I think it depends on the actual retailer. My local BMW retailer was more than happy to debadge our previous X2, however, my local Nissan dealer outright refused saying “You need to speak to Motability but I don’t think you can. It goes against their policy and I don’t want to get into any trouble”.

Motability cars:
2015 RR Evoque AWD 2.0 TD4 SE Tech - written off
2017 Toyota CH-R 1.2T Dynamic CVT AWD - written off
2019 BMW X2 2.0L Sport
2023 Nissan Qashqai e-Power N-ConnectaOctober 19, 2023 at 12:39 pm #239188I once had an Audi dealer remove the badge on the rear, it was a high powered 3L Quattro and I didn’t want the local yoofs knowing, but that wasn’t a Motability car. I purchased a replacement stick on badge for when I sold the car, but it was stolen before I sold it. There are a few valid reasons for removing the badges.

Apart from maybe this reason on a privately owned car WHY? I almost fell off my chair when I read this question, just imagine what the press would make of it :-). In some ways it was funny, while browsing the forum I went from someone who is struggling greatly to find a car big enough for their various mobility equipment to this question! Oh well I guess we all have our own priorities.

AnonymousWho is to say you put the car theough a car wash an they fell off. You sometimes get a bad bach of stuff an they selectivly fall off..for no reason at all…

SonnyWe had a mini countryman many years ago and rear badge deletion was a no cost factory option so we chose not to have the large spaced out badging on the back. That might have been why BMW had no issue doing it.

Fastbike1000The BMW X1 I had previously was de-badged at the factory and was a no cost option. I just felt it looked rather untidy at the rear with the badges.
October 25, 2023 at 1:03 pm #239923The main reason for debadging imo is to not highlight how powerful a car is compared to lower power siblings.
Are there any cars on Motability really that powerful or don’t have other give aways that it an entry level car ?
There again if I had a car with a slogan like “Build Your Dreams” across the back it would almost certainly get debadged before I drove it of the forecourt!!

AKXI have had my cars debadged and tinted and it hasn’t been an issue with motability, it’s only when you add on parts or modify them different to what it came stock, even then if you do extra bits as long as the car is returned as it was picked up from the dealer there is no issue.

Ian DurantNo unless its a factory option otherwise you would need permission from the owner (Motability) if others have did in the past or other modification they without permission it might not have been covered by Motability
October 26, 2023 at 11:44 am #240069Interesting thread as I had always assumed that the only reason that people de-badged cars was because they didn’t want people to know that they had the base model (even though those who know the type of car will be able to tell in other ways) ? I’ve never done it myself, but I am told that it is easy to do. You heat the badge up and slide a piece of cotton thread behind it.
October 26, 2023 at 2:59 pm #240109I think it depends on the car. I took them off my old VW Tiguan because they looked awful and there were so many of them plastered all over the boot. Looking like the ioniq 6 will be my next car in a few weeks and those are hideous, the one on the bonnet is like a dinner plate so that is either getting wrapped black or painted the same as the body colour to hide it and the same with the rear one as well. Personal choice i suppose they only stick on so pull em off i did. Sure that might upset the motability police but i personally dont care.
