I was tempted by the eC4, really nice looking car and everyone says how comfy it is.
My favourite car is a Citroën. BUT can you guess which one?! Thats right the DS. Never had one, but it is the car of my dreams. Just need to win the lotto now!

December 8, 2021 at 1:27 pm in reply to: FreeFree Motability charger! How much have you actually paid? #171196So far I have paid £160 (rounded up) for an isolation switch. I am due to be refunded from BP.
I need a cable run of 25m and the standard is 15m. So I am expecting a bill for that, we shall see.
I have to say, I feel like the vanguard here. Am I really the first ever?!
I should add that it will be a significant financial contribution from Motability, and a reason why I am doing it.

I think the future we will see electric caravans and trailers. With their own battery and electric motor but controlled by the car of course. Caravans cost ££££ so you can treble that if it happens!

7 December 2021 – Isolation switch install date is 4 January. Notified BP of this and still awaiting to hear from them regarding a site survey.

Well done Ed, you are right to ask those questions. It will be interesting to hear what Motability say. Did you put pen to paper? If not, you might like to consider doing that. Also, have you thought about writing to your MP?

Still its only £5000 for a decent Suv and 12 18 month wait for one
I feel you need to back up what you are saying with numbers and demonstrate the problem.
I had a quick look at a BMW X2 2.0i Xdrive Sport retails for £38360 or £31967 ex VAT. Deposit is £3299 and three years of PIP is £6120. They sell on Autotrader after three years for about £25000 but I doubt the retailers don’t pay that at auction. Lets say they get back £23000.
So total income would be £3299+£6120+£23000 = £32419 which is £452 more than the actual car costs.
There is an argument for discounts, but so is there for additional costs – breakdown, insurance, adaptations and tyres. I know this will not be the same for all cars.
At £452 for the 650,000 customers, that equals £293,800,000 every three years(circa £98m per year). So whilst looking at profit alone, it is a big number, but look at numbers per customer and it suddenly becomes small beer.
What do you guys think?

Have you thought about moving JoJoe?!! I don’t think my ICE car could do that journey in one hit, and I know my arse and bladder couldn’t!! Totally epic but I am with you on just wanting to get there.

Forget it, I have read more of the thread. Best of luck.

Oh that Mr Brand. Sorry, I am being slow here, but why write to him??

Nothing – I have an EV on order and can not wait. Home charging installation is in progress and a 200 mile range is more than enough for me, it should get me to Tesco’s and back! The idea of having a car charged up and ready to go each morning really appeals.
What sort of range do people think they need? And what sort of sacrifice are they prepared to make to achieve it?

I have written to Mr Brand . . . in touch with Russell Brand
Who is Russell Brand?

My local Tesco has a crossing right next to two cash dispenser machines. Where do the ignorant bleeps park to use the cashpoint…yep, on the crossing!

That figure 3.76 m/kwh really does prove that Hyundai is a very efficient car. Well done.

Hi @Emily. What a shame you are trying to join the scheme now, the worst possible time.
As @Laura says, reach out to Motability and see what they suggest.
Many people are having long lead times for delivery and your husbands idea seems like a good one. You could place an order and whilst waiting run the second hand car – sell it when the Motability car arrives?
All the best.

I doubt the profit would cover a £6 trillion give away! 😉
Might get a tenner each though! 😉
It sounds like some should form a pressure group and have a more concerted approach to Motability.

December 3, 2021 at 4:54 am in reply to: Not everyone can or wants to go fully electric just yet’ #170650I am not a green saviour, far from it. BUT get used to the idea of electric as you only have three contracts (9 years) and you’ll have to be electric or hybrid. And by then I suspect hybrids will be a dying breed. There some sweeteners out there just now and they will not last for ever I’m sure.
Resistance is futile!

2 December 2021 – Double Pole Isolation Switch ordered and paid for by me from OVO. BP tell me I can claim a refund from them. No invoice from OVO yet. Grrr. Without this, BP will not install. Also, BP are to arrange a site survey.

Do you know when the current CEO at Motability Operations was appointed?

December 2, 2021 at 5:28 am in reply to: Not everyone can or wants to go fully electric just yet’ #170534I agree @Ian I recently heard someone say that an EV is more polluting than their Land Rover! Because where does the electricity come from? How quickly people forget how diesel gets to the pumps from the oil fields.
I can not wait to never visit a petrol station again – bring it on.

Motability has around 650,000 customers. There are around 10 people in this thread voicing criticism. Can you see where I am going with this? If you want to make an impact with Motability, you are going to have to do a much better job in getting people to see it from your point of view or your voices will not be heard.
I have had Motability cars since it first started and I have always been frustrated by the availability of suitable cars. Generally speaking there have been more manual gearbox cars than auto. Auto cars equivalent cars have always cost more than their manual counterparts. So, for example, an auto Ford Escort/Focus has always cost more than the manual one.
The lack of choice and loading of prices for auto cars drives me nuts. Will it change? I doubt it, not in my lifetime.
Out of interest the current CEO has recently been appointed, he hasn’t had chance to make any changes or ‘line his own pockets’. Be careful what you say in a public forum folks.

1 December 2021 – Double Pole Isolation Switch. A problem. Without this switch, BP will not install a charger.
It is like I am the first person to go through this process.
OVO energy have not heard of Motability. OVO energy can only order a switch via my account and therefore I will have to pay for it.
email today sent to BP requesting they speak with OVO, get it paid for and then ask OVO to call me and arrange a fitting date.
