There are many questions members have about the motability scheme such as :-

      Can I extend my lease?

Can I change my car before my contract is up and if so will it cost me anything?

How much is the GCB and will I get it if I have a few scratches?

What happens if I lose PIP?

If you have any questions about motability, then this is the place to come. We have many knowledgeable members only to willing to give advice. Many of our members have been on the scheme for decades and know virtually everything there is to know about the scheme.

Quick question, does anyone know why you can’t drive to Morocco anymore with a motability car. It’s only a 30-45min ferry from Spain. Does anyone know the reason they removed the whole £29 a week while in Morocco and other countries like turkey

It may be because when the UK was part of the EU, those countries formed a frontier with the EU and thus covered by a so called ‘Frontier Insurance’  third party liability bolt on. It was useful for EU residents living near the frontier (and EU tourists visiting the area) to temporarily pop over the border.

Since Brexit, those countries no longer form a frontier with the UK (as the UK is no longer in the EU), so Frontier Insurance is no longer a thing in the UK.

Brexit – the gift that keeps giving!

Hi. If you are Four years into a Five year agreement, which was originally a Three year but got extended, would you be able to return the car before the Five years is up?

If you extend the lease beyond 3 years, you can cancel at anytime after the original 3 years is up.  We extended and saw a car we like after 4 years and 2 months, we signed a new deal and didn’t need to see out the 5 year extension.

I’ve got a 69 plate Motability car, how long have I had it for? I can’t work it out. Is it 5 years now? I can’t get hold of Dwp to ask for confirmation of my allowance to choose a replacement car they literally dont answer the phone, they have my pip review form for nearly 6 months now. I think I’ll just hand my car back and leave the scheme.

                what a mess

My current car expires at the end of July but can order my replacement from end of April.

What is the situation if the car I looking to get is in stock.

Will I be able to change anytime after the 30 April or would they have to hold the order to July 30th?

                    Thanks guys.

You will  have to wait untill July 30th, unless your willing to pay an early temination fee!

Sorry if this isn’t the right thread/reply section but… car was delivered February, DWP payments haven’t changed apart from new financial year increase. Surely something is amiss?

I’d have thought payments would have being taken by now, if you collected your car in February.

You should phone them on Monday, they’re probably gonna want it all back as an overpayment and you’ll end up owing them thousands if it’s left too long

How much is the good condition payment, just took my car back today, I’ve had it for 4 years and 9 months, the dealer said I would get £250 back, but I thought it would be more for having it longer than three years is this correct.

The amount you receive depends on the length of your agreement. It’s currently £250 for a three-year lease and £350 for a five-year lease.

                                    Hi All.

Just a quick question. Placed first order on motability yesterday, had already set up the online motability account and we provided the proof of entitlement letter at the dealership.

They mentioned we should also get another letter from motability confirming entitlement and if we get one to send this over. We can’t seem to find any information on this though, everything we can find just says it’s the benefit entitlement letter that’s needed.

Is there another letter we should have?

Motability will send you a letter with a PIN to enter on the day you pick the car up. Entering the PIN agrees/signs the contract, so don’t enter it untill you have checked the car over on day of collection.

Maybe give Motability a call and ask them, what they mean.

Hi, just a quick question on insurance.

we are looking to get our first motability car. Just been chatting with friends and one of them said that if you have a motability car you lose all your “no claims” after 2 years.

does anyone know if this is right?

                                              Technically yes you do!

However you can ask for driver claims history form from Direct Line Motability insurance, which, depending on the insurer you use should you leave the scheme, will give you an equivulent entitlement in NCB.

It works basically the same as ex company car drivers.

I lived in Spain for 18 years and had insurance with Linea Directa, the Spanish arm of Direct Line.

When we returned to the UK a few years ago I tried to get UK insurance companies to recognise my Spanish no claims bonus but, Nope, they wouldn’t entertain it, not even Direct Line even though it’s the same company! It’s a con! I had to start from scratch & it cost me a fortune! Insurance can be obscene!!!

I had company car for 22 years before retiring, I’ve also been a named driver on my wife’s car for about the same length of time and named driver on my daughters mobility car. I’ve never made a claim in over 40 years of driving, but when I retired 2 years ago and handed my company car back the best I could get was 1 years no claims bonus as a gesture of good will. Thinking about it though I hadn’t had a car insurance policy in my name for 22 years.

some dealers do ask for either the ap or a deposit that is to be taken off the full amount due when collecting the car.
