Hello fellow Skodians. I hought I would start this thread, as there seems to be quite a few either taken ownership, placed orders or just thinking about getting the best ev out there.

So, any questions that someone may be able to answer, any good or bad dealings with dealers, specs wanted or received, perhaps someone could help others in their quest

Has anyone noticed the message on the infotainment screen telling you to book in for a software update?

It wants to put 5.4.3 on MY24 car which I didn’t think was compatible with the “older” cars.

My journey today was to go back to the Skoda dealer to get my tyre repair kit that was missing from the Elroq – they were kind enough to give me one but apparently Skoda no longer include this – not sure this is true across all Skoda, just EVs or just Elroq.

The online car builder tyre repair kit included.

When i took delivery of my new Sportline 85x in June with the optional 21″ supernova alloys,i checked the boot for the tyre repair kit and it was missing, phoned the dealer up and they invited me to come and collect it.

Gets to dealer and and they told me because i had the 21″ wheels fitted the car did not come with a repair kit………so how do i inflate a punctured tyre ?……..you dont was the answer……..they summoned a mechanic to explain the 21″ tyres are self sealing and he showed me an old tyre and it had this layer of black stuff lining the inner tread part of the tyre.

All this tyre nonsense is driving me nuts, remember a few years ago you’d pop a spare on and you’d be fine? Now if the sealing stuff doesn’t work or you don’t have it you’re looking at a 3 hour wait for the RAC or worse and even then they only loan you a spare to get you to kwikfit or home and follow you.

Most cars don’t even have space for a spare, jack etc anymore either. I tell you getting a bad tyre out of hours SUCKS there’s no real process to get you back on the road quickly you just have to wait for kwikfit mobile (several days wait in my experience and it’s bound to be a bank holiday lol) or wait for them to reopen and get the RAC to tow you there. Next time it happens I’ll try to drive to STS or Kwik fit slowly instead.

Skoda changed to a direct sales model last year. This took away any control dealers have over discounts on cars or options as they lost their flexibility as Skoda controls pricing. Under the old system a dealer would buy stock from Skoda then sell it to you for whatever they liked to make a profit. Now the dealers are basically sales agents for Skoda. So unless Skoda offers a deal then I think the days of dealer discounts may be gone.

I think that was only for the EV sales, whilst servicing EV’s remained at dealer level, rather than agency and ICE continued as a non agency model and remained wholesale however, the agency approach for EV’s was withdrawn for the short to medium term earlier this year, with VW group blaming slow electric car take-up for the rethink.

This follows, Ford, JLR and Stellantis having also moved away from direct sales in recent months, and in January saw Polestar in the UK is now pursuing a dealership model, having previously only sold direct, thus opening the door for dealership haggling again.

I see at least some vehicles are getting remote unlock via the app as they’re upgraded from 4.x to 5.4.3 very interesting.

Will have to look at booking it in soon, can’t right now as my eldest just had emergency surgery but seems like some good stuff in the update. Check your infotainment unit it popped up as a system message to get the car booked in with Skoda to upgrade the software

I took delivery of my Sportline 10 June and I think it’s really good. I’m not doing a lot of mileage in it, the furthest being a couple of trips to Scarborough, a round trip of 190miles but gave myself a little fright on the way back last week, I had only charged to 80% and we seem to really eat the miles on the way back, we only had eight miles left when we arrived home. It seemed really bizarre but during the return journey after switching off the SAT Nav our projected range increased by approx 20 miles. Also, as the amount of charge dissipated we were traveling greater distances for each mile reduction in range ……………. just some notes, perhaps others have experienced this also.

Another point, with regard to the infotainment system, I use an android phone but when I’m playing say an album from Spotify or even a podcast from BBC Sounds “In our time” I can’t fast forward or rewind through the content. Certainly, I can jump to the beginning or the end but I can’t say rewind 10secs. Is this bug, a fault on my side, ie operator finger trouble, or perhaps a design limitation?

Your thought would be most welcomed.

Yeah as you’ve discovered the range is really a guess based on driving style among other things.

