Brydo
There are many questions members have about the motability scheme such as :-
Can I extend my lease?
Can I change my car before my contract is up and if so will it cost me anything?
How much is the GCB and will I get it if I have a few scratches?
What happens if I lose PIP?
If you have any questions about motability, then this is the place to come. We have many knowledgeable members only to willing to give advice. Many of our members have been on the scheme for decades and know virtually everything there is to know about the scheme.

A question from me, if you change your car before your three year contract, in the first instance you pay £50 penalty, for the second it’s £250, i think, is there a third penalty or is twice the maximum number of changes in this scenario?

I always love the give motability a call, they’re very helpful..
Problem with me hate phone calls, hate waiting, the whole thing of a phone call is a NOOO for me..
So some info picked up on here is a help, prefer email, never hear it mentioned though..😯
January 9, 2022 at 1:43 pm #173950i have use their contact form and have always had a prompt response even if its just a phone call to say they have passed it up the chain and it may take a while.

early changes should be only for real emergency need of change of car as you will only be allowed to do it 3 times as far as I am aware.

although I wish I had done this to get id3 tour last month before it was removed… reason for change early would of been your going to remove it and put prices up so extortionate that we would need a handout from the lottery for it.

I can’t use phones myself either. But I have had a quick response via email from Motability a couple of times. They couldn’t help with my queries and in one instance just referred me to the dealership, who I’d already asked and couldn’t help with my query… But at least the response times were good.

@brydo you can change car your car twice in a 7 year period. If the third car is unsuitable you can return it for a £250 fee but won’t be eligible to order a new car. Hope this makes sense.

@Michael thanks for that.

I have a vague recollection from some years ago that someone reported that they were in this scenario (several early terminations) and Motability had agreed to the early termination but wouldn’t allow yet another order so asked them to leave the scheme. This also fits with the one early termination we have done. We didn’t ask for an early termination, but as my wife’s condition had deteriorated and she was struggling with driving we asked if we could have hand controls fitted to our existing car. For reasons that I never really understood, they insisted that we order a new car. I recall the Motability agent saying that they wouldn’t count it as an early termination so that we wouldn’t run into problems should we ever need to do another in the future (again, it’s vague recollections, but I recall them mentioning a limit).
Whilst Motability are brilliant at allowing early changes when someone’s disability deteriorates, I think that they have their limits when it comes to people basically having a change of heart or not having done their homework properly. Seems fair enough to me. After just one year of our last Tiguan’s lease I couldn’t wait to change it as it frustrated the hell out of me, but I stuck it out for the 3 years until we could renew.
So, if you are having second thoughts about ordering a PHEV and not a proper BEV, it might be a good idea to decide that now and not take delivery and then seek another early termination 😉

I assume the financial penalty is to act as deterant to stop people doing it regularly. I could easily see a scenario where deteriorating health conditions could make changing 3times in 7 years a reasonably regular occurance.

I hadn’t seen your response when I posted Michael, but that would fit with my recollections. Good to know that I’m not imagining things!

I’d like to think that they’d make an exception in genuine cases, but I wouldn’t like to put it to the test!

I’m a bit like that with phones, so I always use their live chat option. Always helpful and very immediate.

Nice to know I’m not alone lux>looks & Markymate with the phone intolerance 😌
I have done live chat before the large gas company, took screen shots of every page, good job too, saved me £370, would have had no chance if that was on the phone..
Glad I’m

I returned my car 6 months early and was charged 250.. First time I’ve done it, is this normal?
January 9, 2022 at 6:32 pm #173979As I understand it, not only do you have a £250 fee, you also do not get a GCB?
January 9, 2022 at 6:43 pm #173980Mm5
Hi Mike to confirm I did receive a gcb, not sure on the exact amount if I’m honest as I don’t remember. Between 4-500 though
January 9, 2022 at 6:45 pm #173981Brydo
Mike700 I seem to remember someone saying you do get a GCB but it’s £100.
January 9, 2022 at 6:46 pm #173982Brydo
