing during lockdown!
It is convenient for opponents to forget that this is the PM who had the major task of getting Brexit done as instructed by the electorate , who overcame all of the anti uk ,anti democracy plots and took the country out of the EU , in other words ‘respected the electorate’, which none of the other political leaders did, and who’s policies frankly ‘saved the economy and the country during the Pandemic, and the PM who ordered vast quantities of anti Covid vaccine, saving potentially millions of people- beat that EU?
Let’s also cut through all the huffing & puffing by some extremely deluded remoaners –
First of all, there was only one question on the Ballot Paper ie
‘Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union, or leave? ‘
Leave or Remain, no qualification was asked for, or required, it is only sore losers who have since tried to justify their loss by stating that there was confusion and therefore leavers did not know what they were doing.
Brexit, hard Brexit, soft Brexit, no Brexit, no deal, bad deal, good deal, all came after the vote and had no influence whatsoever on the vote.
Complaint – The consequences of a leave vote were not explained , well , every household in the country received a Government ‘Remain” leaflet which clearly and unambiguously set out the consequences of a leave vote.
There was no doubt, no question, the leaflet was explicit – ‘leaving the EU would be Armageddon ‘ yet the majority still voted to leave .
There is also no doubt that this heavily biased pro- remain leaflet persuaded and even frightened very very many people to vote remain, and had it been neutral in it’ s approach, it is more than likely that the leave vote would have been considerably greater ?
Every Political Party Leader , except Nigel Farage, supported a remain vote, every TV News station supported remain, and gave the political leaders exceptional amounts of air time and Anti ( the spelling is correct in this instance ) BBC has made a cottage industry out of being anti Brexit.
Complaints have been laid at the door of BoJo for not getting the oven ready deal done, but he has been hampered at every turn by the very same people who are complaining .
We have left the EU so lets stop here arguing over reasons why we left , Spilled milk remains spilled,, and it’s no good crying over it, it is far far better to look to the future, rather than standing over the rapidly drying milk puddle?
Enterprise will get us there, moaning will not!

February 27, 2022 at 1:11 pm #178888Mike I am not re fighting brexit I’m asking about the tangible benefits to “Joe public”, of which there are none. Wigwam listed a whole lot of perceived pluses of brexit, absolutely none of which will make a bit of difference to the man on the street. So when will we see the benefits and what will they be?

ajnAnything and anyone can be made to look bad, it’s up to the individual to make up their own mind, or simply follow the trend..
February 27, 2022 at 3:44 pm #178905@Wigwam Only things keeping me here are age and infirmities, both mine and Mrs T’s. Simply would not survive moving.
February 27, 2022 at 3:44 pm #178900If I recall correctly, when the first Oxford AZ vaccines became available the UK ordered them early. A while later EU were trying to get our deliveries stopped and keep them for the EU.
If we were still in the EU, I believe that our access to Covid-19 vaccines would have been greatly reduced.
Not saying that overall Brexit was good, or bad. Just answering your initial question.
February 27, 2022 at 4:13 pm #178913Sorry to here that @Tharg. My ex-wife’s parents sodded of to Spain after retirement while they were still reasonably healthy, despite not much money. They got quite a few good years in the sun and excellent medical care and both died there. The rest of the family weren’t too impressed at being abandoned but in their circumstances I’d probably do the same.

Good on them, their decision. Nowadays, Costa Rica is a good place to retire, sun, sea and cheap prices,
February 27, 2022 at 4:30 pm #178919It’s a beautiful place from all the YouTube videos I’ve watched. I’d love to visit Costa Rica.
February 27, 2022 at 5:20 pm #178924My eldest Danish grandson and his Mum spent 3 weeks there last summer – she was working.
He has some really great videos and photos of the different places – he wants to go back.

DafThe subject of this particular thread is advantages of Brexit. So far as expected none have been identified. It’s all very well referring to remoaners trying to re-run the Brexit debate but I’m sure we have a perfect right to question where the supposed advantages are. What we have seen in all its glory is the dishonesty and hypocrisy of many of the leading brexit leaders.
The fact is we are seeing that Brexit was a process set up by the corrupt rich who were alarmed by the social chapter and other progressive policies by the EU that threatened their hegemony. Brexit was always a big lie there never were any economic advantages to be had other than those that came with the watering down of regulations protection workers rights etc.
I’ll continue to wait to see any of the advantages of Brexit, but given the leaders of Brexit have shown themselves unable to differentiate between the truth and lies I dont expect any change soon.
February 27, 2022 at 5:45 pm #178934Wish we had been able to up-sticks just after retirement @Wigwam . Had it planned but family circ’s changed and was not an option. Both well north of three-score and ten now. Would still try for Spain, which we love to bits, but can’t even get travel insurance now because of Mrs T’s health issues. She had to have two life-threatening emergency operations some 18 months ago. Needs another couple now. We want it to be non-emergency. Had to wait most of those 18 months for two scans and one appointment with Consultant God. Another scan and appt with new Con’s God needed now. given up on NHS. Done equity release on house to pay for private procedure(s) – starting price is £25k, possibly rising to £50k, so, as I’m sure you can see, we are rather stuck here.

Hi Brydo,
My reply ( or replies it seems- shaking fingers ? ) was a bit of a ‘cover all’ in that some are clearly seeing the EU through rose coloured specs, and blaming Boris , and anyone who is an idle rich bassssd for promoting this Rich Man’s Brexit , whereas the truth is, that he carried out the wishes of the electorate , the majority of which, who voted to leave, were not rich, or even ‘well off’, ( and whether they were right or wrong in their decision, matters little) they spoke- he listened , which is almost unheard of, and highly commendable and btw, he had every right to campaign to leave just as others campaigned to stay .
Also, accusations of lying over the message on the big red bus have been raised, but he only promoted the message, not personally designed and painted it as some seem to think, and frankly it pales into insignificance compared to the remain campaign ‘ Project Fear is Us ‘- which is where the really disgraceful lies were generated – Spin and lies , absolute nonsense & promoting fear to the weak & vulnerable which got worse & worse as Freedom Day’ drew near!
I actually voted to remain, but changed my mind about remaining based on the disgraceful lies generated by Remain and Project Fear.
Brexit was , of course, almost derailed by the Pandemic, and it matters not whether Boris or anyone else was in no 10 , it was a double edged sword for any PM.and it will take much more time now, than originally envisaged for the benefits of Brexit to come to the fore
