Yes, the Hybrid +.
That was my thinking. I was running around looking at all these new cars when I suddenly realised that I was quite happy with what I was driving (odd foibles apart!) and with the new one supposedly being a step up and available at an absolutely bargain price, why mess about?

I was told today that the IM6 is also coming on the scheme in Q1 but I have a large pinch of salt in hand.

I’ve just ordered a replacement for my MG HS which has been so good, I ordered another one. And at a bargain AP of £365.

I just ordered an MG HS Hybrid + to replace the one I’ve had for the last three years.
I ordered my next motability car ( Ford Capri EV ) the advance payment was just £245 when I ordered on the 29th July .Thankfully this is tied in as I wait ( already 10 weeks over date ) the new upfront payment has jumped to a whopping £4,345 ! a near 18 fold increase. At this rate my next “car” will be a scooter . https://www.motability.co.uk/find-a-vehicle/cars/search-results/ford-capri/665888?awardType=PIP&advancePayment=%7B%22min%22%3A0%2C%22max%22%3A7999%7D&makeName=Ford&modelRange=Capri&fuelType=Electric

That’s epic. (the price, not the wait!!)

I can actually order now but I’m holding off until Q1 appears. It may be that I come off the scheme altogether if the AP’s go crazy, especially with us WPMS holders losing the auto gearbox grant.

Had a look at the Jaecoo 5 yesterday and it’s certainly a nice looking car. Decent reviews too but reports of the MPG seem to be widely varied from low 30’s to around 40. Be interested to hear any real world experience of it, and the Jaecoo 7 for that matter.

I was reading in Car Dealer magazine that some of the ousted manufacturers are absolutely livid and are considering a legal challenge. I don’t know if there’s any basis for this, but it just shows that the only winners are the haters of the Motability scheme.
My son works in the trade and there are certainly discussions amongst the major manufacturers to challenge the pay-per-view proposal due to the negative impact it will inevitably have on the government imposed targets for EV sales.

Your use of both the pathetic ‘Reform knuckle draggers’ slur and ‘Rachel from customer services’ is not only dripping with irony, but detracts from what would have been a letter which makes some excellent points.
Whilst recognising your situation, there are many Reform voting veterans in the same boat who share exactly the same concerns. Some of us are even veterans.

The governments consultation document can be found here https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/69282ac1a245b0985f034197/eVED_Consultation.pdf it says that you estimate your mileage at the start of the year, pay for that and if it’s more at the end of the year you pay the balance. If you’ve overpaid it’s carried over to the next year. Mileage would be checked at service and at MOT. It specifically says that mobility cars are NOT exempt from this tax as they were not exempt from fuel duty but will continue to be exempt from VED. It also mentions PHEV and says it would be too complicated to say what mileage was done on electric or petrol so they will charge 1.5p instead! Note its only a consultation document so some things could change !!
Thus rendering PHEV’s absolutely pointless.

Hi All, Unfortunately we are living in a world of envy and lack of compassion for our fellow humans. The constant snipping at disabilities and others in the margins of society by the press is so disheartening. The rise of right wing rhetoric is very loud right now. The politics of today even from a Labour government reflects this narrative. We should all remember everyone is fighting a battle we know nothing about so with that in mind we should try to be compassionate to all.
Please give the ‘right-wing’ trope a rest will you. It was a socialist government delivering the budget today and from what I heard, the only influence they seemed to bend to was the unions and their own idealism.
The fact is that EV’s were always going to get hit at some point and the attack on Motability was inevitable given that they are an easy target. One which has the benefit of acting as whipping boy to divert attention away from the fact that it’s actually the DWP who are ultimately responsible.

November 25, 2025 at 8:05 am in reply to: Luxury cars removed from Motability ahead of budget #317902I think this highlights, if there were still any lingering doubt, what a spineless government we currently have.
The problem doesn’t lie with Motability, it lies firmly with the DWP but of course, ‘we’ are the easy target so rather than actually do what needs to be done, they were always going to come after us.
Shameful.

I’m just going by what I’m reading online.
Although as a very happy MG HS owner, I should know better than to listen to the internet!

Anyone have any updates on the ICCU issue with the Ioniq 5, I6, etc?
Seriously considering ordering an I5 N-Line but this is the one thing stopping me at the moment.

The MG HS has been the subject of numerous social media campaigns portraying it as horrifically unreliable and plagued by issues with the electronics. Sadly, that’s one of the downsides of social media because people are more than happy to use it to complain rather than praise.
The reality for for the vast majority of owners, myself included, is that it’s a fantastic car in pretty much every respect and as reliable as any other new car. I have never had a single issue with mine other than a number plate light bulb blowing.
Of course it’s not perfect and even after two and a half years, there are little things that annoy me about it but with the exception of physical knobs for the heating controls, I believe these have all been addressed on the newest model which I’m due to test drive next week. I’ll certainly have no hesitation in ordering another and the auto hybrid is the one I’ll get although my head may have been turned by the Ionic 5 N-Line. And if the IM6 comes on the scheme…..

Cracking car and they look great in black, which is why I currently have one! If I did buy another, it’d be red though.
I must say, having had a look at the IM6, if that came on the scheme, I’m sold!

It’s nice to see people talking up the HS for once. They get so much bad press and to me, non of it is warranted. It’s a genuinely superb car and for an incredible price.
However, after three years of ownership, I really fancy something different and the Ioniq really appeals to me, hence the test!
