I could be absolutely wrong, but I think collection service is a must on Motability or they pay for the taxi? I had my VW for four years and they would come and collect from home. Same goes with my current Skoda, despite all the issues I have with the car. With Mazda it was different- the closest garage was 15 miles away, on my way to work and Motability covered the taxi costs- Mazda was faulty from day 1 and didn’t last for long.

Thanks for the reply. It would be great if we could somehow find out if Motability do a “collection service” or maybe even pay for a taxi. My last car was a Toyota and they were good with the “collection service” too.

I’ve never had a timeslot service…ever. It is usually drop the car off at 9.00 pick up the courtesy car and get the car back at 5.00pm. Even when I had a private car, used to drop it off first thing to get repaired/ serviced/ MOT’d.. No timeslots nowaday.

Thanks for the reply but to say “No timeslots nowaday” just goes to show how misguided you are.
As has been pointed out in another reply, Renault and a number of other dealerships do operate on a time slot basis. Also, I very much doubt if there are any such things as “courtesy cars” available any more. You do have to pay.

Guys, stop being so accommodating. You get pushed off by being accommodating. It goes against the “I’m not disabled, I can manage” mantra, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. In other news, I also have an Austral and it’s been brilliant, bit when you make thousands of something then some won’t come out perfect. Sorry you ended up with one that has imperfections. My suggestion would be to arrange a meeting with the dealers Motability rep rather than trying to do things through Motability directly.

Thanks for the help. My Renault dealership have not been very helpful but I will follow up on your advice.

Having only a few days ago mentioned to the OP that I was surprised that he got no support from Motability, I now find myself in exactly the same position. I have a four month old Renault Austral that on three occasions has gone into some form of limp mode. Leaving me holding up traffic on busy main roads and on the first occasion, my wife in tears.

I spoke to Motability earlier this week and although they made the right noises, I felt they weren’t interested. They got me to call out the RAC to do a check on the car. The RAC came and couldn’t find any listed fault codes and basically said if there are no codes, there’s nothing wrong with the car.

Worse than Motability not seeming interested is the feeling that you’re not being believed by them. I use the Renault Austral forum quite often and there are at least four others on there with the same problem and again, none of them having any fault codes listed on the car. Really disappointed with Motability.

Surprised to hear you received no support from Motability. I’ve always found them to be quite helpful. Pleased to see you got everything sorted in the end.

Can I ask what you returned please? Wondering if there are others with similar problems or maybe you just got a rogue Friday afternoon car.

Hopefully you’ll soon get the Austral back, although some dealers are claiming a “shortage of spark plugs”.

I’ve had my Austral since early September and have been really impressed but having read all the problems listed on the Facebook page, there’s always a niggling doubt in the back of my head.

Don’t pay much heed to those groups and just enjoy the car. I think it’s a cracker by the way. I’ve a complete dud of an e3008 but I would not put any one of ordering. The e3008 FB has many happy drivers all loving the car and have no problems whatsoever. You are right mind as peace of mind just incase it’s a breakdown or a puncture. Kezo’s choice is probably best. All numbers in a pouch or laminated and in the glovebox and stored in your phone. Ps did I mention that the australs a cracker lol

Thanks for the help and reassurance Des. I do appreciate that the vast majority of the people who post on the Facebook forums are the ones experiencing problems with their cars. As you say, “peace of mind and just in case”.

You need to install the MyRAC app on your phone. You dont have to worry about numbers and it geolocates your position. You just raise a breakdown. Having said that, i used it a few weeks ago and they quoted a window of 4 to 6 hours before they could get to me. I was in a carpark, not a live highway

Brilliant, I wasn’t even aware there was one. Thanks for the help.

For me, it’s either been the dealership or even the individual sales person.
When I was with Vauxhall, most definitely yes. As a Motability customer they treated me really badly, messed me about quite a bit. I then moved to Toyota and the sales bloke wasn’t really interested, not sure if that was him or because I was Motability. I’m now with Renault and for me it’s been a much better experience. The sales person went out of his way to be helpful.

I’ve swore by Waze for years, it is true google bought them out and slowly started pulling the best of into google maps but I still find Waze does it better overall. Very quick to update their maps as well if you report a change or road closure.

That makes a lot of sense. There always seems to lots of other users shown on the maps.

Thanks for the update Retro. I collected my Austral on Monday this week, really impressed so far. As you say even in ‘Comfort’ mode the response is very quick. I also agree about the poor cameras, especially coming from a Toyota TS were the picture quality was brilliant.

Shadow Grey with Black roof, the grey paint has a very strong metallic flake and the black is full of many different flakes that really sparkles.

As Colin suggested, if you do not go through an authorised seller, they will be illegal. The sale is documented at the garage and with your driving license and a copy of your V5. The plate must also display the postcode and garage name of the supplier You could get plates on ebay, but they will in all likely be illegal. Like everything else, the plates will be logged and available to the cops at the roadside. Just like insurance and mot data. Even when and where the plates are made up. Everything is online and available to law enforcement.

                                      Thanks for the advice.

My company does (standard) plates and we need two things, proof of the registration and entitlement to get the plates and proof of ID for the person ordering the plates. You’ll need to get a copy of the log book from motability. The fines for cutting corners are scary even for a first time and are usually quickly followed by an audit of every plate made recently (and recently varies) so a single confirmed unlawfully made plate can easily put a company out of business (especially if they have done it before during that audit period)

                                        Thanks for the help Colin.

The app from my experience didn’t give you much so I wouldn’t worry too much unless you’re prone to forgetting where you parked, then it’s a life saver.

At least that’s some comfort. I’ve now seen on other forums that the MyRenault app is a bit lacking in the information stakes. I’m still in my Corolla TS for another two weeks yet and the MyToyota app does have a few more options, will miss it.

By way of an update, all is well now. The RAC man arrived a little later the time slot they gave me and after running a few diagnostic checks, he started the car. Then ran a few more diagnostics and declared the battery was shot.

Apart from being slightly late, the man who turned up was brilliant. Kept me informed as to what he was doing and finally left after replacing the battery and checking everything was OK.

Something he did say, was that in all his seven years with the RAC, mine was only the second Toyota he’d been called out to. Not sure why I’m moving to Renault.
