I was fortunate enough to get a chance to drive my friends big Tesla model x. The thing was huge and very futuristic but, even as a self confessed petrol head the car had no soul. I firmly believe that some vehicles (not just classic cars but planes and steam trains) have a soul. It was great fun to drive & being able to do 0-60mph in under 3 seconds was cool but I couldn’t see myself owning one as the lack of quality control was evident on his 4 week old car with huge panel gaps and a few squeeks.

Hi Mike, I’m an owner of the previous generation of the ioniq a 2019 model there are a few differences to the newest one but there are also some tips I can give you.
- During low speeds most of your journeys will be mostly electric with the most likely use of the engine to pull away in traffic.
- The ioniq is a fantastic car and has served me brilliantly for 3 years and 38000 miles so far.
- Occasionally I can be sat in the outside lane of a motorway doing the speed limit purely on electric power which is quite a cool feeling.
- The battery on the new ones is bigger than the one in mine so you’ll get even better mpg than me(50-55mpg on e5 and 48-50 on e10)
<p style=”text-align: left;”>For some reason my ioniq will always start the engine when I put the car into reverse.</p>
If you do go for the car enjoy it and if you want/need any help or tips drop me a message.Current car 2022 Hyundai Kona premium in Jungle green.
500 miles is achievable in Summer with my 1.7 diesel MPV but its a boring drive with danger of falling asleep at the wheel. ?? Otherwise mostly around 400 miles per tank with a 55 Litre Tank and around 380 in Winter. Mostly suburban and city driving.
on a boring drive back from Wales last August I managed to get 56mpg so it was a nearly 500 mile run on one tank.

Before e10 came in I could regularly get 480 miles from a tank in my ioniq, now its closer to 410. Not that I can drive that far in one go now but when I switch to electric I won’t mind having to stop at 300 because it’ll give me a good excuse to stop and stretch

February 13, 2022 at 12:20 am in reply to: Peugeot Gt premium turning up without heated seats. #177083I’d contact motability and ask their advice, but fundamentally the car that has arrived is different to that of which you ordered. I’d PERSONALLY speak to the dealership and say that unless the car is fitted with the heated seats than you’ll be contacting motability and a lawyer. If you personally haven’t had yours yet then refuse to input the pin number until its sorted.

I’m going to be slightly controversial here but as great a car as the vw I.D.3 is the interior feels like it’s a much cheaper car. I’m actually quite glad I didn’t order one

At the other end of the scale, probably the best front end in the mainstream today.
I’ve seen a few of these and every time I do I like the looks of it. Shame it’s out of my price range.

When I first came to the scheme I chose the Seat arona xcellence lux model. The shipping date kept changing and because it was so popular they had to change the spec because they ran out of Alcantara®, so the car would of been very different to to the spec I wanted. However I look back on it and wish I’d kept it because I’d spent 6 weeks going over everything to make sure it was the perfect car for me. My current car (which is a fantastic Hyundai Ioniq) has always felt a little low and definitely lacking on the tech side of things because it has an infotainment system from 2017 and 3 months after I picked it up they released a facelifted model.

It’s the way the Kona and most other EV’s work, most of the electrical systems like radio, lights, heated seat run off the 12V battery, only the A/C runs off the main traction battery.
I’ve ordered a kona premium but I was wondering how long you’ve had yours and what your thoughts are about it?

I hope this helps, I saw a video on YouTube from the channel fully charged plus, from what I gather the company in the video essentially agrigates all the different companies and apps under one umbrella making it easier to charge up.

January 24, 2022 at 4:49 pm in reply to: Electric vehicle myth busting: a new series from me. #175247I love the approach of myth busting. Original thinking is the most difficult thing to do. Even our way of life means google and someones else’s ideas are our goto. If you accept that but test everything compare and contrast, that’s brilliant. If I come across any fit subject for you to investigate I will post. Keep up the good work. Your piece above is something I have wondered about quite a bit.
I’m glad I can be of assistance.

apparently the most efficient way to stay warm is by using the heated seats as they’re in contact with the body.

Entirely down to Motability, either BP pulse of Ohme
due to not having the funds to pay for a dropped kerb or a new fence I won’t be eligible for a home charger so I’m going to use the card the give you instead.

As for Arnold Clark – yup, pretty typical of them, they are, on the whole, not the best nor most knowledgeable out there. I avoid them unless I have no choice (sadly they seem to be the favoured dealership for some marques in Scotland so it can be hard to find an alternative dealer). £5k AP, that’s truly ridiculous for what it is.
I recently undertook a test drive of a Kona in Aberdeen and was told the reason for them reintroducing accompanied test drives was because they had had several high value cars stolen whilst being test driven uncomplicated in the central belt. @ Abercol I’ve found the staff at Hyundai Falkirk and Glasgow next to the M8 to be very helpful, the staff at Aberdeen were as you said almost useless when I asked about certain things on the car.

;TLDR Got mats eventually on day of pick up after a small back and forth with the manager.
I mentioned mats being included with my current car and got the dealer to agree to it in front of his boss who was watching the deal. When I went to pick up the car it had been forgotten about and I said I wouldn’t put the pin in until I got them as promised. The dealership manager said he understood I was promised them and threw them in the car personally as I watched.

I’ve found (and I suspect over the last few weeks, so have many other people) that the weather is the single biggest factor affecting range. During the summer we were easily able to coax almost 270 miles out of the Kona (claimed range, 300 miles) and still have a fair bit of charge left over, and that was on the motorway with the aircon blowing. Admittedly there a few roadworks and traffic jams which worked in the favour of economy. However, setting off for London one chilly, foggy morning last week, and having pre-heated the car while still plugged into the mains, the range indicator was just ~180-190 miles, with battery at 100%, a whopping 37% (approx) reduction in range. We do need the heating quite high, my wife is still dressed for Antarctic expeditions even with the heating set at 22c. Doesn’t bother us that much, at the time we leave we’re virtually guaranteed to get an available charger whenever we want and we always stop for a coffee regardless of whether we need to charge or not.
Thanks for that insightful information, I’m not due to get my car until August/September due to new information so this will really help me plan journeys. I knew there was a drop in energy levels when cold outside but didn’t realise it could be that high of a percentage drop off. Thanks again @Adrian

I’d definitely agree with you about the feeling of the ID.3 cabin. Maybe that’s how they got the car to a reasonable price point, by cheaping out on the end user experience.
Current car 2022 Hyundai Kona premium in Jungle green.
Hi fwippers, I too drove the ID.3 and found it rather lacklustre inside and found the lack of any physical controls for the fan and heater systems to be a problem whilst driving. The kona isn’t a performance car but its seats were very comfortable whilst holding me securely and it still has physical controls. I can’t wait until mine gets delivered.

Korea is showing the Europeans- particularly dullard VW- how to do it. Good for them.
Indeed. I never give VW a thought when choosing a new car. Haven’t done for over a decade. Their design team should all be fired. The last good looking car from VW was the Sirocco.
The only reason I was looking at the ID.3 was because of its cheap price, now it isn’t on the scheme I’m slightly glad I won’t be driving an awkward looking box.
