New to the scheme, I have a diesel Peugeot 5008 waiting to be built I order it start of august at the time they said looking at end of December at latest to receive it.  Now be lucky to get February/march as still no build date and they do not sound encouraging at all to hit those dates, but now we have no car as the one we was using for our children has sadly gotten to that stage in its life it will cost way way more to repair it than the car is worth.,to be with out a car over Christmas is a disaster, my husband did say I shouldn’t be relying on them to deliver. He reackons we should just cancel then get a secondhand one. Is there no other options with the mobility?

thanks in advance any advice you can give.

        Welcome!
I would call motability and ask their advice. They are real helpful. I’m in th position to change my car (5 years with a Kia Sportage) and a lot of the cars I looked at have come off the scheme the car I currently have isn’t even on it. I spoke to motability about options they said the Dacia duster might be an alternative. Now I’m not a badge bothered but that wouldn’t suit my needs for 2 wheelchairs one being powered in the boot, so surprised they said about that. Though they did say what about the Peugeot. This makes me think that the lead time may not be as long in Peugeot. I have driven one but hated the steering wheel. I have bad hands and I just couldn’t find it comfortable so a longer journey would be agony.
Motability were helpful and tried their best as they know there’s an issue with less times and cars especially suv going off scheme.
give the dealer a call just to see any update or even try another garage.
I would give them a call and ask what would they suggest. I spoke to a lovely lady that day who went out of her way to help me. See if they can help and good luck with whatever new car you choose

Hi, What I did back in February was search on Autotrader for brand new cars and when I found them I emailed the dealer about having it on Motability. The trick is to look for cars that the dealer has taken photos off themselves and not just stock images. Also when you contact a dealer if you can be flexible on colour and spec they may be able to source one quicker. They found a 5008 GT diesel for me and it was ready to collect within 3 weeks. I hope this helps.

Hi @Emily. What a shame you are trying to join the scheme now, the worst possible time.

As @Laura says, reach out to Motability and see what they suggest.

Many people are having long lead times for delivery and your husbands idea seems like a good one. You could place an order and whilst waiting run the second hand car – sell it when the Motability car arrives?

            All the best.

Ask motability, see if they can help, if they can’t, they can’t but you will know one way or another. If you do go the second hand route don’t forget you may be able to use it to pay the AP on a motability car when things settle down.

Pick a car and ring round all dealers we went from no car to delivered in 72 hours ask if they have it in stock then Ask if they will sell to Motability be prepared to travel that said this time it was only 21 miles last time it was 300 you put in the work you reap the reward good luck
