My Dad worked as a Motability specialist for several dealers over the years and according to him, Motability customers can choose any colour they like without charge regardless of how expensive it is. His advice was to speak to Motability who could then remind the dealer of this policy.
Unfortunately your dad is wrong! Indeed I had an argument I lost once where Motability would not let me order a car with the cheapest colour available (hard to believe but linked to AP and residual value)
That’s a lie. I ordered an Audi a3 , which arrived this year and i ordered Daytona grey for free
I would suggest the two dealerships are handling the paint differently rather than someone telling a lie! Sometimes (but rarely) a dealership will either suck up the paint cost or even possibly get it wrong. We have an A3 in white and there was a lot of discussion regarding the colour and whether it was on the scheme!!
The question has already been answered but all that can be done is either go to a different dealership and try there, or try phoning motability.
To be frank while for some colour is important, I really dont care as long as the vehicle does what I need and hopefully they can move on with a different colour without to much stress
As a side point we have used two different Audi dealerships this year and both have been amazing

Well I was on the side of EV’S until I saw how bad the infrastructure is in uk I was even thinking of getting one but now glad I got my petrol Mini. You guys if doing long Journeys need to check out The MacMaster on you tube video of his mate Jeff who bought a Diesel car on facebook for £2600 and it was a BMW and MacMaster Porsche Tycan EV and the nightmare and stress he went through on a trip To see in an honest way if he could beat his mate in his BMW, and a trip from John O’Groats to lands End and guess what Jeff won. Out of order charges too many charging and the grid could not bear the poor infrastructure and the cost unaffordable for most of us unless you charge at home on cheap tariff and do not go very far.
I would suggest that the story has been well told and we all know that a battery will run out of charge and therefore need recharging, this really is not breaking news!!! There will always be people up for EV and those against, using the word SCAM is frankly ridiculous!!November 2, 2023 at 4:48 pm in reply to: Exploring Cars in stock rather than waiting 7-8 months #241391Not so long ago Motability Operations were setting up a pilot area of the website showing only cars immediately available. May be worth giving them a call to see if you can join . If you don’t like the answer you get the first time call back later. It is sometimes the luck of the draw as to how much the call handler you connect to knows.
Pretty much an impossible task, even dealerships struggle to keep up to date and there is a need for Motability to have a link direct into the manufacturer system to enable this to work. It is definitely a great idea but the nature of the challenge means it will never happen. Ready to Go was a trial BUT with a very limited choice of cars. Best solution is a bit of leg work ourselves 🙂
November 1, 2023 at 2:37 pm in reply to: Exploring Cars in stock rather than waiting 7-8 months #241236Audi have an excellent online stock availability site which we have used twice in recent times to find a car with immediate availability – Once from Exeter Audi and Once from Hereford Audi. Both dealerships were excellent.
October 28, 2023 at 6:14 am in reply to: Motability car written off, can’t afford new car. What are my options? #240421If the car is written-off, then my understanding is that the car would be replaced under the insurance policy with a ‘current like-for-like’ model. From my policy, under ‘Market Value’, “The cost of replacing the Vehicle with a vehicle of the same make, model specification, mileage and age, and which is in the same condition as the Vehicle was immediately before the loss or damage which is being claimed for.”
If Motability car is written off your current agreement ends and you have to order a new car and start again. You get a pro rata refund of any advance payment BUT do not get any money back for extras you may have paid for whether factory fitted or fitted after delivery.
Shout out here for Audi Exeter and Audi Hereford both of which treated me like royalty. Hereford even gave me an Audi Peaked Hat!!
Motability gave me the reference number off the V5. With that and the V750 I went to my Citroen dealer to have the plates done and they even rang Motability for me tell them the new reg before I left. But to confirm the V5 request button also not showing on my account either.
Thanks, I will call them tomorrow
I am just embarking on private number plates, I firstly spoke to MB and they confirmed that I just had to request the V5c and then let them know once the change was completed.
I logged in and found the V5c request and submitted it, however so far its not been received so I quickly checked the ‘Current Lease’ page and the V5c button is no longer there *see image. I am wondering whether its disappeared because I have already submitted a request, or whether its disappeared for everyone. Could someone possibly take a look please?

