HarryDoes Motability still run a BHP limit for us over 25’s?
I see the new Mini Countryman is out next year but it will be 215 BHP which im sure puts it over the limit Motability force on us or did when i got my last car. Has the BHP limit been scrapped or we still subjected to it?

Combustion engine – you can have a vehicle with an maimum ABI Insurance Group rating of 16 and a max of 120bhp. With EV’s, an ABI Insurance Group rating of 21 or below andย a max of 140 bhp.

The EV’s certainly seem to be ignoring the limits, a few of the more powerful ones are;
Kia EV6 GT Line AWD at 321BHP
Skoda Enyaq 80x at 261BHP
Hyundai Kona at 201BHP and Ionic 5 at 225BHP
Previous Motability Cars
2006 - 2009 Skoda Superb VR6 2.0tdi
2009 - 2012 Citroen C5 2.0tdi VTR Nav
2012 - 2015 Nissan Qashqai 1.5dci tekna
2015 - 2018 Ford Kuga 2.0tdi Titanium X
2018 - 2021 BMW 220d X drive 2 Series Active Luxury
2021 - 2023 Hyundai Kona Electric Premium SE

Is this for under 25s though?

OP asked about over 25โs ?
Yes that was the point I was making because the quoted post appeared to be about under 25 rules

I often put my glasses down and can’t find them, so this excuses all error’s I make now or in the future ??
Did you mean 220bhp? So the new Countryman should be on the scheme?
No “200+bhp” which includes anything 200bhp and over.
No it does not mean the new Countryman should necessarily be on the scheme regardless of bhp. It like me saying the BMW X3 should be on the scheme but, its not and not likely to be!
The Mini JCW may still be on the scheme though
Ya all confusing me ?

HarryThe Countryman has been on the sceme for years since i got my Clubman back in 2018 and was defo on the year before while deciding which car apart from when it was too hard to source them during and after covid but defo back on now. Why would you not expect the new one to be on Motability?
Your first post is confusing you say the limit is 120 but surely you meant 220? In which case 215bhp on the new mini is fine?

First post was based om under 25’s as that is what I thought you were asking without my specs on ๐
I said “No it does not mean the new Countryman should necessarily be on the scheme regardless of bhp”
Simply meaning just beccause there are 200bhp and over cars on the scheme doesn’t mean the Countryman will make it to the scheme with 200bhp or more. Equally we don’t know if the lower powered one will make it to the scheme. Unfortunately no one has a crystal ball!
MINI has not revealed full details about the combustion engines (which will be realeased in February 24) that power the Countryman, but has said the front wheel-drive Countryman C will get 168bhp, with the Countryman S ALL4 getting four wheel-drive and a higher power figure of 215bhp, along with the JCW 296bhp.
In May the electric version will go on sale with 201bhp as well as other electric models, so Motability could wait for that given the way they are going. However, regardless of power saurce it will likely be be based on retail demand, which brings back to the crystal ball ๐
My reference to the X3 was its power exceeds 200bhp but its not on the scheme and is unlikely to be!

HarryThanks for the info Kezo. So 200bhp is the limit for combustion engines but we have cars on the scheme right now over it? Or only Electric?
Fingers crossed the 215bhp model can make it.

The combustion engined Mini JCW was 231bhp but no longer on the scheme. There are plenty of hybeids over 200nhp and a a couple of PHEV’s over 300bhp. Eaqually there are plenty of EV’s over 200hp including the EV6 GT 321bhp.
What the max bhp figures are I don’t know or if there really is a limit anymorem as long as its somewhat sensible ๐
September 19, 2023 at 10:16 pm #234038As with all Motability โcapsโ, whether they be price or bhp, they are pointless. Motability both apply them and ignore the caps whenever it suits them, so why bother with them at all?
Keep in mind also that power to weight ratio is more relevant than bhp, especially as cars are getting heavier so need more bhp to get the same oomph out of them!
