Phoned direct line motability on Wednesday to inform them that my car had been repaired and returned to me so they transferred my insurance back to my car and told me not to drive courtesy car anymore and europcar would contact me shortly regarding return. Heard nothing so contacted europcar next day only to be told that DLM has instructed them to pick up car on the 9th of October Phoned DLM back and they said that’s right and they couldn’t tell me why the vehicle has to be sitting at my address for another 2 weeks before it can be returned.

Probably down to lack of staff. The person driving your hire car to wherever has to be driven to your house so that requires 2 people.
September 28, 2025 at 10:48 am #313116It’s not that I spoke to europcar and they said can be picked up anytime but they have to be given the authority from DLM and they haven’t authorised return of car until 9th October.
September 28, 2025 at 11:23 am #313117Crazy, as the cars just sitting there not being used, yet it attracting rental costs untill the 9th October. Perhaps ring Motability and explain your car is back, but the hire car is in the way, as DLM have arranged for it to be picked up on the 9th.
September 28, 2025 at 11:42 am #313119Motability just said contact DLM. I would also like to know who is responsible for any damage done while sitting at my address as there is no off street parking and it’s sitting on street.
September 28, 2025 at 12:15 pm #313121I would get onto Motability chat and explain you contacted them about the hire car remaining at your address (no off road parking), even though your scheme car is now repaired and in your possession from x date and that you have previously contacted Motability regards the hire car and were told to contact DLM, who have said the hire car is on hire untill the 9th October. Then go on to explain that you will not be held responsible for any damages to the hire car, since getting your own car back on “x” and request it is removed within 48hrs.
Did you take picturers of the hire car to confirm it’s condition including the fuel level and mileage, at the time of having your car back, if not I recommend you do it.
September 28, 2025 at 12:29 pm #313122Noted the fuel and mileage but didn’t take pictures will do that just now good advice.
September 28, 2025 at 2:37 pm #313123Perhaps send Motability a very short, but clear and concise message:
My scheme vehicle was returned on Wednesday 24/09/2025, yet the hire car remains at my premises. The hire company confirms it can collect at any time; the delay is solely due to DLM. I lack off-road parking, therefore will accept no liability for any damage to the vehicle. Please ensure its collection within 48 hours.

You missed – failure to do so, will only see AP’s increase in the future as you continue to waste money, which is then blamed on external factors because of course, it’s never your fault…😂
September 29, 2025 at 11:07 am #313155Motability are not interested in the problem. That is why they contract out Dlm insurance and RAC cover.
They just point the customer to the correct agency. How DLM, or Eurocar operates, they do not care.
Best to do a complete video of the exterior, and interior of the car and the mileage, just to cover yourself. Include the positions of the 4 wheels and tyre valves to prove the car has never moved.
Do it to cover yourself in case anything happens to the car. You have that recording on that date.

our contract is with Motability only therefore legally all the communication should go via Motability. I would send the suggested message and forget about it. I did the same in February, when received my Skoda back and had Proximo’s MG parked away for many days, as we have no place in the vicinity.

October 2, 2025 at 11:52 am #314707Glad it’s sorted this raises an interesting question. If they transfer insurance and the car is on the public road, obviously it’s covered by Europcar insurance BUT they have no knowledge of the state of that car. On top of that if you park it there they collect days later and someone keyed it or worse crashed into it who’s going to be liable for the excess and a “black mark” for a claim.
I think it opens a real can of worms, at the least they should come inspect the car quickly then after that any damage is on them.
Maybe I’m being picky but ultimately if the car gets damaged at any point before they collect it you know you’re getting the blame. Glad it all worked out in the end
