Hi everyone – We have ordered a new Motability car a couple of weeks ago and I’m worrying that we might have ordered a car that seems to be having some issues.

We have ordered the MG HS 1.5 Petrol Hybrid+ Trophy. We were going to get the standard MG HS Petrol but when we went for our test drive the salesman said all new Motability orders would be the Hybrid+ model. It’s the automatic transmission.

I don’t really do social media but have noticed on Google searches and some reviews online that people are experiencing issues with infotainment systems changing languages as well as some of the specifications missing.

Our current Vauxhall Grandland was a total nightmare from the day we ordered it and has been the worst car we have ever had on the scheme in the twenty-plus years we have had a car.

Does anyone have the new MG HS 1.5 Petrol Hybrid+ automatic Trophy edition? Looking for an overview of whether it’s just a few odd issues or something more serious.

      Thanks in advance – Andrew

Hi, the infotainment changing language appears to soon remedy itself quite quickly or at least overnight. A member on here @ajn has recently picked up the Hybrid+ and had the language change and hasn’t said anything of it happening agan. He aso reported itto MG UK. I suspect it’s a glitch of some sort, that is common across the board , that will get sorted with a software update. Not sure of specifications missing on the new model and it’s been on the market now nearly a year.

It’s a nice car for the money and kit you get as standard.

The petrol version is available through the scheme, were you charged the AP for the petrol version and recieved the Hybrid+ or were you charged the Hybrid+ AP, which there are plent of offers on. However, the infotainment screens are the same across the board, so one wouldn’t be better than the other in that respect.

The MG HS has been the subject of numerous social media campaigns portraying it as horrifically unreliable and plagued by issues with the electronics. Sadly, that’s one of the downsides of social media because people are more than happy to use it to complain rather than praise.

The reality for for the vast majority of owners, myself included, is that it’s a fantastic car in pretty much every respect and as reliable as any other new car. I have never had a single issue with mine other than a number plate light bulb blowing.

Of course it’s not perfect and even after two and a half years, there are little things that annoy me about it but with the exception of physical knobs for the heating controls, I believe these have all been addressed on the newest model which I’m due to test drive next week. I’ll certainly have no hesitation in ordering another and the auto hybrid is the one I’ll get although my head may have been turned by the Ionic 5 N-Line. And if the IM6 comes on the scheme…..

Hello Andrew, @kezo has mentioned, I’ve got the car in question, and just to ease your mind it’s fantastic, got everything you’ll ever need imo.

Yes I one morning woke to find the language change from English instruction to Chinese.

Tbh our hearts sunk as everything else has been great for us, the glitch (let’s call it) lasted about 2miles down the road, then after a restart (quick Greggs coffee) all was fine and nothing since.

Seemed to be the one left screen of the two, and not the main steering wheel screen.

After kezo pointed out it should be reported to MG UK I did exactly that, I’ve received a reply of Thanks for our enquiry/report and awaiting any update.

I totally agree with @DougieB this car is seeming to almost get bullied by people picking faults that to me are relevant in all new cars, people making out it’s difficult to find fog lamps, it’s simple always available with one touch, another it’s so difficult to put the seats down, for me it’s simple, I can do it with the boot open, so can the Wife, it’s like any new car it takes a short while to get use too.

Ive mastered almost all setting and I’m defo not techy at all.

Im going away for the weekend, been away in the car already, it’s extremely comfortable, motorway driving, with lots of goodies if you want or need them, simple to use, on the Country roads/lanes the regen braking system is 2nd to none, the space in and around the whole vehicle again I found it better than my other test drives, the lights are extremely effective for night driving, if I had to find the bad points bings bongs, some can be turned off, the boot pull out cover is flimsy.

Im loving the car, saving me fuel also, might soon be taking it from Wales to Scotland and really excited to see how I cope with its extremely comfortable seats, before now been in pain after arriving driving other cars, I have full confidence in this car fairing up to be a great drive..

That’s what happened with the screen temporally ..

Tbh I’m not that bothered now as it happened and cleared quickly, could be a coincidence but it was my Wife’s first time using her key…

Thank you both for the reassurance. I’m glad that as you say it’s only a small number of people who seem to like to complain on social media.

When we did the test drive the driver alert system was a little frustrating but MG had updated it and it’s now easy to find and turn off.

              Thanks once again – Andrew

@DougieB I’m no expert or am I techy at all but the lowest have been 51 mpg an average of 61mpg, the highest was in the higher 70’s..

This car is under rated, the test drive I’d recommend atleast 2 hrs, but will take a few days to get used to (well for me coming from a 5yr motability extended Volvo xc40)..

I much prefer the MG even after the Volvo 2025 test drive, and others..

There are a couple of videos 0n @ajn  new car thread, that go through turning on/off the various functions. There are also favourite star * buttons, with at least one on the steering wheel, that can be used as a shortcut to the driver alert systems (MG Pilot), where you can turn these off.

Unfortunately the frustrating alert systems we are having are a by-product of the EU’s GSR2 safety initiative, rather than the doing of the manufacturers themselves. As part of GSR2 some safety systems are defaulted to on, every time you restart the car, but you son get use to the shortcuts to turn them off.

I wholly agree with @DougieB with the few that complain shout the loudes’t on social media, yet there are 1000’s that don’t and are happy + there is alway help on here.

@Dougie B yeah this it the petrol/hybrid non plug in (not sure of all the abbreviations) ..

Ive found Counry lane driving bumps mpg up, it does its own thing as in the sales man’s words, just drive it and that’s what it does switches between the both, and I guess with the ups downs corners and braking helps it right out, great fun too, he also said no matter how he’s driven them, its still above 51 mpg..

It’s the comfort, size, hight, responsive enough, kick down is adequate too..

Haven’t tried sport mode as it’s not been needed, I will though

No and for me that’s great, but can understand it’s not for everyone, however the interior lights when I’ve needed is fine.

Look at the passenger seat right back, 6’3”+ tall, full stretched straight legs to touch the back wall, even still I could get in the back with leg space..
