Thank you both for your responses.
Like you, I sat in the V2 and was very impressed by the interior. I was actually there to look at the Terramar and, whilst it’s equally nice, my partner who does most of the driving liked the Tavascan better and best to keep her happy! It’s funny how different dealerships treat people. I was treated excellently by Charles Hurdt Cupra. The branch manager greeted me, apologised the Motability expert wasn’t there (I hadn’t booked) gave coffee/water , chatted away, showed both cars and arranged a call back in July to test drive. I was as well treated as when I was a private buyer.
Thank you for the response.
I had heard something about the response of the brakes so it’s something to look out for when we organise the test drive. With regards to the brakes and the charging tech, I have never driven or examined an EV so won’t have comparisons.
Nice to see there are discounts on the car. I still have 2 quarters until mid October to see how prices go, hopefully down, but the problem I have is there are only 2 dealers in Northern Ireland so not much flexibility. However, if discounts are near the £2k mark, that would cover an EasyJet day trip to order and a ferry crossing to collect!I have an app that gives me access to all the newspapers online so it’s been interesting following the story.
Another article in today’s Telegraph about fraud. It announces that ‘thousands of people ‘have been thrown of the scheme as Motability cracks down on fraud and as many as 15 are thrown off a day. Later on it tells us that 5300 people were thrown off the scheme and further down a graph shows over 800k members. Sounds awful and whilst we all would applaud genuine fraudsters thrown off the scheme, anyone with simple mathematical skills will see that it accounts for about 0.5% fraud rate. Every scheme known to man is defrauded in some way but 0.5% is low by any standard.Unfortunately Social media is an echo chamber which projects the image that what is said online is the opinions of everyday people. I echo the sentiments of others and I believe that most people don’t even associate a car displaying a blue badge with it being Motability. Where I live, two thirds of cars displaying aren’t available on the scheme!
Carry on driving and don’t let others put you off.I would agree with Motability viewpoint. The son is not living at home. Whilst you can argue that having the car so the parents can take him out or visit him / take him supplies is for his benefit, there is a greater argument that it is for the benefit of the parents as it makes it easier and cheaper for them. As understandable as this is, it’s arguably not what Motability is for.
We come under a lot of unfair attacks on social media and people could argue this is no different to anybody who has a granny in a nursing home and has to use their own resources to visit them.February 24, 2025 at 9:50 am in reply to: MG HS Trophy, Mazda CX5, CX30 or Vauxhall Grandland? #298236I am on my second CX5 and love it. It has a solid premium feel, minimal hard plastic , only low down out of touch. I’m a big build tall person and never feel cramped and the seats are very comfortable. It has all the features you want or need for day to day enjoyable driving. The current car is my second and neither have had even a minor fault.
I don’t know the mpg because, tbh, I don’t obsess about it.All I can say is it doesn’t seem bad based on 45 years of car ownership.
For what you get in comparison to others and the good AP , it a great car. Come October, the way things stand, I will either try to extend it or probably end up with my 3rd as no other car appeals with size/spec/ap.Why would I go lease privately I mean this is the whole point of mobility to provide to the disabled… private leasing or pcp is nothing to do with this, this is a charity at the end of the day and charging that amount to a disabled person is just ridiculous
This is the kind of statement that fuels resentment on forums such as the recent one on YouTube
Motability is here to provide people with disabilities care free driving. It requires no credit checking or high interest loans. On a like for like comparison there is no cheaper method of leasing a car that provides a return on your investment. A PCP deal on the 9k car will require much higher payments without the other list of benefits.
Prices have gone up but they have everywhere. I was helping my daughter find a car last week as she had just returned after living abroad. I was amazed by the increase in costs since I bought a car 5 years ago especially the increase in insurance.
As others have said, there are plenty of cars to fit everyone’s budget. We may want better but that’s life.I am in total agreement with Glos Guy. It is ridiculous to suggest that such a rigid interpretation of the rules be applied.
