Radblu<p style=”text-align: left;”>Hi all, I really hope someone can tell me more. I had an accident with my motability car recently and unfortunately it’s been written off. I just recently extended it to another 2 years as I couldn’t afford an AP at the moment for a enw car. I was recently involved in an accident and it’s been written off. I currently have a replacement car that will have to be returned next week.</p>
I can’t afford an AP at the moment for a new car. What are my options? I have been through the motability grants and they say its means tested, I have a feeling I will not even qualify. - CreatorTopic

Well, apart from being successful with your AP grant, then it’s a choice of a nil or very low AP car or leave scheme…choosing a nil AP vehicle will hopefully allow you time to build up your AP pot for next your next car.
Thankfully there seems to be a better choice on nil AP than there has been for a while.
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
October 25, 2023 at 8:10 am #239887You will also get the £750 new vehicle payment, which gives extra choice should you not qualify for a grant.
October 25, 2023 at 11:26 am #239906With respect, and as Abercol pointed out, there are NIL (0) payment cars on the scheme – just because you’re on the scheme doesn’t mean you have to go for a car with an AP.

RobertWhat type of vehicle did you have and what are you looking for.

106 cars with zero AP currently on the scheme.
303 cars with AP below £750 if you use your New Car Payment as the AP.
Hopefully one of these might suit your requirements.

You’ll receive this payment when you get your new vehicle, if you order your first vehicle before the end of 2023.
If you were already on the Scheme before 1 January 2022, you’ll be eligible whenever you get your next vehicle.

CraigHi speak to motability I have been on the scheme ten years now and I have just had to quickly order a car this year to get the £750 off, motability told me it’s definitely finishing this year.

Well I hope that isn’t true. I have been on the scheme 30-odd years and due to order my next car in January.
I shall be both gutted and annoyed if, what you say, is true.

Its not entirely true and only applies to people who get their first car 🙂

CraigI don’t understand can someone confirm I had a proper argument with motability because I didn’t want to order this year they went and checked and came back to me apologising saying it was true,
I even had to get a loan because I couldn’t afford to do it this year.
i don’t exactly know what’s happening.
October 26, 2023 at 1:58 pm #240104The CURRENT status is that the £750 for first time customers is due to end midnight Dec 31st 2023, for continuing customers it will extend beyond that date.
I spoke to a dealer who was convinced that this would change as we got nearer to the end date as “they’ve far too much money in profits already”. However, I wouldn’t be hanging my hat on that outcome.

RichardIt’s all over their website as on above link that the money continues next year for those of us already on the scheme.
As has been evidenced before there are those on the end of Motability phone lines who need a details diagram to show them the difference between their ass and elbow sad to say.
For advice if trust most on here over the average phone answerer at Motability. It gets better when you get to the next level I have to say they do have some great people working there.
Motability are either going to have to cut APs or come up with a better money scheme as the profits they’re sitting on is getting ridiculous.

AnthonyIf the car is written-off, then my understanding is that the car would be replaced under the insurance policy with a ‘current like-for-like’ model.
From my policy, under ‘Market Value’,
“The cost of replacing the Vehicle with a vehicle of the same make, model specification, mileage and age, and which is in the same condition as the Vehicle was immediately before the loss or damage which is being claimed for.”October 28, 2023 at 6:14 am #240421If the car is written-off, then my understanding is that the car would be replaced under the insurance policy with a ‘current like-for-like’ model. If Motability car is written off your current agreement ends and you have to order a new car and start again. You get a pro rata refund of any advance payment BUT do not get any money back for extras you may have paid for whether factory fitted or fitted after delivery.

CallmejohnI appreciate and agree with what Keep has demonstrated, however I was also told only last month by a Motability advisor that the £750 offer only runs to the end of the year, but could turn out to be extended and she knew fine we’ll I have been on the scheme for Over 35 years leasing (39 years in total). They really should know better.
This example shows that it is not fully true that we as Motability customer’s get free insurance and servicing, as the car is insured for Motability, but not fully insured for us as we do not get a replacement car, (as we would normally get a cash pay out from a private insurance policy), as our contract ends and we may apply for another car, but only if Motability accepts our application again.
