Have an ID.4 with an Ohme Pro charging unit at home and on British Gas EV tariff at present.
Have the price cap set to 7.91P through the Ohme app, and plug it in at night before I go to bed* then get ~5hrs charge between midnight and 5am with no bother.
Normally I plug it in everytime it drops to about 40%, but when it was raining last month a lot I ran it down to 5%.
The only problem was it curbs the cars power to preserve the battery. I can put up with such vagaries, for £6 a tank 🙂
*I plug mine in at around 6pm usually before it gets dark

2024 ID.4 Style Pro 77kw here, and I’m the same as most of the Enyaq guys, unsurprisingly.
Been getting 200-220 last month or two, but I do use the accelerator like Mr Miyagi taught Daniel San to wax his fences, and I’ve always got the heating & steering wheel on etc.
I have had hand controls in my last 3 vehicles, and the ID.4 is the first one with the gear/shifter on the right hand side of the wheel.
It hasn’t been too much trouble getting used to it, in all honesty. I hold the brake in place with my right hand and select D/R with my left hand before I start moving.
Must have moaned it in… Adaptations guy rang me this morning and told him I’d been informed the car was built and on the way but not sure when arriving. He said he’d be looking at July for them to come fit the steering ball & hand controls if the car was here this month.
Then the chap at VW said that they were coming to fit them next Friday and the car should be ready for me to take that afternoon. I was hoping it would be another month or so, as I’m self-employed and currently have a plethora of outsanding invoices owned by different people I do work for.
My brother had told me he’d pay them in cash if needs be, but I wasn’t sure that would fly nowadays and was a little bit worried. I would prefer to sort myself so asked if I could pay by C/C and he said it was no problem at all, which was a surprise.
I mentioned that my mum was panicking about me charging the car straight away, and he said not to worry at all he’d already charged it to 100%.
Better try and get myself refreshed on the payment cards/apps now, so I an do a few trial runs to chargers nearby as I’ve got a few London trips planned over summer lol…
Yeah, I think it might be down to the fact the updated Life/Style models weren’t around for long and they’re only just slowly coming to the UK now it would seem.
Dealer phoned to say he expected it sometime next month, so we’ll see how the shipping plays out 🙂
My ID.4 should be here sometime in the near future, so I’m so happy to hear that you’re enjoying the updated ID.5.
Sounds like a lot of the modifications they’ve made over the previous model are good, and looking forward to hopefully seeing some UK reviews of the new model 4 & 5 soon.
That was April, they’ve opened more since then Kezo, a quick look of the Tesla app shows of 70 locations open to all. They opened more last month.
I saw the 42 video, but couldn’t remember how long ago that was. That’s super!
Hopefully my cars takes a few more months and we might be at 100 by then 😀
Hopefully that’s how it plays out, as that should create some healthy competition with the other firms.
Think there are currently 42 Tesla charging stations currently open to all, if I’m up to date.
I may not be, as I’ve not checked for a little while 🙂
i have only ever paid on collection day.
Been the same for me with every car I’ve had on the scheme, which has been with Vauxhall. Told the same for the one I have on order now with VW, too.
This is the second time I have used the same dealer. The first time cash was no problem. This time the same person said payment need to be by bank transfer. I requested that I wanted to pay cash again and in all fairness he went to ask the manager, who just told me they can’t do it anymore sorry!
Think I paid cash for one of my Astras, but that would have been 7-10 years ago now.
I might ask if I can this time, just to see what the VW garage policy is.

Mine is getting built next month, so definitely pleased to hear all the good reports 🙂
If it’s like the hotels in the US I’ve stayed at, they put ‘holds’ on your credit card for incidentals when you check-in.
At some it’s $150 a day, but it releases as soon as you check out. Well, it does from a credit card, but can take a week or so if you use a debit card.
I’m guessing it’s the same these chargers, and can take longer from a debit card. I’ll find out soon enough, I guess.
May 13, 2024 at 8:53 pm in reply to: Dealer told me they fined £15000 per electric car not sold in time #277505Unfortunately yes this is true. As Kezo has posted the Government ZEV Mandate link, this is a goal to have all new car sales be EV by 2035 (thankfully back from 2030) – whether we like it or not. The only country to have such stringent and stupid goals as EVs are anything but green when you take in pre sale and full life cycle of use.
So either 1 of 2 things will happen. We will only be able to buy EVs (and hope they don’t burst into flames) or if you do choose to buy an ICE – it will have an additional £15,000 government tax on it, as well as VAT and all the rest – as manufacturers will just pass the fine on.
It is yet more control mechanisms over our lives and removal of our freedom of choice and freedom to travel – all in the name of “green”. This is the height of virtue signalling and greenwashing. Stick with ICE.
Welcome to the forum, MacMaster 🙂
Glad to hear you’re enjoying it so much!
Hoping mine arrives before back end of summer, so I can do a few trial runs up the motorway before weather turns 🙂
Nice one, enjoy the day with the manual
I’ve been watching a bunch of YouTube videos, but am expecting it to take me about 3 months to get the hang of anything outside charging 😀
Good times! Hope you enjoy 🙂
Just looked on the app and mine is showing 2.62 now.
My car probably won’t be here for a few months, so will hopefully be all resolved by then.
Lovely looking car!
Hope it gives you many miles of enjoyment.
If you’re looking at an EV, the VW ID.4 and Peugeot E3008 are both competitively priced @ £799 & £499 AP.
Was pondering cancelling my Style Pro, so I could order a Match Pro with the Style Plus pack. I called today as still hadn’t heard anything about my build date, and have been given a ‘week 22’ build date for mine. Said he hoped it would be here for July, so we’ll see how things play out over the next few weeks.
what is the cost implication and ergo what extra are you getting for your buck ?
£200 more, as it’d be £799+900, instead of the £1,499 I’m paying now.
I’d lose a few bits, but keep the panoramic roof, as well as gain the electronic tailgate.
From what I can work out, that is. Then you have to factor in the length of time I’ll be waiting if I start again, too.
Given I’ve always got someone with me when I go anywhere and need my wheelchair, I won’t have to worry about the boot, anyway 🙂

All the best.
MacMaster and Geoffbuyscars are still about on YouTube, if you prefer 🙂
Ha Ha did not take long for the EV Evangelist to come out of there holes it is a religion they will come up with lots of nonsense and after so may years why did we not have EV cars because there was way back when we had combustion engines but it did not work and it is being proved now many cars that you may buy EV are not worth anything someone was quoted that if you had damage to an EV or replacement batteries it is cheaper to scrap them and now insurance companies are really seeing the light of day with this so it is comming to an end the EV hype and good riddance.
Mini MacMaster is on the forum, I see.
Comedy.