Prior to Covid, my partner lived and worked about 60 miles away so I leased her a car on PCP a few months before lockdown. During lockdown I suffered a major downturn in health leaving me unable to, amongst other things, drive. My partner moved in permanently. Now we had 2 cars and one driver. I couldn’t sell private car as too early and negative equity so I rang and spoke to Motability. They were very helpful and arranged termination of my car. 18 months later with equity in car, I spoke with Motability and they confirmed that I could rejoin and that my partner had full rights to use the car as it were our own. Logically, wherever she goes for whatever reason, she needs to be able to get back to me asap if needed.
I traded my private car against the deposit for my new MotabilityThat is the one concern I have. It’s the first EV I’ve looked at and thought it’s looks good but I fear practicalities mean a saloon will lose to an SUV.
Edit on my earlier post.
I have just checked the site and followed the link and it shows a different icon for RAC. I down loaded at the start of things so there may have been an error on the app and I had the wrong one. Can anyone confirm they have used the app please.
Has anyone tried that RAC app? I downloaded it when it came out and never need to use it until last Friday. I suffered a double puncture, fortunately near home, so pressed the app and was immediately called back. However, they said this was for motorised scooter and gave me a telephone number.
I called them and as it was about 10pm, they arranged for a mobile tyre fitter to come out next day and he arrived at my house 9am, drove me to my car and I was sorted and home before 10.am.I had virtually the same thing with my current car. I had come of the scheme for a couple of years and was coming back on using my own car as a trade in. Collection day came and the car was sitting their, right colour, right spec so we did paperwork on mine and I entered pin and got in car only to find it was a manual!
Dealer checked and found error on his part so he immediately checked stock and found one arriving in 3 months but different colour. He phoned Motability and they sorted things out and he loaned me a new demo car until the new one arrived
All worked out but the payment from my Pip was dated from that day so my next payment was short. However, it was returned along with the full payment on month 2. Good side bonus was I got 3 months free car use.
It should be resolved as long as your dealer is helpful. When I lived in London I had a great many problems with Wardens and fought when I felt I was in the right.
The first thing you have to understand is that a council will always reject an appeal at first level unless the evidence is incontrovertible. However, you have the right to appeal to higher levels within the council and, if this fails, appeal to an Independent Adjudicator This is free and can be done online. The photograph shows a small section of the windscreen proving that the ticket was issued. The Warden should have stepped away and photographed your entire front window. Your badge could be above your steering wheel.
Basically, the Adjudicator will decide if he believes you were issued a ticket correctly. You can prove you have a badge and would be expected to use it and the fact that they can only provide a photo showing part of your windscreen rather than the whole of it which they should do, then it suggests that they are being economical with the truth and it should be cancelled.
I have had a similar case and won. There are people whose sole job is coming up with policies for discussion on how to change every aspect of how the country is run.
Some of these policies end up with a bit of them taken and fine tuned and others are radical and disappear under weight of reality.
This is one such policy suggestion. If examined, what vouchers could they give. Each person on here has their own problems and none of us face the exact same situations or have the exact same requirements. Petrol vouchers? How would that work with those of us doing 3k a year or 20k a year? The admin required to personalise everyone’s requirements would be horrendous and a one size fits all would open up a can of worms legally
Highly doubt it is going to happen.Personally I wouldn’t video as it is a distraction from the actual demonstration when you should be absorbing it and asking clarification as you go on.
I have found that when I am unsure of anything with a new car, there will be a video clip on You Tube that will show a explanation for any specific action on your car be it setting the seat memory or understanding the dashboard layout.Enjoy that great feeling of collecting a brand new car in the moment, not through the lens of a camera.
Repeat post but equally no harm in reminding everyone about the survey (its not a simple tick box and is a hard one to complete)
I would agree with Swwchris. I took the survey and it’s easy and not very long to do.
Whilst it is a green paper of a likely out going government , it will still be on record. Politicians of any persuasion are untrustworthy and a dusty file can always be grabbed and wiped down so it’s better taking 10 minutes to record your opinion.
It’s like voting, if you don’t take part, you can’t complain about the result. So you would think that car salespeople would treat Motability customers with more respect ?
Unfortunately whilst we may be the biggest Manufacturer customer, we are the least profitable to the dealer as they get a set bonus per car which is lower a than private sale and I believe that a sale does not count towards targets.
We are reliant on building a relationship with the dealer and the Motability name behind us.