Turn off the aircon is the biggest way to boost range, turn aircon off, set fan to 3 and set temp to Lo that’s the most efficient way to use it and keep the car fresh and not misted up.

It’s pretty steep hills around Scarborough which probably explains some of the high usage.  Worth checking tyre pressure too as those dropping can add more drag, when I got mine the tyres were below the ones stamped on the car

                      Thanks Rich,

It’s got Aircon! I’ve never been one for using Aircon, using ICE cars it would reduce the range and I always wanted maximum range, it will be the same for the Enyaq! Driving style, is perhaps the major draw on the range, I can sometimes have a heavy foot and the sections of duel carriageway on the A64 seemed to encourage me. The next time I go any distance, then the car will have a full charge!

Do you know anything about my query re the infotainment system?

                      Regards

                      Xan

No idea about the streaming apps via phone. Are you using android auto or just streaming to the car? It could be something those apps have setup when streaming to another device, similar to how they block YouTube from playing on the infotainment screen

All I can suggest is try different apps, try just sending the audio to the car or using android auto whichever way round you haven’t tried it.

There’s some great Enyaq owners on YouTube that show how to get the best range from the car without being silly.

I always charge to 100% can’t be bothered mucking around and I give zero poops about the long term battery health once I’m done with it, maybe I should but I only have a certain amount of stuff to care about lol.

                          HI Rich,

I will check the situation re the apps.

As for charging to 80%, this is my first motability vehicle and just assumed that I should do as they ask and only charge to 80%, my thoughts being if I play be the rules perhaps I may be able to keep the car longer than three years. I don’t want to be putting good money into a replacement if after 3 years it only has less than 20k on the clock. I know the facility for extending the lease was withdrawn but rules can be changed and with depreciation of Ev being quite large, perhaps it would be in their interests to get more money out of the lease to me ……………… maybe stupid reasoning but hey-ho!

                            Hi Xan

Don’t worry about anything like that you run the car however you like and suits you best, no one is going to even look at how it’s been charged.  Motability will let you extend the lease but only whilst you’re waiting on you next car to be delivered.  The days of extending leases for up to 5 years for “normal” cars is gone now sadly, you’re right things may change again but I highly doubt it.  I don’t think the depreciation issue will go away until the media stop fearmongering all the time but expecting them to do that is like asking them to stop blaming immigrants for all the country’s problems it’s not going to happen.  Your logic is sound in theory but Motability seem to have their own ideas on these things.

Maybe once the new sodium batteries become more mainstream in cars that’ll stop the EVs all catch fire bridge from their endless BS.

I charge mine to 100% almost all the time, I don’t always rush to immediately charge every night so there’s that.  I often hold off in order to make use of Octopus when they have free power etc especially when I know  there’s a storm incoming as there’s usually excess wind power on the grid then like this weekend with 3 hours of free power.

Good luck with the apps, don’t worry too much about Motability and just use the car to suit you

If you’ve nit seen it,have a look at jy software update pist

At this moment in time, I woukd n8t update to 5.4, it’s buggy and causing many problems

I’ve seen quite a few posts etc from others who have had a OK experience with it. Seems to be if the update fails they need Skoda IT to unlock the car ECU so they can start from scratch and the lead time for that is 24 hours hence the we need it for 2 days.

I booked the car in end Sept 1st available date was 13th October. A week later I emailed them and double checked about the time needed etc and I was assured they could do it while I wait.

Phone call today saying we need the car for TWO DAYS to do the update and now looking at 27th inc courtesy car.

Not gonna bother as mentioned there have been issues I get the impression the bulk of which were solved in September and that’s lead to the 2 day time (who’s doing the updates Microsoft? )

Comes back to my old statement about IT systems in cars being a poorly thought out, poorly implemented, zero security mess. The biggest thing crippling modern cars the hodge podge nature of the modules and talking over the pathetic Canbus.

I’m gonna tell them not to bother now after I specifically asked about the time they needed the car for and no doubt their loaner are gonna be cheap ICE stuff.

I’ll try again next year I think I’m annoyed now