Yep easiest thing to do, just make an appointment and saves driving there and either waiting for ages or not being able to get problem sorted. I have found my local quickfit amazing, on two occasions recently they have fixed a problem and one involved taking the tyre off my sons privately owned car, cleaning the rim and refitting it all at NO cost!!
I once had an Audi dealer remove the badge on the rear, it was a high powered 3L Quattro and I didn’t want the local yoofs knowing, but that wasn’t a Motability car. I purchased a replacement stick on badge for when I sold the car, but it was stolen before I sold it. There are a few valid reasons for removing the badges.
Apart from maybe this reason on a privately owned car WHY? I almost fell off my chair when I read this question, just imagine what the press would make of it :-). In some ways it was funny, while browsing the forum I went from someone who is struggling greatly to find a car big enough for their various mobility equipment to this question! Oh well I guess we all have our own priorities.
October 18, 2023 at 7:22 am in reply to: Skoda to charge buyers extra to use features built into car #238932Audi do the same, it works well for me. Still get a high spec car and I can add on any of the few additional features as and when I wish. Most of the features can always be added when the car is being ordered which will then of course mean there is no need to add them in the future, but this will come with an upfront cost.
Its the way car manufacturers are heading (and a lot are doing the same)
Hi , Iv just been awarded mobility and not sure of the whole process . I was told by the garage that the waiting time is around 6 month after ordering the car , but could take longer . So I just want to ask what was your waiting time for your first mobility car ? thank you in advance .
May 2023 = 7 Days from day of deciding to move to Motability to picking up the car. Audi A3 S Line, but was pretty flexible with what car we had and not bothered about colour or any extras and no adaptions required.
Oh yeah ? I’m going back to sleep
Ha yes I must be bored looking this early in the morning!!
Is this for under 25s though?
OP asked about over 25’s ?
Yes that was the point I was making because the quoted post appeared to be about under 25 rules

They are rental instalments rather than monthly payments. So full allowance relates to 13 four weekly payments each year, hence 39 payments over three years

He doesn’t fit in an Audi A3, he’s tried. With due respect a big car with a maximum of 120bhp isn’t really on.
I am amazed because I am same height but obviously if he has tried then only he will know.
120bhp is plenty of power for all the cars listed and will take a full car to max speed limit pretty quick (I have driven the Skoda with an auto box and it goes well). We will have to agree to disagree about that one?
I think what he is saying is that he wants a Motability car which is big, cool, fast and with lots of street cred (rest assured I do understand)

They don’t take into consideration where the disabled person needs a larger car but the only driver they have is under 25.
Recognise that challenge but unfortunately its the way insurance works. Risk is calculated using a formula and whether or not the driver is disabled is most likely a factor not taken into consideration (if it were it could affect policy either way dependent on stats).
I think its based on a flatline cost on each of 50 groups, where Motabibility agree a base price for regardless where you live in the country and also taking nto account a certain number of penalty points. Somewhere in all this Motability have agreed one price with the insurer for under 25’s to drive up to “x” group and “y” bhp on a take it or leave it basis, with no optoin for under 25s to pay out of their own pocets to drive sa a maximum of 3 groups higher.
?
I would not be surprised if they tightened the criteria rather than relaxed it, having said that there are currently some great choices of car for under 25s. Obviously the challenge comes when there is a need for a large car due to disability, and because of the way insurance works (in the case of Motability statistics based on 18 – 25 year olds rather than a combination of age, address, job etc) I don’t think there is any answer to that.
Interesting but helpful

August 28, 2023 at 12:43 pm in reply to: Toyota RAV4 hybrid suddenly takes over steering, causing accident #231408I find it very difficult to comment further without sounding very negative.
The accident happened some eight months ago, with the car scrapped! So almost impossible to defend any charges which I am surprised have not been sorted by now in any case.
As I say its impossible to comment further other than to wish Diane the best.