If you use Waze app on your CarPlay, it has a audio and visual speed cam warning and as an interactive app, it posts mobile speed cams, delays and accidents in real time updated by tens of thousands of users.
I was driving through Regents Park once and an alert for mobile speed cam came up and 100 yards away and around a corner, a Policeman was standing with a radar gun.The dealer is misleading you. I had it done with my Mazda and, like Jojoe, the dealer did it whilst we were on the phone. The order between dealer and Motability is totally separate to the internal purchase order from dealer to manufacturer.
I would be more concerned that 4 months after order you still haven’t had a build date!
I’ve phoned up to get the new ap on the e3008 he said they do it automatically which doesn’t sound right but he said if I add the pack it will be a new order? Is that others experience. The order was placed on the 8th of February and I really don’t want to go to the back of the queue. I didn’t get speaking to the girl I ordered of as it was someone else as she was busy. Just so that I have some info when she phones me back.
I think you have two separate questions here.
Regarding adding extras onto your car, my understanding of dealer order process is that when you confirm your order, if it’s a new build the dealer gets a build slot and locks in the order. From that point it can’t be changed and if you want different spec, they have to release that build and start a new one from the next available slot. This has been my experience buying privately in the past from Jaguar and Audi.
With the AP, this is a process between dealer and Motability. The dealer cancels the Motability order and places a new one and this doesn’t effect the dealer to build order. Mazda did that for me when the order I placed in Q4 dropped in AP in Q1. I rang my guy and he did it as we spoke on the phone but I wouldn’t rely on a dealer doing it automatically.Having lost a key in the past that cost a fortune, I now subscribe to a policy called Keyfob. Costs £4 a month and they provide a fob you attach to the keys so you can track it and ping it if you misplace them. They also offer £100 reward to anyone who locates your keys. If you lose the keys, they recover you and your car and pay for your new key and any work needed done to your car locks.
nice to have the security and peace of mind.March 13, 2024 at 4:29 pm in reply to: Police ram runaway electric car after brakes fail on M62 #268348Interesting follow up to this news. I’ve just read that a man has been arrested in connection with this incident and being questioned under suspicion of dangerous driving and causing a public nuisance.
Seems there is more to this story than first appears.
I would prefer uf they 8bsured any options, as any options are not covered with the insurance
You might be right about the insurance as in the case of the car being written off the replacement would not come with the options unless you pay for them again, its a risk we have to take I’m afraid. I know under the totalitarianism governments we have in the west today we have little choices to live our own lives the way we want and glad at least were still allowed to make up our own minds as to risk buying options. That said the options would be covered by the manufactures guarantee along with the rest of the car so shouldn’t be a problem if they need repairing during the lease time.
When I joined Motability, I found that the insurance covers the car not, like private car insurance, you the driver as well. This concerned me because, as well as not covering any extras, I had concerns about personal coverage including legal.
I did some research and I found myself insurance that is designed for people like us and any fleet drivers. The policy has one caveat that you must not be responsible for the accident but if you are the innocent party or if your vehicle is stolen, they will cover all out of pocket expenses ie extras on your car you paid for, arrange a suitable hire car, provide 24 hr legal advice and act for you in court if you have more than 50/50 chance of success.
There are ways round most things if you look.I appreciate you may be holding out for March registration but the salesman may not be talking bs.
When I lived in England, I bought many a car month before registration as dealers were offering better discounts because so many people were holding on a few weeks to get the new registration. I preferred the discount as I have a private registration I put on every car so it was irrelevant! If you suddenly were offered a car two months early it could be that it is not the car you were waiting on but another that has become free and the dealer is scrambling around to get it registered. If you don’t take it then he might discount it to someone else.
When I went to collect my Mazda CX5, checked it in the delivery area, right colour and model so entered the pin. The dealer went to bring the car round front and when he got out, had a pained look. Turned out it was a manual rather than automatic. He checked the paperwork and found he had incorrectly ticked internal order form.
Quick call to Motobility reversed the acceptance, he found the right car on the system available in 6 weeks so ordered that. As I was rendering the scheme and trading my own car in, we went ahead with that and he provided a brand new Mazda 3, just about to join their demo fleet, and I kept it until the new car arrived.
