Whilst China can be annoying. They’re going it right. They’re investing in electric cars and bringing the costs down. Their practices are a bit unethical at times but if they’re bringing cheaper cars instead of scalping us all at the cost of going green then so be it. Maybe instead of taxing the hell out of them, maybe the eu and the rest can learn some lessons from it and not think of their immediate bank balances.
china is driving down the cost to manufacture these. There’s a lot of lessons to be learnt from them.also to note, European manufacturers are also sending some divisions to china to be made there for export to Europe.
this is my opinion and I suspect many will disagree.

I went in and walked straight out of there. Went to Volvo and they were great so ordered straight away with them.
Hartwells in the past were amazing to deal with. Even threw in a few extras.I like sitting outside RAF bases all day pretending to be a photogramapher
Would love to see Land Rover. The new Defender 90 would be a great addition. Also the xc60 and xc90 from Volvo. long time Land Rover owner since 2001. Never owned anything else. Insurance rocketing along with ridiculous tax has forced me to join the scheme and leave Land Rover. I’ve chosen xc40. Closest I could get to the comfort I’ve had for 20 odd years.
I did have a look and 48hr extended test drive in the Defender when I was looking for a new 4×4 though I simply didn’t like its new rather plasticky feel and engine choice. In the end I went for an Ineos Grenadier – now that is what the Land Rover Defender should have been. Much more rugged, capable and comfortable, both off road and on. I still have an older Defender and a Series 3 in one of the barns – these were proper Land Rovers in my book.
I’d love a defender/series. Not the new one. Bloody ugly. But if it came on the scheme I might actually go for it. The shape is more like what the disco should have been, not the new sporty/evoque styles 🤮.
Don’t like the way JLR are going with all models being targeted at the luxury market. Full Fat RR is the luxury Land Rover and should stay that way. It’ll certainly be a sad day when my new car comes 😢I like sitting outside RAF bases all day pretending to be a photogramapher

Thanks for the replies. @elliot, I think you are right. @anarchy21, interested to know what dealership you’re dealing with if possible. Would like to use it against them on Tuesday.

The Conservatives if re-elected remain “absolutely committed” to a reform of disability benefits, Rishi Sunak has insisted as he urged claimants not to worry about having their support cut. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/other/pip-reforms-will-continue-if-tories-re-elected-as-sunak-vows-back-to-work-drive/ar-BB1nQYTV?ocid=msedgntp&pc=U531&cvid=ebe0883e3fed441daa4ec42e4aabe59e&ei=123 Hopefully they are wiped out come the GE!
Labour have also said they want to reform it too. They welcomed the green paper. Whomever gets in is going to mess with pip.

That’s not right. Volvo are doing mine. I take my documents for the registration to my dealer just before the car gets delivered. I pay any fees of course.
I’ve had my own plates made as they’re short ones. They have to get plates made when registering the car so I don’t see the issue. If all else fails with your dealer you can do it on your online account with Motability after you collect the car.

I don’t understand it. There’s MY24 stood in car parks at the docks. MY25 literally rolling off the ships straight onto transporters to dealers.
The 24 was one reason for going Volvo, it’s not a deal breaker not having it, but we can’t change order now if we wanted to pay for it as would end up costing a fortune with new ap.I like sitting outside RAF bases all day pretending to be a photogramapher
Yeah the lack of 360 camera is a real pain. If we cancel and pay for it it would be another 6 months odd and have to pay the new extortionate advance on it. One of the reasons I went for the Volvo over cheaper cars. Could never afford the new ap!

Just called my local Toyota garage, their wait is until august. By then I may get the volvo, don’t know if to jump ship or wait 🥴
You can ring round other dealers if you don’t mind travelling. Some will pick you up within reason if you explain. I’ve found that to be dealer brand dependent. Ford, Land Rover and Volvo have done this in the past near me. Although Land Rover was a private sale.

Luckily I’ve got a car, but its mot is due on 12th July. I’m hoping I get a definite delivery date soon as my mot will cost a fortune this year as it’s on its last legs and not worth really putting it through. Insurance was more than what the car is worth. Shame as I really like it.
It’s weird how some people get build dates and some don’t. I was called a few weeks back with a delivery slot of early July. They said they don’t know build dates, only delivery slots, and they’re always on time for their slots. 🤷♂️

Yes you can use the £750 towards a different order. Just make sure your current order is cancelled before ordering.

