Touch up paint job

      Hi,

I have a Hyundai on the motability scheme and recently had a few paint chips that were bothering me, so got a basic touch up done as I couldn’t afford a big job. It means you can still see where the paint has been touched up and I’m just wondering whether this will pass inspection (it’s not due to go back until 2027 but worrying already!) or if I should get it properly fixed? I’m really anxious as I’ve never had a car on the scheme before so I appreciate any help.

Stone chips etc fall under fair wear and tear, so nothing to worry about.

What ever you do, do not attempt to touch up the stone chips, Mobility will not be happy, if you need verification talk to Mobility, it is part of wear and tear.

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

You’d be surprised what Motability accept as fair wear and tear. I’d just leave it. Post a picture if you can and we’ll all chip in with our own experience.

@Oscarmax, what do you mean Motability won’t be happy!? He’s not contemplating spraying the whole car a different colour!!! And I’m sure Motability don’t need to be contacted to get their permission just to touch up a few unsightly stone chips!

It is really up to you if you chose to go ahead, it is Mobility’s vehicle it always pays to ask.

I did ask motability and they said they recommend getting work done through insurance claim but that it was up to me if I wanted to get it fixed outside of this.

ok, the professionals don’t use a brush, they use the fine tip of a piece of rolled up newspaper, I have tried it several years ago it work fine, if it metallic don’t forget the lacquer coat otherwise the repair will be flat.
