Omg not again!!! Couple of weeks ago it was Nigel Farage’s Reform party saying people were getting £50,000 BMW’s for having Constipation!!!…now the Conservative party are jumping on the bandwagon, what a surprise?!..NOT!!!..What NO illegal immigrates crossing on dinghies today to keep these idiots occupied?!
@belfast4, If a Motability car is being used for Fast Food delivery? I’m sure that would come under “Business Insurance” and wouldn’t be allowed by Motability rules of use, and therefore making DirectLine Insurance void if they were to have an accident.
@Cinnamonseason. Give Motability a quick call, you’ll find they are very helpful. Explain your situation and hopefully Motability can clarify what your friend Can or Can’t do when she’s using the car for her own personal purposes.
Good luck 🤞
@Juniper Hi, Having own a EV for over a year the only advice I can give you is, for convenience, are you able to charge the car at home? If your answer is ‘yes’ an EV is a great option. There are some amazing Electric cars available on the scheme at the moment that will hopefully meet your requirements. So take your time and enjoy the process of taking as many test drives of different makes and models you can before finally ordering your next Motability car and good luck.
I doubt the EV grant applies to Motability customers because we’re leasing the cars not buying them I’m afraid.
@Rich44 you don’t make sense. In one paragraph you’re slagging off Motability and the next you’re praising them?! No pleasing some people! Just a suggestion, you can always leave the scheme at anytime if you dislike how it’s run that much!
It’s great to see Polestar have joined the scheme! But at £6.999-£7.999 AP’s is out of my league at the moment. If you’re considering an EV on the scheme? a serious contender Imo is the Ioniq 6 Ultimate model with all the bells and whistles at only £1.749 AP this quarter!
If you are going to buy a EV? IMO buy a secondhand one! There are some great deals to be had for 1-3 year old EV cars.
If the AP’s are excessively high for VW cars, who cares?! There are plenty of manufacturers on Motability that have cars of similar quality and specifications of VW at much lower AP’s.
Reading your last post you may have already paid the PCN? But if you haven’t?,I agree with @Mack2024,Don’t pay it.
If you think you have a good case? Tell them that you’ll fight it all the way and you’ll see them in court!.From past experience they will probably drop the charges before it goes to court. But only you can decide how far you want to take it?
Good luck!@Oscarmax, what do you mean Motability won’t be happy!? He’s not contemplating spraying the whole car a different colour!!! And I’m sure Motability don’t need to be contacted to get their permission just to touch up a few unsightly stone chips!
Yes,Motability may set the AP after negotiations with the car manufacturer. For example if BMW decided to sell their cars to the Motability Scheme for half the manufacturers retail price you would probably have Nil AP on every car!
Hi @Mack2024,The next paragraph may maybe of help about your question why the Advance Payments/ deposits are so high for some makes and models on the Motability Scheme, and this is the answer I found online.
The advance payment amounts for Motability Scheme vehicles are set through negotiations between car manufacturers and Motability Operations, the organization responsible for the scheme. These negotiations consider various factors, including the vehicle’s price, estimated servicing and maintenance costs, and its projected resale value at the end of the lease. The advance payment is the upfront, one-time payment required for some vehicles to cover the difference between the cost of the car and the customer’s weekly mobility allowance.
You can make up your own mind who’s responsible for the high advance payments, is it the car manufacturer? the Motability Scheme? Or both? I’m edging towards the car manufacturer being at fault not Motability!,especially the more prestigious manufacturers like BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc, etc. I’ve noticed they regularly have high advance payments for their cars compared to other car manufacturers on the Scheme!
On the MotaClarity website they think there’s a strong possibility that the Omoda 9 will join the Motability Scheme at some point.
IMHO I don’t think there are many deals or alternatives that compare to the Motability Scheme.
Fair enough you could use your allowance to pay for a private or lease car? But will it come with the worry free motoring that the Motability Scheme is offering?!
For example a brand new car every 3 years, 20,000 p.a mileage allowance, free servicing and tyres, car insurance, breakdown cover. Show me a deal for a private sale or lease car purchase that provides all the benefits listed above for the same amount of money,I doubt you could?!
I can’t thank the Motability Scheme enough! When they say it’s “Worry Free Motoring” they are spot on! It’s just one less thing to worry about.
@martinod Good question. I believe the Citroen Berlingo doesn’t come with car mats as standard! So probably not Arnold Clark’s fault but Citroens for being so stingy!
My motto is,”you pays your money and takes your choice”.If you really want a Mercedes and you can afford the high advance payment Go for it! You only live once.
April 2, 2025 at 12:37 pm in reply to: (UPDATE) Motability and Ford debating over who will pay for repair. #302764Hi Shakkhalid, my only criticism is that you didn’t contact Motability to get their advice before you took your car to the Ford dealership. But I do sympathise with you how the Ford dealership have dealt with this situation! And charging £165 per hour labour is an absolute disgrace! Good luck.
Don’t worry people the media can criticise the Motability Scheme all they want it’s not going anywhere! Without the Motability Scheme the car industry in the UK would go bust overnight with tens of thousands of people losing their jobs!!!