@nshaw @Uncj did either of you put a cash deposit down at Volvo? I put £500 down as he said all Volvo dealers ask for this to have the car built. So my AP is 1499£, minus 750£ new car P, minus my 500£ so on collection id just pay £249. Just wondered if this was the norm x
I never put deposit down. Dealer said everything is done on the day.

Had a few mercs in the past privately. Seats are decently comfy. The gla I had as a hire car last year. The boot won’t get a folded wheelchair laid down. Kept hitting my head when reaching to close the door. Just wasn’t for me. Volvo beat it by a mile for my height and high enough to get in. Coming from a Range Rover where I can jump in. Be sad to see her go.

Hi anarchy21, can you post a link please ? Thank you.
I’ve seen some on the Bristol port delay thread and various other sections http://xc40forums.co.uk
some of the Facebook xc40 groups also showing April orders and may delivery. 🤷♂️

Seeing a fair few April orders on xc40 forum being delivered and people getting delivery dates of next few weeks. Assuming retail by the looks of the screenshots

I never knew about the 10 points part. That’s crazy.
from gov.uk
“If you have any score other than 10 points under descriptor E, in the ‘planning and following journeys’ activity of PIP you may still be eligible for a Blue Badge, but you do not automatically qualify. This includes if you have a higher score of 12. You will have to provide evidence to demonstrate your eligibility which will be assessed as part of your application.”

Thank you all I just applied through non pip route. Didn’t know it existed. Let’s see what they come back with
My current badge was through the non pip route. Got 5 years on it when it came through. Went 9 years without one as didn’t know it was a thing.

Can anyone confirm if it’s usual to have to pay £100 deposit when ordering a car
some dealers do ask for either the ap or a deposit that is to be taken off the full amount due when collecting the car.
I like sitting outside RAF bases all day pretending to be a photogramapher
Bloody good job they don’t charge us the new Advance Payment price. Lowest AP is now £3499.
Definitely keeping order. Have thought about cancelling but nothing else fits the bill. I don’t mind waiting, just the longer my car is on the road the more it’s going to cost as needs work for mot in July.
Regards the MY24 vs 25, I’ve been told 25s are coming in with 24 orders and I will more than likely get a 25. It is a shame as the 360 cam was a huge selling point considering i have restricted neck movement. Don’t even think it can be added later.Other cars I’ve been keeping an eye out for is the new Dacia Bigster and Ford Explorer. Although the Explorer is nothing like the original 🤦♂️ and is a slimmed down electric version.

It’s funny how some get build dates and details about their cars production, whilst others just get a message/call saying “it’s here and this is when you can pick it up”

I’ve had one update from my dealer. Rang two weeks ago to say that he’s got a sheet of incoming deliveries and mine is July.said it could be sooner, depends on a lot of things. That’s all I’ve had but I know it can take a while so not bothered asking them. My last car on Motability in 2005 took 9 months and that was only a focus.
It would be nice to have it in July as my current car has its mot in July and due to insurances and tax for the damn thing can’t afford it anymore. Not to mention the repair bills in the past two years. Being a Land Rover I’ll say no more.

An update from the XC40 forum by Moss who lives in Belgium and regularly sees what’s going on at Zebrugge. He said:- The docks in Zeebrugge (i.e. the car parkings) are well over 85 % full indeed, but not so much of Chinese cars. Most if not all of the European auto makers overproduce at the moment, and they use the parkings also, which means that most parked cars are in fact European. The good news is, according to some Belgian media, that the problems with car transport (trucks and drivers) are mostly solved now, so delivery should soon be swifter, even to the UK (to a certain degree due to the remaining import and paperwork problems). So, sounds a bit more promising… hopefully. 🫣
My stepdad has been driving them off the ro-ro daily for months at Immingham, there’s a huge car park of them (and other makes) and also one at Grimsby docks filling up with Volvos. My dealer that I drive by daily seems to be changing stock frequently 🤷♂️
