the omoda 9 is on the omoda website under their motability section but no AP yet or when demonstrators will be in dealers. It’s got a lot going for it but i think with a £45k retail price, the AP will probably be high. very few reviews on social media – maybe one to watch

Going by the AP of the Jaecoo 7, which has a similar setup but, only 56 miles electric, it won’t be cheap!

Driver’s headrest has speakers for either phone calls or private listening to music without disturbing passengers.  Talk about solving a problem nobody knew existed…

 

It is definitely a lot of car but you’d expect these new Chinese brands to come on the scheme at an attractive price to get cars on the road.  I fear @kezo will be right and it’ll be an eye watering amount.

I called my local Omoda dealer today and, even though its on the Omoda website as being available on Motability, they new nothing about it. They hope and believe it will be on Motability but have no information one way or the other.

The salesman told me he hadn’t actually seen an Omoda 9 in the metal 🤔

If the Omoda 5 is anything to go by it will be crazy overpriced on release. Give it a year or so and hopefully they will want to shift some and lower the price. For a £45k car the upfront payment should not be so high.

Concern what it will be like as others have said new to the car market.  Would be good tog et down on the road through motability scheme.

The issue is future values.  Motability has been burnt a few times with Chinese new brands coming onto the scheme cheap but the long term used prices weren’t great.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Motability are now hedging their bets and predicting worst case pricing.

Omoda UK and Motability have basically told me this is coming available, Motability told me to go and test drive it and every dealership I’ve spoken to have all said they’re expecting it anytime now, some say around the same price as the Jaecoo J7 SHS and one in Wales today said 7-8k.

Why?

BYD, MG and Kia have and had cars on at over 300bhp

It’s not about power for Motability, it’s all about service costs etc ( told to me by an accounts manager who runs the department that discusses pricing with manufacturers and also deal with cars that have severe issues like my last one did )

Then why we don’t have Tesla model Y on the scheme? Ticks all the possible boxes: place for a wheelchair, long range, low maintenance costs (only recently though). Cheaper than my Skoda Enyaq 85X

The drivers headrest solves the problem of not being able to privately listen to audio books and use your phone for android auto at the same time.  Very niche but I appreciate it lol

Kia yes at just over 300bhp  but not the others plus the Omoda is 450bhp which would make it the most powerful car ever on the scheme.

This is why EVs are trying to move away from crude BHP figures.  BHP is largely meaningless in an EV when you have 100% torque at 0 RPM it will always feel a lot faster than the equivalent BHP rated ICE vehicle.

Also they can’t win they produce high kw motors and people moan, they produce low powered EVs like the Spring and even more people moan and then start moaning about how they’re slow so they’re unsafe.

Unfortunately we still live in the consumerist bigger number in marketing equals better product.  Look at everything in an EV especially from battery and motor then to the headline charging rate yet it might only briefly touch that 175Kw level of charge before dropping off this is exactly what just bit VAG in the ass.  They switched battery supplier so now the battery charges at a peak 145kW but stays there much longer so charges in the same time as the 175kW charging battery that just touches that rate for moments and at the right temperature.

Until we get away from this numerological insanity this will keep happening.  As far as raw performance goes you won’t get any complaints from me now i’m old and don’t have to worry about insurance premiums LOL

The biggest thing with powerful EVs is why not?  Put a bigger engine in an ICE vehicle and you increase weight, heat generation, trouble fitting it all in etc.  Make a more poweful motor adds practically nothing to the car exept a small weight increase, electric motors are so efficient that it’s easy to make a powerful compact motor that gives you a sales edge

The reason Tesla ain’t available in the scheme is because of the following

Tesla inform you that you car is due and you have to pay for it, if you don’t it can’t then it’s offered to another customer with the same spec and you have another ordered

Motability take upto 3mths to pay for their cars to a dealership so Tesla’s business model doesn’t work for Motability.

I’ve just had an email from the omodo instagram page saying that it’s not coming onto the scheme. It was only last week the same page we’re saying it’s coming to motability soon
